I stopped commonplace journaling many years ago because they eventually turned into big scrapbooks but I'm giving your method a try. Great tips on how to color. You inspired me to try another budget friendly method. I have a stencil with small circles and I used my colored gel pens to simulate the stickers.

Great point about the accumulation of tabs - I tried that, and things got a bit . . . visually cluttered for me. Presenting the various methods and their pros/cons was very helpful. Cheers!

Thank you for your videos - I just started my commonplace notebook and find them to be very helpful!
I just heard you say that you like to use the frixion pens - I just want to tell you that they can fade over the years. I dug up old notes of mine from over 5 years ago and they were almost not readable anymore. I had to rewrite the page. They can also fade if getting over 70°C that's the thing which make them erasable, bc that temparature results of the friction when you rub the writing with the eraser tip.

You’re welcome! Yes, I know about the fading problem with Frixion pens. I mostly use them in my planners, which I’ll eventually toss out. I haven’t used them in any of my commonplace notebooks or journals that I plan on keeping longterm because of that problem.

I love this and I love the way you break it down. I had a notebook when my husband had surgery that was on this line. So much was being thrown at us so fast that I could not keep track of it so..... I bought a notebook and wrote everything.... it really was my brain most days. I will be following you to see how to keep one for my own mental health and self-reflection. thank you.
This is a great idea! A commonplace book specifically for medical info. In stressful situations it can be so hard to keep track of what you've been told and what happens next, etc.

First I wanted to say I have been enjoying your videos. I have a question about notebooks. I really like your method of organizing your commonplace books. Are you are of any notebooks that have rules lines for writing and also the vertical lines you add for the titles and stickers of your entries? Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read and hopefully respond.
I was a little confused by your question. I hope this answer helps you. The title of each entry is written on the side of each page.

are commonplace books done by the year or just when they're full?
Most of the time, it's when they are full. But you could create one for each year if you want to.

Hi, Brittany, very helpful video as I'm starting my first commonplace book. A much more straightforward layout than some I've seen that hopefully will work for me.
I have a question though (maybe a stupid one!): having decided on the colour-coding for the categories - I have 5 - is there a quick way to find them in the book or is it just a matter of flipping through the pages for the relevant colour-coded item?
I just flip through my book. If you want to find something more specific, then it would probably be better for you to have an Index. I explain the difference between an Index and a Table of Contents in the beginning of the video. Hopefully, that helps you.
@@PlanYourOneLife It does, thank you. Simply colour coding makes perfect sense. I may resort to an index as well, we'll see how colour coding alone works out.
