What I sometimes do when my bug/bus is parked in the garage while I'm away for the weekend, is remove the rotor from the distributor and put the cap back on ...
It looks neat & clean, so anyone getting into the engine bay can't even see any disconnected wires ... Just takes 30 seconds ... Some great tips here!
That is a good one, my dad use to do that all the time on his rail buggy he had. Easy and quick.
But missing distributor rotors are probably one of the first things pro thieves look for, and will have extras on hand. Remember they only need to move it a short distance to get it into a covered truck and away they go.
Amen on the insurance. Some crooks broke Into mine by cutting the top! It’s a convertible, and they only wanted a bag. Luckily it was only dirty clothes, but it cost me a new top.
I now leave the car unlocked. Nothing inside. In it does have a kill switch.
Man.. cut the top that is some crap... not sure I'd ever leave my baby somewhere that was out of site... lol
Good tips man
Thanks brother, just a few... you know there are like a million. 😃
G'day Jason Kevin here from Australia. Great video and a very important subject.
We tend to forget about this issue because where honest people but guys we have to accept that there are arseholes out there who want your car.
What i do is use a kill switch like what you would see in a race car . There is a bit of wiring to do but it disables everything. No big red key nothing works. Also great for safety as well .
Anyhoo stay safe and stay well.
✌ Peace guys.
So wish it wasn't something we had to worry about but it is the reality. Whatever we can do to keep them safe.
I grew up in the inner city of Gary, Indiana during late 60's - 70s & Crime was off the charts. My buddy had an old car he used for driving to work at the steel mill. At his house he would park it between two trees then lock it up with logging chains to the tree's every night. One day went to his car to go to work; the car was facing the other direction between the tree's. It had a note on it and said; " If we wanted this old crap car we would have taking it a long time ago" On my sons beetle when he drove it to the local college ; he used a magnetic reed switch on ignition. It a very low crime area but he liked the exrta protection. Funny one day he called me; dad my car will not start..did you enable the magnetic reed switch under the seat..no I forgot..
Lol... that is a great story Dan... love it! I may mention you and it in the next video. 😃 How have you been, are you feet doing ok? Good to hear from you!
Another great video, Jason. Good content and great editing. Expecting to see your subs going through the roof 👍🏻 Ben 🇬🇧
Thanks Ben, glad you enjoyed the video brother!
good stuff. never thought of the motorcycle chain bolt anchor
Anything to slow them down!! Lol
Instead of a toggle switch for the fuel pump relay, you could use a large jack plug like the kind on a guitar lead and connect the terminals together inside it. Mount the socket on the dash and connect the low power earth lead from the pump relay to it so that when the plug is inserted, it completes the circuit and energises the pump. You can keep the modified plug on your key chain.
Much more secure than a switch that anyone can use when they've found it.
Cool... is that what you have?
@@JWClassicVW not currently, but I've done it in the past and I'm planning to use it again when the car is back together.
That's actually a great idea! Thanks for that!
Love the idea except for a hole in the dash
Must think of another way to implement this awesome idea
Thanks for sharing 👏👏
I can do the fuel pump switch installation soon, so I'll try it. Thank you for giving me a good idea.
Awesome, glad the video was able to help out!
Great tips..but I was thinking of a / removable handle battery switch...maybe
That is a great idea, removable handle... for sure!
Great info. BTW, I like the pics of the Rat Pack 😎
Thanks Mike!
Engine sounds solid. Awesome bug 👍🏼🤙🏼
Thanks brother!
Where I live, I'm usually not too worried about people stealing my bug... she's a 4 speed amd most of the people around here can barely drive an automatic let alone try and take off with all 40 horses
Theft is always a concern here but with being so close to the border in Texas it definitely jumps!
Jason I love your camera set up, great job!
Thanks Darryl!!
Locking shifter, and quick disconnect steering wheel 👍🏻
Yes, all great ideas!
I was thinking about drilling a hole through the clutch pedal and the brake pedal and use a big pad lock to lock them together, I understand it can still be pushed or pulled but not driven away easily
Definitely would work!
Do you need a relay when installing a switch on the fuel pump?
Not if its close to the fuse box like mine. If it's hidden somewhere further away then you may.
Awesome. Good to know. Was planning on hiding the switch in my glove box.
Great content. Keep it up
Like always great video my volky brother
I appreciate that!
Jason, good video. I’m planning of a battery switch I think. Here’s idea I’ve been thinking about, can you develop a video on a Fire Extinguishing system?
That would be cool but would probably go with the one that is already on the market.
What happened I needed this content so bad .
Still uploading brother
@@JWClassicVW d'oh sorry about that it's just that I'm not finished with my 6 car garage because I have all oldies and really goodies and people like them but don't want to pay so I put my short bed Chevy truck and my 63 beetle Casper up on blocks and took off the axle and brake calipers off the truck .And the rear brakes on Casper . If they steal them now they will F,N earn it but if I catch em it will be some crying and weeping and slow hymn singing 😠😡🤬
@@charlesmartin7347 Exactly!!! If they want it they are gonna need to really break out the bag of tricks!!!
The only way to not have it be stolen is it have your pit bull in the car every time you go somewhere
Dang... I'm going to need some pups!! lol
what was the PSI air filter thing you showed installed above the engine coming off the engine?
Fuel pressure gauge.
@@JWClassicVW thanks, what advantages does this give you?
@@michaelsaxbury8705 The fuel pressure gauge along with the fuel regulator ensure the proper fuel pressure is getting to my dual Webers. To much fuel pressure or to little can cause all sorts of problems. The gauge is a quick way to diagnose issues.
You can check out the install video here if interested: ruclips.net/video/na9Q7ajdIZA/видео.html
Why does your fuel gauge flash? What trick do you have?
Thats what it does when it's close to empty.
Beautiful Ride
Thanks man
nice sunset
Thanks Mike!! It was a beautiful way to end the day!
What final drive and gears are you running? Is it a highway flyer?
Standard Pro street build from Rancho. With a 4.12 ring and Pinion.
You can get it from CB Performance.
Pro Street Transaxles Super Diff ready, Heavy Duty Side Plate, welded 3rd and 4th gear hubs, steel shift forks, and hardened keys. The gear ratio is that of a freeway flyer, but just built stronger.
1st gear: 380. 2nd gear: 206. 3rd gear: 132. 4th gear: 0.82.
@@JWClassicVW .82 4th. I did notice the low revs while you cruised at 65mph. I have a 3.88 with a stock .93 4th and my revs at 65 are significantly higher. Love your videos, keep up the good work.
Good job man!!
Thanks!
Great info. 👍
Awesome! Glad you liked it!
How about low jack that bug or something
i have done the fuel pump switch, removing power from the coil, i got a wheel clamp from a surplus shop, and i clamp my own car, it comes in handy even if i park in a no park zone ,they would think the traffic people clamped my bug,( don't worry i live in asia :) )
lol... the wheel boot is a awesome idea, I feel like here in america it would end up getting you towed. ;)
a tracker works great also
That is true... ive got one of those to. 😃😃😃👍
Cant believe they need to steel a old beetle , but i will need to do that elec trix with my 59 beetle. Insurance ? My broker thinks it is a joke👍
Sounds like you may need a new broker... lol Insurance is a must not just for theft but also possible damage. These cars are stolen often here in Texas especially with the values going up so much and being so close to the border.
Try Hagerty's insurance they've done pretty good by me and mine. Tell em Charles Martin sent you
any tickets. putting a tracking device is good $40
Yes I love my tracker!! No tickets... lol "knock on wood".
Sorry, but the first 8:17 minutes were about coffee and driving; not about the clip's subject.
Yup my videos include a certain level of entertainment as well... thanks for stopping by and sharing! 😉
