    The NREMT can be one of 3 things: 1) An easy test that you failed 2) A hard test that you failed 3) One of the hardest tests that makes you question your sanity and you passed

      Before every question, imagine it like a skills assessment. Ask yourself “ABCs in tact? If so, why is an emt needed here?” My civilian instructor told us that and the whole class smoked the nremt

    You guys have it easy! After our 6 week EMT phase we were sent straight to the emergency rooms of the Baragwanath and Keleafong hospitals which serve some of themost violent areas in South Africa where you have to learn on the spot how to deal with gun shot and stabbing wounds. Then we went onto infantry and specialist training. I did mine with air force guys and paratroopers from 44 parachute brigade. That was back in 1992 in the old SADF so I don't know what they do nowadays

    To most of you reading this. You spend very little doing the MOS of combat medic. You never stop learning. Every unit you end up in will have you doing different things. I've been in for 2 years and already going on my second Afghanistan deployment as a combat medic.

    • @McQuiznos

      @@allieex776 Chances are, you WILL deploy. Medics are important as fuck, and youre needed literally everywhere. Ive been one going 5 1/2 years now and love it. But reclassing soon.
      My unit is just garbage though. They deployed to iraq in 04, and afghanistan in 08 and 12. We were supposed to deploy in 16, but didnt. No idea, above my paygrade.
      So now. If we miss a second. Our unit becomes undeployable for a ton of time, bout a decade i think. Funding is severely cut aswell. So theyre fitting in a deployment next year... To australia. Hooray.
      You will deploy alot as a 68W for sure. If you dont, you can always volunteer.
      Personally im tired of it in my unit. Im going 25B, and transferring to 20th group in mississippi where i can deploy a ton. Trust me, i want to deploy. And i hate hearing "thank you for your service" when all i did was sit around these years.
      You will not regret being a medic though. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Its fucking awesome. And when you earn the title doc from your joes, you are golden. Life is paradise.

    • @coalwalker6213
      @coalwalker6213 4 года назад

      @@naiman8870 If you have to ask that question then don't even bother considering the military. It doesn't matter if you go in looking for a non-combat role or not, you WILL be at risk if deployed. • @stu_4162
    @stu_4162 5 лет назад +6

    It doesn’t take a year to get your NREMT EMT certification in civilian life.
    In civilian you can get your EMT in about 5 months, but paramedic takes about 1-2 years. I am in a 17 month paramedic program at the moment.
    So in civilian life if you hear there is a medic then they are referring to a paramedic. But in the military a “medic” can be an EMT(who is trained to give IV’s) or a paramedic. Although most are just EMT’s.

      Depends where you go, there are plenty of slow-moving EMT classes in the civilian world that take time and have a higher pass rate

    • @rachitron
      @rachitron 4 года назад

      @@cheetozc1059 the NREMT-B really isn't that hard. There's no need for an EMT class to go beyond one normal, 15 week semester. Their scope of practice is sooo incredibly limited. And, for situations where their scope is expanded aka the military, those skills are learned in the field and with time on the job.

    Hey, I'm in my 3rd year of community college. Learning about vehicles. Learning how to diagnose problems on cars. Would you recommend taking an emt class to gain knowledge and get a emt license license. Would this help out being a medic? I am currently looking up info about 68w.

    Does someone still go through 68W (formerly 91B) AIT prior to immediately continuing through 68D (formerly 91D) AIT?
    I did that when I went to Ft. Sam AIT IN 1977. Good training. I’m proud to have been in the Army Medical Corps.

    Great vid guy! I just wanted to ask a few questions. For the module exams, was there a lot of questions? If you failed the module tests prior to the final, do you have to retake those module exams? I'm thinking about re-enlisting but this time as 68W. Prior service 92Y. Thanks for the help guys! And again great video!

    I’m an “old man” prior service Marine who is re-enlisting AD Army as a 68W. I’ll be contracted as an E-4 from my rank of E-5 in the Marines. At 38 years old, what do you think my experience may be like in contrast to first timer kids at almost half my age? I’ve got time in the sand back in ‘04-‘05 Iraq and saw my share of casualties and death but yet I was on the rifleman side of things and not a corpsman (medic) so I hope I bring a level of being a mentor if possible to my younger counterparts. Any advice?

    Ben you are a delight to listen to- I’d tap you for a teaching position ! I found this video because my BFF is considering joining the national guard as 68W. She’s bored and suddenly deviated from her plan of nursing school 2019. I don’t want her to enlist because she has a history of substance and sexual abuse and idk but it’s happening so now I’m trying to find out as much as possible. What you described in 26 mins, 5 recruiters couldn’t so it was VERY helpful to hear it right from the source. My question is: what are your thoughts about someone older, 30yrs old doing 68W? Pros/ cons? Thank you so much

    • @TheBenAllen.
      @TheBenAllen.  5 лет назад +2

      Aretha Bright First of all, thank you for watching! So i went to AIT with a few people over 30, most of them did quite well actually, but some of the pros is that you have a little more life experience to offer and to deal with problems, some cons would be that some of the training is physically demanding so you’d have to be decently in shape!

    • @TheBenAllen.
      @TheBenAllen.  5 лет назад

      carol s so yes, you will get certified after AIT, but the only thing you have to do to maintain your cert is to rectify every 2 years, which isn’t hard at all!
