    The music just flows through him, it's incredible. The timing, tone, and depth is just so natural to the ear.

    It's lovely to get this view. David shows his natural gift for dynamics and 'feel'. There are many very good 'professional' musicians who do not have this gift. They only do what is written on the page.. they don't use their own soul. David understands it all so well that he becomes it, it becomes him and it's pretty effortless. It's not the point that it's not a perfectly executed version. Even with the distortion and 'vocals' the musicianship and respect for the piece is clear. In the early days of the piece it was played at a faster tempo and with less emotion and more pragmatism than today and was just considered a nice little ditty. Over time its beauty has grown as it has been handed down the generations.

    Some of Glen Gould's mannerisms with none of Gould's technique.You CAN get away with being barking mad if you can actually play...😕😊
    David Helfgott can't really play,certainly not to a professional standard.It doesn't help when people encourage him and tell him he's marvellous out of some misguided form of sympathy or something...
    It would be fine if he stuck to playing for W.I. coffee mornings and the like...😊☺🎩🎹🎼🎶

      Do please upload some videos of you playing this. Music isn’t about being the best, it’s about creating from the soul. I don’t mean the nonsense about god, but our root of our personality. He might not be the most technically secure or accurate, but he creates his own music and his own world, and I for one celebrate that. As a pianist who has regained my career, technique and able to play again after years of uncertainty after serious injury, you don’t take things for granted any more and celebrate every note you’re able to play. Too many people focus on the insignificance and not enough of the incredible joy, that all music has to offer.
      I think maybe you’re struggling to be recognised yourself so rather than dealing with your overweight and insecurity issues maybe you find it easier to criticise others instead of encourage ???
      As Michael Jackson once said. ‘Great artists don’t attack other artists’

    • @grantmalone
      @grantmalone 6 лет назад +2

      Andrew Kennaugh "It doesn't help when people encourage him..." It doesn't help what? He is what he is and he plays as well as he's going to play. It's not like he's a kid who needs criticism more than praise to reach his full potential.
