What I appreciate about their arrangements and harmonies is that they toy with dissonance SO WELL. Half of their notes don't get resolved and it does something to your attention, to your breathing... there is, at the same time, a subtle beauty and an intensity to their harmonies. They don't just do 3rds and 5ths, which are beautiful, but predictable. Sort of like a hook at the end of an a cappela song, you go, "WHOA. Was not EXPECTING THAT!" They're so talented. I hope to see them someday. I also agreed with your assessment of the volume of the vocals. Everything else seemed to meld very well; the first singer could have benefited from being turned up a bit.
They sound sooo good. And glad, they have a band now, they also seem to sound pretty dope. Though my chances are slim to none, i really really hope to catch them live sometime in the future...
cinya's voice is the softest, so the doubling sounds good on her verse, but i agree with you on the intimacy lost in the recorded version. especially Maya's voice, it shines so much when its singular
Love Tiny Habits- I have been lucky to see them 3 times in the last 12 months. I give all introductory credit to my teen daughter who has great taste in music. First as openers for Gracie Abrams so they were completely acapella, then once in Philly at the Foundry where I actually was standing next to Maya’s parents and then saw them last week in DC at Union Stage. Each time, I was moved to tears at some point because their harmonies are just so beautiful. The whole band is exceptionally talented so I wish them all the greatest success in the world.
Wow! That was impressive. Thanks for putting this out.
Glad you enjoyed it!
