I read the federal sentencing guidelines for this crime. The minimum sentence is 5 years. Of course, we have no way of knowing what the judge will decide. Could be 10, 15, 20… it’s anyone’s guess. It won’t be 40.

If I read it right, it's a maximum of 20 years per charge and a fine of up to 250,000 per each account. Josh Duggar is looking at a half a million dollar fine and if sentenced to the max up to 40 years if serving consecutive not concurrent. Either way if he's to serve 20 years in prison, not only will he have to register has a sex offender but if any of his kids are minors he can't live anywhere near them ever. Needless to say given the circumstances, Josh Duggar is going away for a LONG time. And we won't have to worry about him doing that to children or women again.

The lesser charge was stayed on conviction. You can't be sentenced twice for the same crime so in these scenarios, once they have the conviction they drop the lesser one and sentence for the greater.

I can’t help but wonder if he might get off on appeal based on his juvenile molestations being allowed to be heard by the jury. While he did admit to them he was never charged . Is it possible a new judge could say that that prejudiced the jury and therefore he gets a new trial or worse gets out of prison all together?
I’m sure he’ll probably appeal on those grounds but I don’t think it will work. The federal rules of evidence allows prior bad acts to be used to show a defendant’s motive to commit a certain crime which is exactly how the prosecution used the molestation testimony. Hopefully this trial showed Josh’s family that he’s a liar and they won’t provide any further assistance with this case. Josh can’t afford to appeal this case on his own so hopefully Jim Bob’s will refuse to cover the attorney’s fees for an appeal.

Because of the conviction, the court can now order that their children be evaluated and interviewed by child protection, without Anna or Josh's consent or presence. If it's found they were victims, Anna could risk losing custody and face charges of her own if she knew about it and did nothing.

The lesser charge was stayed on conviction. You can't be sentenced twice for the same crime so in these scenarios, once they have the conviction they drop the lesser one and sentence for the greater.

I can’t help but wonder if he might get off on appeal based on his juvenile molestations being allowed to be heard by the jury. While he did admit to them he was never charged . Is it possible a new judge could say that that prejudiced the jury and therefore he gets a new trial or worse gets out of prison all together?

I’m sure he’ll probably appeal on those grounds but I don’t think it will work. The federal rules of evidence allows prior bad acts to be used to show a defendant’s motive to commit a certain crime which is exactly how the prosecution used the molestation testimony. Hopefully this trial showed Josh’s family that he’s a liar and they won’t provide any further assistance with this case. Josh can’t afford to appeal this case on his own so hopefully Jim Bob’s will refuse to cover the attorney’s fees for an appeal.
