  • Nissan Forklift came in from outside service with a No crank no start problem. Tech has installed a new battery and a new starter with no success. We took the opportunity in the shop to use it for training.

I’ve done everything you said, I was about to scrap my car as I decided to tap the second new starter motor, a few blows with a rubber hammer and it sounded rough at first, then ran perfectly, deliberately stalled the car and restarted a few times, all’s well now. Thanks for the tips, I bought 2 batteries and two starter motors but finally got there in the end.

You are the man on how technical you are there's no doubt about that because I've seen what you do! BUT how are these guys mechanics lol. That's the most basic diagnostic ever for a no start. Hahaha. Replaced the battery and the starter to end up with a seized engine? Lol.

That is why I'm using this case to train our new mechanics, so hopefully we don't get these anymore. lol.

This video reminds of a no start diag a tech I used to work with did. He replaced the battery and starter and still didn't start. Problem was a broken connecting rod that was sticking out of a hole in the side of the engine block.

So what he’s saying it seems like without being condescending about it is, when you’re troubleshooting, there’s a certain diagnostic tree that you take so that you’re not wasting time replacing parts for new ones?

I’m familiar with working on electric drive utility trucks like vantages and electric UTVs . I was wondering where I could find resources to learn more on model specifics like Hystra

My issue was keyswitch to starter. Thing was ready for salvage. "Trash". Routed keyswitch to starter and got the customer going. They don't want to replace a lift so at least make the lift work...

I would think diesels take more torque to turn because they're higher compression engines compared to gasoline/petrol engines

  • @turftech20

Slight lack of experience I think there it’s a live and learn situation there if you’ve not experienced something before then how are you supposed to know so they’ve learnt the hard way of just throwing parts at it doesn’t always solve the mystery always ask the machine why and never assume
Personally I think everyone would have tried the battery but just jump start the engine if it still don’t turn over it’s not battery then I’d have done what you did check for the amps to the motor and then see if it turns over manually job done 30 minute job to diagnose maybe 🤔
Great video might show it to my apprentice give him the experience

You probably already fixed it but my guess is that is was either the ignition switch, neutral safety switch, starter relay, or high resistance due to corrosion in the cables going to the starter or starter ground. Do voltage drop tests from battery positive to all cables going to starter and from battery negative post to starter housing.

You have to take into consideration who his primary audience is. It's his junior techs not RUclips. You can tell that they're having a hard time grasping the concept when they think high electrical resistance will cause a higher amp draw. The techs need reinforcement of basic electrical principles and the best way is repetitive verbal, written, or practical hands on training.
