I must thank you guys as you are partly responsible for me purchasing a set of THROBAK pickups 8.6 k bridge 7.6 k neck and I put them in my new 2021 les paul standard ice tea 60s neck ,with standard burstbuckers it was a great guitar with the THROBAK’s it’s a killer guitar there is so much more detail in the sound post upgrade……so once again thanks for your online testing as it gave me the balls to pull the trigger on a set also I took off the covers and to my amazement they were both double whites “well a gorgeous deep ivory colour”.
Honestly, the Doug and Pat Show is such a great place to be for the time they extend their always too short (for me) videos they upload. Your knowledge and analysis therefore are always fun and engaging. Thanks for these past ten years of marvelous content!
YES!! I was watching old episodes just this morning! I was really missing you guys and hoping for a new episode. AND NOW THIS AFTERNOON MY HOPES COME TRUE! Thank you very much guys
I've learned a lot by watching this show . Thanks ! And I've busted out the Doug & Pat toboggan here in Ohio . Winter came early . I heard Billy Gibbons wanted to do the show and was even waiting in the Kmart parking lot waiting for Pat to come out . Billy said he tried to wave Pat's limo driver down but he just drove on by at a high rate of speed .
Keep up the videos - always fun! Amazing - my VALCO sounds just like the old Coronado, and I haven't even modded it. It has the 6973 tubes, and just roars. Use the right speakers, and completely dime it, and it sounds the same as Doug's opening to Good Times Bad Times. It's a 1624T.
This was an early Christmas preset - I'm a HUGE fan of you guys! That 59 Supro sounded damn good. Sundragon sounded good, too, but I liked the 59 mo betta. The older Marshall sounded better than the newer one to me, but I preferred the 59 Supro to both.
I was really fortunate to have worked in the vintage guitar and amp field here in Seattle for approximately 30 years. During that time we saw some amazing gear roll through the doors of the shop and I was lucky enough to have scored some really great pieces at super fair prices. This was in the late seventies on through the early 2000s. So I was buying vintage gear before it was vintage at non vintage prices if that makes sense! I was never really a marshall guy although how can you not love that tone? My rig for 15-20 years consisted of a 1965 Fender Pro Reverb and a 1966 Fender Super Reverb that I played in stereo with various Les Paul's. Remember this is before the Vintage thing hit. I had a 1954 gold top with the cream p90s, a 1955 Les Paul Custom and a 1956 Les Paul Custom with the gold Bigsby and last but not least a 1970 Les Paul Deluxe cherry sunburst and the finale was a 1963 Strat! My desert aisle amp though was a 1959 four input narrow panel Tweed Deluxe 5e3 circuitry. I installed a 1960's original cone Celestion blue g12 alnico speaker in that amp and after all these years I can say that that was the finest sounding amp I've ever owned! Should have kept it...thanks for the comparison and the upload you guys!
Happy 10th year anniversary you guys! Absolutely one of my top two or three favorite channels on RUclips because you guys keep it real and you've got the experience and knowledge that helps all of us along the way in our playing and the search for the Holy Grail of tone!! I sure would love to get my hands on that 57 gold top of yours! Cheers from seattle!
Congratulations you guys! I cannot express how much I enjoy your show. Your tone is also the tone I like. Especially the vox 10 watt srv you guys use on the show. Keep bringing the good sounds/discussion! Carry on!!!!!!
Doug does too care! Happy 10th anniversary guys. I loved the sound of that Supro Coronado. I'll add it to the list of things I can't afford on Reverb. Cheers
Hey guys; something to keep in mind regarding comparing Old vs new amps that are supposed to be identical…. Amplifier components such as resistors and capacitors, all vary within a certain percentage. I.e. manufacturing standards for these electronic components can vary in their values but 10 to 20 %. For example. A 1k ohm resistor’ actual value may be 900 to 1100 ohms, if the standard is plus or minus 10%. This much variation in a resistor, when combined with variations in the rest of the amps components, can sound different, even though the components are supposed to be the same value. Best wishes to you guys! Love your show.😃
3 days ago i checked your channel if i missed your last videos...no i didn't and i was thinking 🤔 Are the two boys ok? It's so much fun to have you back!
That 59’ Supra has the magic dust! I have a later harmony with a sweet pair of black plate 6973 power tubes and what a difference a great pair of these tubes can have. I initially thought ho-hum and I tried my third pair and bOOM!
Happy to see you again, I like your analysis approach on old and less old and more gear particularly on the analysis of different guitar pickups. Recently I replaced the pickups on my gibson historic collection DC special, and now with P90s from Throbak sb special, it sounds great Thanks to you two Doug and pat. I can ask Doug to give us a demonstration of his talent on the guitar.Sonny from Belgium (Europe).
Like the Fab Four drinks tray on the wall . I won one in a Bingo game back in '66 in New Brighton England . Haven't seen it since the seventies .........
Thank you gentlemen, an excellent feature. When I first started playing, late sixties, my buddy had a Marshall 20, but the PA with the column speakers, I never thought it sounded that good, not like you made it sound, but the speakers had eliptical drivers and weren't great for guitar, I had a TV front VOX AC15, which sounded amazing, even with my very average playing at the time.
Hey guys glad to see you again on RUclips! I bought set of Sanford Magnetics paf pickups several years ago because of your reviews and a P90 from some dude named Lindy Fralin. Anyways Thanks for the demos they are always informative and very helpful!!!! I even got a DrZ nova and an ems I realized that a proper amp is very important. Since your old VOX ROCKS! maybe a future amp demo with the Z amps? Something to ponder maybe✌️
Really nice demonstration. I thought both the Sundragon and Supro sounded really great. Imo the new Sundragon with a treble boost could be right there with the 1959. The vintage Marshall sounded much better and authentic to my ears. Having said that, Dave Friedman fine tunes all my amps so I don’t rely on off the shelf models. Having said that, I realize most would not do that but the new Marshall could be made to sound like that Vintage or even better while keeping it non master. Really enjoyed the video, guys
Small amps are cool and easy to carry around but I prefer the tone and the headroom that you get out of bigger amps. My two main amps are an older Fender Twin Reverb and a Marshall JMP Super Lead head with a 4x12 cab. Both sound great and were modded by Rick Onslow.
I listened through my home audio system so I could really hear the difference. I have to agree that the original sounded “better” to me. The newer Marshall sound just a bit muddy compared to the original. On a side note. Have you ever reviewed any of the Victoria Amplifiers models? I have owned a few of them over the years and love them. My favorite so far is the 45410 (59 Bassman) with 5881’s in the output stage. I have noticed you guys lean towards the EL84 loaded amps, which is what I used to as well. But this 59ish sounds simply amazing to me if you have it at least 50% up on the volume. Anyway, great seeing you guys again.
Great to see a new video from you guys. Pat is right about the old original amps, especially Marshalls. Tonally they just have something special about them that the reproductions never seem to fully nail. Its not cork sniffers snobbery, the differences are genuinely noticeable to the ear, whether old or young. I've owned a 1966 script logo 30watt JTM45 since my mid teens (purchased 1977) and I've tried the relatively recent JTM45 30w (model 2245) reissues a few times over the years but each time they've left me thinking my old amp still has a certain presence the repro's seem to lack.
Use Vinny’s V-Pick Fusion with my electrics and the V-Pick Tradition UL (WAY thinner) with my acoustics. AWESOME picks. Suggest everybody should check ‘em out.
I finally got that 59 dream machine! It’s a 1959 Sano Excelsior in mint condition! To the tech it goes before the two prong gets me. Time to hang with the cool guys and talk about adult things! Sweet amps…
Yes - as another comment below stated - If "Brent from Seattle" gets this message, or Doug & Pat - you can get us ahold of Brent - I have a VALCO of similar vintage that already sounds like 95% like Jimmy's amp. Would love to get in touch with Brent to discuss mods/ his knowledge/ etc.! Thank you!
The 12" Jensen in the Colby "Sundragon" has a Celestion cone/voice coil instead of the original stock Jensen. I have a 2061X. The amp that Mitch built had all NOS original parts and valves. It sounds exactly like Page's amp! (Don Butler)
Hey Don, get feeling better amigo, we saw what you were going through. As for the Dragon: did you hear one of the expensive ones and was it compared to Pages somewhere? You have sound judgement in all ways. D&P
@@DFraserHomes Thanks! It’s been a long haul.. normal recovery is 3-6 months on average. I have 8, 4” titanium screws in my lower back(the fusion part..) I go see my surgeon tomorrow as it’ll have been 6 weeks. Sure didn’t care for the first week, but after that it’s been better each day! I’m back to walking a mile + every day. I’m putting an RS output tranny in my 2061. I’ve put a lot of NOS Phillips Mustard caps in it!
Hi I'm Matt mccourt Ernie Pascuzzi just told me about your TV show I remember you guys from beaverton music I took my first drum lessons at age 7 I've got a RUclips channel also I love it now I'm gonna watch a show are you always used to get doug Fraser mixed up with doug rowell but I always remember the guy was super long blonde hair see you next time
I saw ZZT this summer and I think you two guys need to give Billy a refresher course in tone. Hope he stops by soon. Thanks, the 2061x reissue is one of my personal favorites.
There's nothing better I like to see than a notification for a bit of Doug and Pat
Welcome back Doug and Pat. We really missed you guys!!
Me too.
Here’s to another 10 years! Keep on rocking guys
10 years! We salute you for the first 10 and the next 10!

It’s good to see you guys again … the PAF tone has finally been found

Oh my god that 59 Supro sounds killer. The first chord you hit and I was like yep that’s the tone. Buried that sun dragon
YAY!!!!!!! My wife and I were just hoping you two were doing well the other morning. So EFFING lovely to see and hear you!
good to see you.... missed you

10 years and I’m just finding you now! Love the Les Paul intro!
They are back!
10 years, but you're only making 2 videos per year. No, really. Love the channel. Always waiting for more.
Those Supro's sound AWESOME :) The Marshall's kick heavy too!

Great to see you gentlemen back!!
They both sound great, that Marshall tone is so great, makes that Heritage sound so good , great comparison 👏
This video is 5 hours old !?!?!
Great fun to see you guys! Sheesh ! Jimmy page supro to boot !

Holy crap a new Doug and Pat Show!!!!!! YES!
Good to see you guys. I did notice the jacket.
I did an interview with Mitch on my channel awhile back too. We didn’t get technical either, but it was a fun hang.
My favourite show. Love your videos. Always great fun… of course Pats jackets are a highlight ! 🤩
Happy Thanksgiving you guys! So glad you're still making videos!

No worries, YOU guys are shootin' for 20 yrs... Awesome.... Cheers from Mike in BC
Cool episode, thanks. The original Supro was amazing, both Marshalls were cool but different
here germany. you can play my old jc120 when you are near stuttgart.
and i built a princeton.
doug, you are a superb guitar player. really true.

Welcome back! Coronado by a mile for me.
Hey Guys,
Yall are holding up well! Better than I. Great show, I never tire of watching/ listening.
Welcome back! What tele is that?
You guys are the last bastion for great music
Nice to see you guys again. 🤓
The real 59 Supro is miles above the other one. Wow.
Agreed!
This show makes me happy!
Great, The Boys are Back in Town😀
Now I can sleep well, knowing Doug and Pat are on our side 🙏🏼
So happy your back

Have you ever tried some of those old Treble-Boosters? Lots of guitarist used them in the late 60s/early 70s
Did not expect the 1959 to spank the new one. It did.
Welcome back fellas. 👏

So great seeing you guys again 👍👍
I jumped on this as soon as I saw the notification.
So glad I saw this !!
Doug you inspire me to up my skills on the guitar I'm seventy now and Pat. Your the personification of the seventies music scene nice job boys
Good to see you guys again. But Doug your such a smart aleck. I really don't see how Pat can take you all the time.
A lot of the tone is in the speaker cone - whatever crazy chemicals they put in them back in the day make them sound so good lol
New Doug And Pat! Yes!
That 59 modded Supro sounds perfect. If you like Jimmy and I love Jimmy. What would I have to do to get one of those?
Welcome back. I miss you when you're gone...
The Sundragon reminds me of my Victoria 2Stroke. Built in Naperville, Il, handwired, got it for about 1k, great little amp.
I saw ZZT this summer and I think you two guys need to give Billy a refresher course in tone. Hope he stops by soon. Thanks, the 2061x reissue is one of my personal favorites.
He's using Magnatone now, right? It seems like he's using a TONNNNNN of gain when I hear him now.
