For a while I thought I might have just seen the last Doug and pat show. I was so thrilled to see the first thing of my RUclips home page was your video. Love what you’re doing and really love this isn’t a huge production. It’s all real and is much more relatable to guitar nerds like myself. Two dudes at home jamming and talking about what we’re all trying to achieve, GREAT TONE! Always rooting for you guys and this channel!
Doug & Pat, i just found your channel, this is Awesome here, thanks ,I had a great time here, The Tones i heard here, were so good, i had to change my Depends, Cousin Figel
Your point about component values drifting over time is well-taken. As a technician, I occasionally feel like I'm doing some amps a disservice when I freshen them up. Sure, I'm putting it more or less back to the way the designer intended, but what about when an amp is "broke just right"?
Love your reviews, killer equipment and great tone - you're absolutely slaying it on guitar! I'd be pretty stoked if my chops were at your level, well done!
Un-be-lie-va-ble!!! You are alive! THEY ARE ALIVE! The best podcast of the GALAXY, and they're still ALIVE. Jesus Mary Joseph! I got to download that, burn it on CD and put it in a shrine. Saint Doug and Saint Pat are BACK! Halleluiah!
Welcome back guys. Was thinkimg about you two just a day or so back. Hope you both have been well! I'm working right now but I'll watch this later this evening when I can settle in and enjoy it!!
i finally got around to watching the new episodes. It's great to have you back Doug and Pat. You guys are definitely my favorite guitar channel on RUclips. Not only are you both more likable than almost all other guitar RUclipsrs, with very few exceptions that I like as much as you guys. But then you also feature the gear that I'm craziest about, extensive dives into real vintage Gibsons and the more obscure amps, I love that. I hope we can see much more from you in the future, and I'm excited to see what you'll talk about next time. Thank you as well for demoing the Electro King, there's not much on it out there, and it's been one of my dream amps for years. Keep up the good work Doug and Pat. Stay safe and healthy and enjoy your beautiful gear.
Thanks a lot for the show! Always fun! My tone seeking buddies and myself have been doing some testing with humbucking pickup covers on our Les Paul guitars and the best combination we found is to keep the cover on the bridge pickup which tames the high frequencies a bit and to remove the cover on the neck pickup for a more open tone with more presence.
Great to see you back, I remember these mags from back in day. I was lucky enough to buy these old Gibsons and Fenders back then and still have few. Turned down a 57 gold top same as Oscar for £450 because I preferred my 52 gold top. Anyway that was some fantastic playing.
Love you guys, hope all is well. I'd love to see more from you but if not thank you for all the great content, you opened my eyes and ears to the great tones of the classic LP,s and PAF,s
Years ago I had a GA-40 I purchased from Mike Zatie (a wonderful Man). I've always loved the older Gibson GA Series as I've owned a few. Great to see this comparison, thank you both. Also, so glad you are back.
ive got to thank you ...again. a: i haven't picked up my guitar in a long time and every time Doug plays there's something in there that i have to learn. B: it always takes me out of my pentatonic self and really helps me remember that timing and phrasing with space just sounds better than million note flurries. So thanks for getting me started again...again.
Love these videos and glad you guys are back. In my opinion, Doug's hand vibrato is in the top percentile of guitar players and is key in my opinion to getting those vocals like notes. Cool old guitars and amps dont hurt that's for sure, but man, I dont think you could practice enough to get that. Get better yes, to some degree, but that vibrato is a goddamn gift and is on a whole different level than most will get. Take care and keep em coming.
The tone and character of your '57 GA-40 reminds me of a 1947 Magnatone/Magna Electronics Model M-192-5 I have, about 15W with a single 12" speaker. Breakup and harmonics are very similar sounding, thank you for this demo.
What's happening Gents? Hope you two are doing well. Would love an episode about the new Heritage guitars and how they compare to a vintage LP. Cheers!
I love your channel. I'm excited I just picked my 2018 Gibson special up. I had the mini humbuckers traded out for some Seymour duncan p90s. I can't put it down
Well done fellas! I loved the GA-40. It’s got character like an old rocker. How about looking at different speakers? How about tubes? The amp info is great I think maybe the most important tool to get the “sound” you want.
Sorry to comment so much but wanted to ask you if you knew if you can use a non field coil speaker when replacing one I'm my Chicago 51 Supro Thanks guy's glad your back
The Gibson amp with the LP bridge PU is a sound to die for!!! Word is out that MESA will make a few Gibson amps but reissues or all new is the question.
In the early 70's Vox was loading their cabs and combos in US to save shipping costs Usually Oxfords I had a 73 Viscount that I removed the 2/12's from and put in a Mojo Tone open back Those two torpedo back alnico gold's sound amazing in the new cabinet Cheers fellows Keep up the Good work Absolutely loved my old GA20 I'm rocking a Silvertone 1482 now Not as cool as my 1484 but is my favorite Speakers are SO important
These shows are a great service. You two are a lot less guarded with your opinions than the folks whose business model depends on getting review samples. Ok that out of the way, those new Gibsons _are_ cool, and I have a modern GCS myself (CC15). But goodness for what they're asking now, you can get a Bartlett or a Gil Yaron, and I just think those guitars are at least as good as the very best stuff coming out of the Gibson custom shop. I think similar to amp clones versus new designs, I just prefer to get old amp tones out of old amps, and I like what folks are doing these days that's new. I think you two would really like the amps that Mark Bartel is making.
You guys have to try Sunbear Pickups! I’ve played Throbaks and rewind electrics, but the Sunbear pickups are by far the best sounding pickups I’ve ever played!
I was watching one of your shows a few years ago and noticed a Rich Worthington Les Paul in the background behind Pat’s right shoulder. I know Rich and live near him. I’d like to know more about that particular guitars story.
I have the Electro King, it is at least 12 years old now, maybe more, with Jensen RI alnico 12. And the GA40 is my dream amp... so this episode grabbed my attention 🙃 and it was great from you to compare both with the same 66 Alnico G12.. What I think Mark Baier did with this amp was he took the tweed Deluxe power section and just implanted the octal Gibsonish preamp to it. It does sound good.. but not a GA40 by any means. The signature (Gibson) breakup is not there.. no cigar. I have a 59 GA8 Gibsonette.. double-SE 6V6s.. THAT is the sound, with the most natural breakup there ever was... 🤩
Welcome back! I just bought my first actual LP which is a 2021 CS 1957 reissue dark back gold top with a 59 Carmelita neck. It has the CME spec S bucker pups and they sound a bit harsh when compared to the Lollar imperials in my Eastman SB59v. Do you think the culprit is most likely the pups or could it be wiring/pots or guitar body? Have you ever compared any gibson custom shop pups to Lollar or Throbak?
Was glad to see these guys come back after a long hiatus! But I fear they have gone back into hiding once again. I hope they consider they don't necessarily need prepared content for each one, but could simply chat with their audience occasionally and let Doug review/play some various vintage or even new guitars from time to time and everyone would be happy.
The current situation is that Doug is on an extended tour of Germany and the UK until the middle of July when we will start back in our show schedules that are stacking up. No knows why Doug needs to run around the world all footloose and fancy free but it's obvious he doesn't care about anyone else's feelings, especially Pat's. Someone needed to say it. D&P
@@DFraserHomes Hah, I love the irreverent reply and that's why I love you guys! Looking forward to seeing you again in July and thanks for commenting and staying with it!
I'm glad to see you guys are still at it; I've thoroughly enjoyed every episode that I've caught so far. I have a question: I caught your showcase of the Henry amp and I wondered how one might request/arrange a similar showcase?
That's the thing with those YT guitar reviews, it's all about quality and price but a 12 year old kid can tell you that, it's only half of the story. That's why I love this show, it's all about the other half.
Amazing amps, both of them! Regarding the Amber pickups in your Heritage, I am wondering if they are having A5 magnets like the ones you were testing in your legendary show about the German stuff, or if it’s A4, like the newer ones are? Thx!
Cool stuff, gents! Gotsta check me out some GA-40s, I see! Thankfully a bit more common than the VOX AC10 SRT. Maybe I can get in the ballpark of great tone for under $4,000 after all?
1957 Gibson GA40 amp - I was in the dark about these. ...Who needs an overdrive or fuzz with that. Great. I bought a Fuzz pedal from 5 Star Guitars couple months ago - I don't have a '57 Gibson GA-40.
Damn, too long in between shows! we miss you guys! Curious to see what the new Gibson/Boogie amps will come out with. The Rev.Billy is coming back to Halifax in a few weeks, I'll tell him to quit pestering you guys.
There my 2 favorite guys! Come east to Brooklyn NY, you guys can shoot a video in my home studio i just built! Just make sure you bring one of dem' bursts, itll be safe with me, har har hardy har har! just a joke! You guys can come record for free in my joint anytime! Ill show ya's around town!
Hey guys glad you're back Hopefully w Gibson buying Mesa Boogie the will listen to the market and come out with some recreations or actual clones of these great circuits Anyway wanted to tell you guys when player's are. buying a new amp these days to play play play it Especially if you have vintage amps that you play mostly I bought a new amp for the first time since the mid nineties (CS 100 watt Tonemaster) LoL So the new amp which cost over a grand took a crap after only 25 hour's of actual playing time but took several months because of the vintage amps I would play mostly The new amp was for gigging so as not to risk something precious This lead to warranty issues Couldn't exchange or return Waiting months now to get it returned from Boutique Amp Distributers out in California I have several vintage combos so have to say I will probably never buy a new amp again after this experience

yeah Dougs really got my gain down and mids up and its true the notes do just Blume more.

Love the Doug and Pat show. This is the guitar player's channel. So glad you all are still making content.
Great to see yall back in action. Looking forward to more exciting nerdy shows..!
I was in the middle of watching a movie when I received notification of a new episode. I'll finish the movie later. Doug and Pat take priority!

You mean the Electro King does not have the paraphase inverter ? Can't believe that, whats the point of calling it a GA-40 recreation ?
