As a plumber for 20+ years at this point, I'd like to advize TYM in my opinion. TO NEVER TOUCH A PIPE AGAIN! That is all.
Absolutely don’t touch someone else’s pipe.
@@tradesman63 For years I made a living touching other people's pipes and I'm not ashamed to admit it.
Don’t touch it. Just lay the pipe.
The skill level here mirrors the ability of that Bloke on your wall. Ed Bundy - stick to selling Shoes Yankee.
Unless it’s a muzzle
Ah. the biggest money maker for home repair professionals - fixing the big problems caused by homeowners trying to fix little problems.
I’m a firm believer in plumbers and electricians.
We all know it wasn’t the pipes nor the water. It was werewolves. Those creatures love destroying floors, pipes, doors, etc. Just tell the truth already!
Also the zombies 😂
30 yr carpenter.
It's amazing what one simple plumbing issue can turn into!
Good luck sir!🫡
It sure is
22 year licensed semi-retired HVAC tech and full time DoD contract factory maintenance man here. Yeah, I know we used to get that a lot. "Could you do this simple plumbing job" from the homeowner. There's no such thing as a "simple" plumbing job if anything or everything goes wrong. I'm trained and highly skilled/qualified to silver braze and cold solder/sweat copper pipe. Even a slight drip because the (gate valve)...usually never (ball valve) won't turn completely off creates a potential problem. Never mind an old cruddy gate valve that the packing gland blows out as soon as you rotate it. That is if they even have a shutoff at all. I've had to shutdown and depressurize wells and go out to the curb by the street to turn off the main more than I care to admit as well. These days they have SharkBite fittings, but back in my day when I started and up until maybe 8 or 10 years ago or so they didn't. I remember when they first came out they were stupid expensive and my boss wouldn't let us use one while changing out a water heater or working on a boiler unless we absolutely had to. That was back when one fitting was like $40 - $50 each. Today in 2024 you can go to any Lowe's, Menards or Home Depot and buy Sharkbite fitting for $5 to $15 each and it spoils everybody doing so. Bottom line you can get into BIG trouble with HVAC or plumbing really quickly as a homeowner trying to do the work yourself with no professional training and without the proper tools. What you as the homeowner don't usually see is us out at our trucks swearing up a storm and reaching for a cigarette as we are very POed and trying to overcome this evolution or obstacle. Nothing is ever easy as it seems. The first DIY homeowner you hear who has a office job by day and runs their mouth on the internet in the evenings and on the weekends RUN FAR AWAY from them and don't look back twice! They couldn't begin to know what they are doing or talking about. I've been having one of "those weeks" the last two weeks here in fact. I'm thinking of checking to see if anybody broke a mirror in one of the bathrooms or something. Should have seen the mess I had yesterday with a Trane 10 ton package unit and also our parking lot security lights.
@JohnDoeEagle1 the boss bought a hotel. I was pushed to be the maintenance man. I wish I had x-ray vision when we first looked at it. You just never know how bad all the different trades were until you turn the lights and water on. In this case I guess the plumbers were the lowest bid! I can't tell you how many walls and ceilings I've had to open up and repair because of bad solder joints, rot from ferrous to copper, and even shark bite connections! The best one is every fiberglass shower was installed poorly, about once ever other month, a downstairs bathroom light fixture fills up with water! That equals two rooms down until the drain gets fixed, sheetrock repaired, texture sprayed, and paint applied. About one week! I've learned a lot working in that building!
Wow, there's always a silver lining, you found a potential health issue with that hidden mold. Good luck on your repairs, you'll have it done in no time.
You have a large and beautiful home when it's together, I'm so jealous
House repairs suck. I've luved in a crappy house where the floors in one room had to be replaced 6 times in five years. And still needed to be replaced/repaired when we left. Thank goodness we rented. I hope you're able to get everything replaced and repaired quickly and done properly.
oh man ! im sorry to see your house got messed up, it looks like a beautiful place, im glad you are okay and i hope you can get your home fixed back up soon, hang in there brother ! we look forward to seeing your vids again soon as you can.
Should start an new u tube channel-- yankee’s home improvement
For somebody like me who spent 4 years of his life redoing the interior of a messed up 100 year old house " And you would not believe what I uncovered"! I feel your PAIN!
The only man I heard who empties out the well yet still manages to flood the kitchen. Well done sir, I salute you.
I feel for you, tons of work, Good luck my friend. Hope to see you back online
Holy shit, that's bad! I hope everything works out OK, and we see more videos from you soon!
Man, I bet you invented new curse words through all of that
Sorry to hear that. Hope everything gets squared away smoothly😺
Hope you get everything fixed up and back to normal. May it be a quick return for ya. I been watching you for over 10 years. Truly enjoy your channel and your approach.
I Noticed.
dang looks like you have a nice place there Yank.
Sorry for all your bad luck. I have several acres and water pipes running all different directions... So I worry about pipes breaking and well pumps running for days.
I had the water well guys install a tiny led indicator light on the pressure switch that comes on when the pump is running. The well house is 130' away, but I can look out the window and see the led to tell if the pump is running.
Wow! My issues suddenly seem small. Take care Yank, we ain going nowhere. I noticed Al Bundy near the end of your video.
Thanks fot reminding me why I call professionals instead of trying to do projects myself.
Hope you recover quickly. Never do plumbing again. FYI for a future project. You can set up a pressure leak valve system that will shut the supply pipe off if it detects leaks.
I'm truly sorry that you are dealing with so much stuff. I hope all your issues are resolved and that you are able go back to being back in the studio and doing videos again.
Sorry about your bad luck with the repairs. When it rains, it pours at least around my place. Good luck going forward
WOW! Hope everything goes OKAY!
Yankee in all seriousness you have a beautiful home…. Tend to what you need to. We’ll be here when you are 💪glad you are getting it all fixed
Sorry to hear that you're going through all of that stuff. You sound a little perturbed, but not flustered. And that's a good thing. It'll come together in due time. Looking forward to when you return to releasing videos.
Very sorry for your troubles Sir! Hope all goes well from here on out!
So far Yankee,as far as I can gauge it, you need to write down everything you do as you do it,so you can check off what needs to be undone. I can't see you remembering where you left the list though !
You got this, Yankee.
Take care of family first.
We will be here when you’re ready to restart.
Really nice house Yankee, gotta show us your collectibles.
YM: Best wishes for an easier road ahead. Your home looks beautiful. What a pain to deal with all of that at one time. You will put this headache behind you soon. Sorry that you’re going through such a rough spot. I look forward to seeing some videos soon, but take care of your family and home first! Good luck with everything.
I had a lot of damage to my house after hurricane Laura, but yours is a lot worse than mine was. I feel sorry for you. Hope you can get things up and running soon. We miss you.
Wow! I thought that kind of sh** only happened to me
I feel you. I replaced a kitchen faucet last weekend. Easy right? Well it was leaking. For a long time. I was going to fix it, but I had motor neuropathy I did not know about so I couldn't. Then once I could I just put it off. For about another year. As a result all the shit under the sink was rusted pretty bad. So of course nothing just unscrewed like it was supposed to. I ended up using a damn reciprocating saw with a demolition blade to just cut the damn faucet off. What was left still would not fall down. So I had to drill holes and when that did not work more sawing. Eventually I got all the shit removed and then the new stuff went in rather easily. But I officially HATE home plumbing jobs THE MOST. Replacing the backyard hose bib? Bigger pain in the ass than it should have been. Replacing the water cut off? WAY bigger pain in the ass than it should have been. The sink faucet? I had to use a demolition saw. Give me electrical projects any day, worst that can happen is a little zap. Or a short that keeps tripping a breaker. And yea maybe a fire or you get electrocuted and cease to exist, but at least it isn't plumbing!
Damn..... I thought my home repair stories were bad. After hearing yours, I don't think I will ever complain again.
What a nightmare! We had to replace our first floor wood floor due to a leak. Wouldn't wish it on anyone. I had a contractor do everthing.
hopefully all this gets resolved soon
Good luck Yankee see you when you get back.
You have a good looking house, got to be a pain in the ass getting it back together.
You have discovered the recursive first instruction line for anything you want to do. It starts with, "Wait, before you do that..."
Holy crap, sounds like one of my weeks! Gotta keep smiling.
Happens to everyone! When it rains it pours!
In a way was a good thing. You found the black mould. That shit is severely hazardous.
Well shit, that's a lot of crap to deal with. Hopefully it gets fixed quickly and well
Oh my god, it just got worse and worse! I’m so sorry man. I hope insurance is footing the bill for all this.
I live in beautiful Wisconsin,... One rule of home buying that I will not compromise on, " never buy a home without a basement." #2, always use a professional, it's expensive at first, but as you now know Yankee, you won't ruin your entire home trying to fix one damn pipe.
Wow, really sorry for all this. Been there done that. But the other comments are true. Probably the best policy would be to stick with gun reviews and content and hire professionals for everything else. Good luck and hope you have a robust bank account.
I didn’t realize you stopped… I didn’t know you were still making them
It’s great that you’re getting rid of the black mold before it could make your family and pets sick.
God bless man, sorry that happened to you. Water damage is one of the scariest things, since it can happen even if you go on vacation.
I wish redundant drains and failsafes, especially for those water tubes hidden behind fridges for the water dispenser "feature", causes.
Wishing you luck with all the work!
Damn! So sorry, Yankee. I feel 😢 for you and the family.
Yankee, some times everything is going fine in our lives and, at a sudden, something or, as in you case, a number of bad things happen. Being a 62 YO guy, my advice to you is to deal with all these troubles with a calm and positive mind. Everything will be ok. You’ll get over this situation. God Bless.
Sorry about your recent problems. I hope it all works out for the best. We'll be here when you're ready!
Well, you just made a video. Maybe not in the normal topic, but it's a video non-the-less. Good luck on getting everything back to normal. I had a refrigerator waterline leak a few years back and boy, what a nightmare.
Dear lord. Prayers to you and the family during the renovation
Sincerely wishing you good luck, love ypur optimism, atb
Yankee, everybody needs a break ! (We had the same deal, Christmas '22. (8°)
Your SD40 video shows you dancing like "raygun" before she was even a thing! 😂😂
Hope everything works out
“We left the windows open during a snowstorm”
WTH???
Who has their windows open when it’s cold enough to snow, and who leaves them open during the snowstorm?
Yankee, U R 1 totally weird dude!
Thank you, for all what you still do for the rest of us......
When it rains, it pours; when it snows , it's a blizzard! Then Murphy's Law takes over!
Damn Yankee I’m sorry. Then then repaint the cabinets talk about a kick in the ass
I hope you are going to have a cozy place again before winter comes.
well thats not good sir hope it all works out pretty quick for you
Yankee is the modern-day Tim Allen from the sitcom Home Improvement. My money says your flooring problems will get worse in the future. If the plywood got wet, hopefully it dries correctly and has the appropriate moisture barrier.
The decking got replaced if it got wet. Now heat pump went out.
What an ordeal….! One thing after another… ugh! Hang in there Yankee… I’ll be thinking of you. Work your way through the important stuff, we’ll be here when you get back. 😊👍🏼
Sorry, Man...
I hadn't really even Noticed.
A Lot of the channels I regularly watch, Not exclusively gun channels, either, haven't been showing up on my feed.
What HAS been showing up is Mostly Politics and My Grandson's Favorite Monster movies...
Love the house man seems like a relaxation heaven!
Married with Children fan here too!
This is like watching This Old House but with ADHD.
Sorry to hear all that
I'm so sorry. Take your time and do things right.
My dad use to f••k stuff up on purpose so my mom wouldn’t ask him to do anything . You’re a real pro.
This is why i despise DIY projects. Best wishes for success in getting your home back to normal again soon.
I thought I was having a bad day. I'd be finishing off that bottle of Knob Creek if it was me. ( that IS alcohol ?? )
The important is that the family is ok, after zombie's attacked, and gun are safe also.
I didn't notice. You do have a beautiful home. You do seem like the kind of guy that should hire a professional to do home improvements.
When it rains it pours. Good luck with your work.
Jesus Christ I got an ulcer just watching all that. Back here in Pittsburgh all these old houses the copper pipes just spring leagues without notice. It's so prevalent that everyone around here knows how to fix them with some device called a shark bite. I have no idea what that is because I sat behind a desk working on telephone systems for 40 years. Nothing worse on a home repairs especially when it's dealing with water! Hang in there YM!
We bought an old Amish House and retrofitted it. Nice place really. Had a subcontractor, hired an Amish crew to do most of the work, that did the electrical and complained about his bid because everything was so well built, 90 year old house, it was going to take forever to finish the job. Then the trouble started... He and his "county inspector" friend almost went to jail.
Never sign their contract. Pay a lawyer a few bucks to get what you want in paper.
I just figured you stopped videos once I finally joined Patreon
Ah yes, the joys of home ownership. I can relate to that. Keep your chin up, you have a bunch of your plate.👍
I dig seeing the 8nside of where you live… it’s a nice place!
6:06 Not ruling it out... 😂
You are living a homeowner’s nightmare. I hope everything works out for you 👍
When it rain it pours. Good luck to ya.
Looks like a “Holmes on Homes” horror story episode. Maybe Mike will drop by and help.
Sometimes a DYI project can be more expensive than we think it will be!!
Just saying when we don't do it for a living, we end up paying someone who does.
But apart from all that everything is just fine and dandy, good luck with your repairs.
sorry to hear all that....looks like if you did not have bad luck you would not have any luck at all, i hope you had some sort of insurance to cover most of that...good luck
Good luck buddy!
Well that escalated quickly.
I was having a real crap day then I watched this, thanks Yank, I have NO problems at all
I bet your better ¾ was very happy with your handy work. Can't you explain the situation without using the word cluster?
I don't always agre with you,,, but I watch all your post . Hope everything works out for you. Looking forward for more post
Missed your videos, but you got a lot going on.
At the TYM 1 use pex pipe it swells and shrinks does not break 2 run your pipes inside the house with only 1 line coming in mine run up along the?wall and up across the roof with a real nice wood cover encasing concealing it but with pipes ran inside they don't freeze amish built my house and they know what they are doing 🤷
Tell the wife thank god it wasn’t the GUN ROOM! 😂🤣 j/k I had my downstairs flood one time it’s suck I feel your pain brother it will get better 👍🇺🇸
Oh man! What u need is unlimited funds so u can just have your staff take care of everything while u take a vacation in Tahiti.
