My favorite AB. This video illustrates a crucial element missing in our team as it stands today. A consistent, reliable kicker. Mehrtens was hard to replace, and Dan Carter stepped up to the plate with class. Both had accurate place kicks, and the threat of a long droppie to add pressure in attack. But what now?

Spencer was his rival. My gosh they were fierce competitors at 10. Both played a different brand of rugby at first five. Although I love watching Spencer, Merhts would be my first choice 10 for the '03 RWC.

Mehrtz shat all over Spencer. The only reason people remember Carlos is because he did fancy things and was a show pony. Mehrtz kicked and controlled the game(also mehrtz passing game is so under estimated) way better than Spencer did

I remember that first try shown in the video... and it was our only points of the match, because the Wallabies put a dominant win on us that day... back when they had the Beldisloe Cup.
but Mehrtens was certainly mostly perfect I guess... when the All Blacks were going through some dark times... and during Australia's golden era, which now seems GONE.
