Interesting fact: Raul Julia did this film while dying of stomach cancer. He did the role for his kids because they loved the franchise and he wanted to star in a film that they would enjoy.
How is that fun
he did an incredible job
“The franchise” lol his kids liked street fighter 2 and nothing else from the franchise like everyone else. What a legend though can’t imagine having a parent play one of your favorite characters.
As *everyone* who had an internet connection in the last 10-20 years knows by now.
"OF COURSE".
The beginning of a classic...
OF COURSE
OF COURSE
OFF COURSE
+CommanderM117 Of Course Don't you know anything about Science?
His plan is to-you guessed it-take over the world.
I've always wondered where this quote was from. Nice to finally put it at ease.
But this line kick ass: "For you, the day Bison graced your village was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday".
"Quick Change The Channel!!!"
Raul Julia delivered it so perfectly too :)
SAVAGE!!!!
To be fair, Major Bison is the best part of Street Fighter.
"What's wrong Colonal? You came here to fight a madman, but you found A GOD?!"
He carried this movie
I'm nostalgic for old Nostalgia Critic.
Eric Stevenson It's like a completely different show now. It blows.
You are not alone :(
burmiester1 this vid was before youtube was utterly destroyed
me too
The skull drinking
For us it was one of the best reviews, for Doug it was Tuesday.
Actually September 17th 2008 was a Wednesday :)
I wonder if this has been highlighted so much as one of the best 🔥/quotes in a movie that Doug figured he had nothing more to add to it (and thus never even addresses it in the review)
@@danielanderson8322 No the meme came out a lot later
In original Street Fighter II for SNES Bison is the ass hole that spams the Psycho Crusher(superman-lunge) over and over again. The movie is very accurate about this in the final battle.
scot shabalam You mean Arcade. SNES is a port
oh dear.
Alpha 3 Bison spamming that super move
That’s not a psycho crusher in the movie. That’s Bison trying to kiss Guile but Guile keeps dodging. 🤪
@@TZER0 and bison isn't good with rejection
I must admit that this one is my guilty pleasure movie. Maybe because, for years, it was always on tv around here.
Thiago Leão OF COURSE
Masterball778 LOLOLOLOLOLOL
Where are you from?
Strider Reborn Brazil
Mario Bros is another guilty pleasure I have
"You can go home" sketch is brilliant. Very good performance from Critic
Street Fighter - one of the greatest comedies of all time
Mortal Kombat - one of the few acceptable video game movies
and Mario Bros is a a misunderstood masterpiece.
Annihilation was one of those things that seemed like a good idea at the time.
no hassle 🤦🏼♂️
Mortal Kombat was horrible.
And the Sonic movie was a step in the right direction. Not amazing, but better than the Assassin’s Creed movie at least.
1:53 a staple NC reference makes its first appearance
TheLeastExpected23 OF COURSE!
Where was the scene from anyway?
guile? alive?
Nice Jenny Wakeman avatar
O F C O U R S E !
6:25 If I remember the movie correctly, there is like a 1 second scene where some chemicals fall on him, and we are supposed to understand that those chemicals had that effect on him.
"Of course!" That joke never gets old
Of course.
of course
Naturally
Of course it won't.
It got old after 5 seconds
"Quick! Change the channel!"
LOOOOL
In light of recent events, it's even funnier.
@@ChipIzumi I find the comment incredibly ironic.
HOLD IT!!!!!!! is that agent may from S.H.I.E.L.D. playing chun-li?
It should've been Gong Li.
No, that is legendary actress Ming-Na Wen who has been in a lot of great things over her long acting career.....which yes, includes agents of shield
Gio A OF COURSE
epoch621 ok, movie/tvshow genius, what else has she shown up in?
Gio A well they both are badasses soo yes
M.Bison: Of Course!!!
I kind of like this older style of reviews.
Miss it
“In a cast full of young newcomers and civilised character actors, Jean-Claude Van Damme stood out as the archetypal movie star, with an ego to match. As he later admitted, he also came into Street Fighter with a major cocaine habit. At one stage in the 1990s, he was hoovering 10g a day; and $10,000 a week.”
Steven de Souza - Director.
Fun Fact, Jean-Claude Van Damme, the actor for Guile in the Street Fighter movie, was actually the inspiration for Johnny Cage in the Mortal Kombat games. When making the 1995 MK movie, Ed Boon wanted Jean to be Johnny, but scheduling conflict prevented that from happening. Nearly 30 years after both movies, they finally got Jean in the upcoming Mortal Kombat 1 game as a DLC skin for Johnny.
Megatron rex: yes
The way this version of the NC talks makes me feel as if I don't know whether he's being confident in what he's saying or he's talking like that in order to give off the impression that he knows what he's saying.
I think this version of NC is trying to deepen his voice so he doesn't sound like well... (Looks at the giving tree review)
electricmastro Take note of the Originally aried Date, it was 7 years ago, the early days of NC. He hadn't gotten the style down yet.
MasterIckolas
What does that have to do with anything? I was just making note of it.
ah maybe but has it arrived?
MasterIckolas Hell the first one was basically a Chester the Bum review but in NC clothes. The second episode was pretty early. By the second season he got his style, had stereo sound, 480p native, and a better mic
Did you know that Raul Julia actually did his own stunts while he was SUFFERING THROUGH A BRAIN HEMMORHAGE!!!!!! That is badass if anything were to ever be.
And also stage 4 of stomach cancer.
@@danissa2769 damn kratos got nothing on raul
The day NC graced us with this review was the most important day of our lives. But for him it was Tuesday.
Actually 17 September 2008 was Wednesday. But okay
Xehanort10 of course
The only two things that i love about the street fighter movie is Raul Julia as the Mighty Bison and the soundtrack, and it kicks ass, Ice Cube, Craig Mack, Nas, LL Cool J, Public Enemy, MC Hammer featuring Deion Sanders, The B.U.M.S, Anotha Level and the rest of the artists freaking nailed it on the Billboard top 200.
And Vega. They did nail Vega
I still prefer this to the Chun Li one.
Well duh.
Damn straight
I've never seen the Chun Li one.
@@trasegorsuch5140 All you need to know is that they cast a member of Black Eyed Peas as Vega. Yes, really.
@@pokemongirl7511 I don't know who they are but...wow.
JCVD is the only other human I know of who sounds like Tommy Wiseau.
4:28 yes zangief changing the channel will surely stop the moving truck with explosive materials on it
3:45-4:14 is my favorite part of this video. I just cannot stop laughing at the character list, especially the way it speeds up and mentions characters outside of the Street Fighter franchise!
7:03 So M. Bison becomes Magneto?
Yep
Walter white Dammit, and I thought Magneto was cool. :(
Of course!
And he did it on a Tuesday!
404 The Errorbot OF I'M NOT DOING IT!!!!
You can't make fun of the movie for the U.N peacekeepers having blue uniforms.
Don't forget, here they are called 'Allied Nations'!
my problem with this movie is. ..................WHERE IS RYU you know the MAIN CHARACTER OF THE GAMES
komickid235 234 he is in this movie
Hell, if they're gonna make Guile the main character because 'murica, they could at least give us his HAIR!
Capcom wanted to have Van Damme in the movie. Problem being: Van Damme was a popular action star at the time and in high demand, so they had to diverge a huge chunk of their budget into securing him for the part of Guile. Additionally, because of the money they spent and the starpower of Van Damme (as well as his ego) at the time, they wrote the story around his character instead of going with the main character of the games.
John Cena would have made a way better Guile hands down
@@swiftstreak98 I mean now yes. He was like 17 when this movie came out
Good heavens! That's Agent May from Agents of SHIELD! And a lot of other stuff of course.
I love how they make Van Damme 100% american in his movies despite having that french accent.
Usually he’s French in the movies, no? I saw only Lionheart and another one, was French in both
@@macrocosmique they always make him have french or canadian origins or even Cajun like in Hard Target. But he's also always entirely American in almost all of his films
Belgian Accent.
Van Damme is one of the best in my opinion 👌
oh man i remember watching this review when it first came out in 08 lol
with that being said MK and SF are 2 of my guilty pleasure movies. mostly because its my childhood, i saw them in VHS when they came out and well im a big fan of the games from back in the day as well. i feel like they're still better movies than anything being shit out these days in hollywood. except for the fact that they got jean claude to play an america and he sounds nothing like an american with his accent LOL.
i also loved raul as bison, he did this role for his kids and i love that and i dunno i just feel he did well as bison with what he was given. he really was taken too soon from us.
and why is honda hawaiian and not japanese? thats one thing that confused me as a kid.
oh i forgot: "QUICK CHANGE THE CHANNEL." best line in a movie ever
2:44 "Call it a wake up cold." "Cause I'm not dub-stride in 15 minutes." "And strut his defenses." "If Sagat runs against Bison." "Some moron scan me."
Not bad. But still not as good as misheard lyrics to "O Fortuna".
"If Sagat runs against Bison." - sounds like the US presidential campaign
“If I’m knocked upside in 15 minutes...”
I can’t understand the lyrics to Twister
So...they covered Cammy's win pose with the movie's logo huh? Of course...
6:00 Blanka isn't Guile's friend. He's supposed to be a wild man from the Brazilian jungle.
I know ts been literal years but, to spread the info, in this movie rather than having charlie nash killed they turn him into blanka. so he is correct in saying blanka is guiles friend but only in this very specific context.
@@Enderfreaksgames His name is Carlos Blanka
Late Night Person His real name is Jimmy!
I can't believe Doug missed a joke about peace-keepers... In the wrong role.
4:29 That line fits Channel Awesome perfectly right now. LOL.
Congratulations I hate you now
😂😂😂😂
In France, Jean Claude VanDamme is so cheesy ! Just see him on screen made cinephiles's day, is so passioned by acting, we don't really care if it's good or not it's good to see him ^^
I forgot just how adorable Zangief was in this movie :smirk:
7:05 I get what you're getting at here but in the game, Bison does spam the Psycho crusher in the old SFII like a few other characters-ahem (Ken, Vega, Balrog, Blanka, Ryu, Sagat, etc) . It was dumb how "Guile" beats him by just kicking him again. Lol but according to the game, you cannot overpower a super power with a basic attack lol
Whoa, I forgot "Blanka" and "Dhalsim" stayed to die. Not to quote Cypher from The Matrix but how can Dhalsim look after Blanka if they're DEAD?
the outtakes from Expendables 2 also show how confused and creeped out by JCVD his costars are.
And so, the "Of Course!" joke was born, still being watched for 15 years. Happy 15th anniversary to this running joke.
Some years ago I was reading an interview with the directors and producers and writers for this movie because they were involved in another project and somebody actually asked them why should we trust you after Street Fighter.
It was a great interview I wish I could find it they pointed out that they had a really tight script and they were only using core characters that fit in with the basic story but Capcom kept coming in behind them and demanding that they had to use all the characters because kids wanted to see their favorite fighter then half way through filming the movie turbo came out and Capcom force them to add all the turbo characters in to a film that was already written and half filmed.
Not saying the film was a masterpiece VanDam isn't that bad Raul Julia is great and some of the other casting was pretty spot on it's not too hard to notice the welded on seams and if you remove them it's a pretty generic kid-friendly action film
Big time guilty pleasure movie. The jokes still make me laugh, especially all the little background gags that only get a few frames. And Kylie Minogue.
Guilty pleasure review for a guilty pleasure movie.
Props to Doug for his perseverance
Props to Raul for his perfectly hammy denouement.
VAN DAMME is one of the best actors of action stars plus he's a very nice guy
I know this is a old video, but why does it look like it was ripped from a VHS tape?
The review itself was ripped from a tape? Lol Nah...
lol Yeah, probably
Doug in a black baseball cap is like goku in his blue gi
The grand source of the "of course!" meme. Truly it was a historical moment for the whole planet Earth.
1:52 The birth of the iconic running gag in Nostalgia Critic episodes.
I mean, I know JCVD isn't a good actor, and maybe it's just because of nostalgia... but man I love watching him on screen XD
I think JCVD is often in on the joke about his acting 😆
Me too. Still working out in search of that JCVD physique. Guy wasn't as crazy roided out as the other big action stars.
This movie had way too much hype, but the execution....*sigh*...at least Kylie Minogue is in it. And Bio-Dome. I love Kylie Minogue. 🖤🖤🖤
And so did Jean-Claude!
I found your channel during the first lockdown. Been watching multiple episodes every day since. Your show consistently make me laugh out loud and has truly brightened up my life during these hard times. Years from now when I think about summer 2020 I'll think about all these silly reviews of all these silly movies. Thank you doug.
I agree his videos have helped a lot in getting through these tough times
3:55
The leaked new fighters for Super Smash Bros Ultimate
You can go and strike down bison
But we can all go home
I every time I watch the Addams Family now and I see Raul Julia, I right away think of this part 1:53
1:53 And thus, a meme was born.
....one that aged REALLY badly!
Oh god, they dragged Ming Na into this didn't they?
Hey, she was young and good roles were scarce!
Also, Kylie Minogue as Cammy. Talk about a miscast. I mean, granted, she was still very young at the time, but still. She has zero martial arts experience and isn't even remotely convincing in the role. The only thing she has going is that she sort of looks like Cammy. It's a good thing she's remembered for her many other successfull endeavors.
@@Xylarxcode doesn't matter this film is rushed.
"Grab the nail gun. I hear there's a sale at Home Depot."
Oh Van Damme-it!
Oh that's where "Of course" is from. OF COURSE!!!
I love the other villains's STFU look at "Change the channel!"
"Who wants to go home?"✋
I actually have this on VHS(and a personal back up DVD copy), and I like to go back every few years, and rewatch it, because it's so bad it's good.
Julia's scenery-devouring at the climax was amazing, though
BUT BALROG'S ONE OF BISON'S GUYS!!
4:51 "Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to burn down an orphanage and puppy farm. Ahahahhrnhn mmn." 😌🍵
Is Doug immortal?
Jeff E He is immortal as long as we keep him in our hearts...or something like that, I'm sure.
No, Doug died years ago. He was replaced by his boring twin brother.
The story and fun facts behind this movie are freaking gold. You should definitely look into it
Binge watching all the episodes from all seasons again. Keep up the great work Doug and company
Thanks for watching!
For us, it is the highlight of our week when the Nostalgia Critic posts a new review, but for him it was Tuesday...
He still does a better british accent than Kylie Minogue
Or Dick Van Dyke’s from Marry Poppins
@@johnnyzero8853 nope Dick Van Dyke’s was Shakespeare compared to Kylie Minogue
You've guessed it take over the world?
Bison: OF COURSE!!! lol
I know this movie was hated. I watched the first time I thought it was bad. I gave another shot and I thought it was not to bad. I love the last fight as well. Jean-Claude Van Damme is my second favorite action actor I put Jason Statham as my favorite action actor.
THE CLASSIC! One of my favorite reviews.
the pacing in this is much more quick than NC videos nowadays.
Dhalsim fell into chemicals during a fight scene back in the lab. That's why he looked the way he did, but you're right. They didn't really explain it well enough. It would have been explained in a sequel, as it was supposed to have Dhalsim as he is in the games but that never happened obviously lol
Fun Fact: DJ and Balrog were on opposite sides in this movie and Fei Long was the only character left out for some reason.
Huh Weired last time I checked Street Fighters Main Hero was a Wondering Warrior,Wore a Red Headband,Was an incredibly skilled Martial Artist,Capable of Taking out sky scrappers,Has a Demonic Evil within him,Survived being impaled and Has been in every Street Fighter game and Capcom crossover games and I believed his Name was Ryu.
But here we got Guile as the Main Chracter and I've got nothing against guile but He has'nt really done anything main character material
4:28
This channel in a nutshell.
Fact: JCVD was on coke literally the entire movie. Look it up.
Actually, I like Jean Claude Van Damme
Duncan Fery Idk how old he is, but this dude is acting like he wasn’t alive back when JCVD was popular. Nobody thought any of those things, Van Damme was a badass and guaranteed to sell tickets. Also, idk when he saw the movie, but I remember seeing Mortal Kombat in the theaters when I was 9 years old, and it was freakin awesome. I also loved Street Fighter at the time, but I can admit it was pretty bad now
@@anne_ruok7172 I saw it as a kid too and I thought it was awesome.. and now I still find it awesome (because it's so good at being bad, lol)
I loved the way Dee-Jay looks at Zangief every time he says something stupid!
What makes Bison just flying and hitting Guile straight on even worse was that he had already shown he could use that power to shoot electricity from his hands. A much quicker and from the look how the electricity is visible through, much more lethal attack, if he had focused his powers on electrocuting Guile, it would have been a really easy win. Instead, he went with the much slower and more predictable excuse for a psycho crusher.
Nostalgia critic:let's review the first movie that came out street fighter
Me:OF COURSE
3:50
Fei Long: Well what about meeeee 😔😔😔😔
I like the ken and ryu vs sagat and vega fight
For you, the day Street Fighter movie graced your theater was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday.
*pauses at **6:41*
What the hell is with M. Bison's eyes?
I'm curious to know, what kind of action are you expecting to see out of a live action movie?
They didn't have ALL the character from the Super Street Fighter game. There's no appearance by or mention of Fei Long. Even T. Hawk, the most underdeveloped SSF character. gets a brief scene. But no Fei Long.
OF COURSE!
Was “But for me it was Tuesday” not well known when this review came out?
4:29 *man, that aged badly*
I saw this review in 2008; and I have seen it several times since then, yet I watch once more in 2015.....Of course!!!
there's a really good material out there describing how this trainwreck of a movie got made.
www.polygon.com/features/2014/3/10/5451014/street-fighter-the-movie-what-went-wrong
In short, JCVD was coked out of his mind and banging Kylie, Raul was dying so they had special preparations for every scene he was in, and Capcom kept requesting more characters to be included, despite the original script only including 6 or so. Director did what he could but he was way in over his head
4:25 so worth it for that funny part
Hey, just going to ask: Ever realize that they're playing off of the "U.N" which uses blue helmets and berets?
3:31 As much as I appreciate it, I think that's something you have to take up with the United Nations, not the video game/movie.
Naaah how can you say JCVD is somehow a level below Seagal ? JCVD at is at least almost always genuinely trying to act and he actually knows martial arts and stuff. Seagal clearly never tried while thinking he was somehow a genius, only played in the worst movies (he usually wrote & directed too) and needed a body double to walk and climb stairs even 30 years ago.
Saw this in theaters at the age of 14 and it was glorious. Always has been a guilty pleasure of mine
4:30 It seems that even Zangief is supporting of that movement.
Mortal Kombat was a good movie
cerostark73 Indeed. But the sequel....SUCKED!!!
+Xaivergray87 Oh, yes that is so true.
Xaviergray87 The sequel at least was funny... I prefer the sequel to the first it is at least more entertaining...
NerdA Itami Well, at least there are two things about the sequel that we can all agree on.....
1) it's not directed by Uwe Boll. Yeah, remember that jackass?!?!
2) It's the primary example as to why we'll *NEVER* get another live-action Mortal Kombat move ever again.
NerdA Itami I cannot sit through the sequel in my opinion cause it sucked so bad. Not even so bad its hilarious it is like Dragon Ball Evolution bad.
0:39 How are you able to drink from a skull like that? Wouldn't the liquid fall out the eye sockets before it reached the jaw? Explain, Critic! Explain!
