    I can't believe that you are holding the radio by the antenna. That is bad for the radio. Just taking the antenna off and on is not good but holding it by the antenna is terrible.

    • @TheNotaRubicon
      @TheNotaRubicon  5 месяцев назад +23

      and yet, it still works perfectly. Obviously you don't understand how antennas and radios work.

    • @JawTooth
      @JawTooth 5 месяцев назад +2

      @@TheNotaRubicon I have damaged radios that way. The connection from the antenna to the radio can come loose and I have had that happen. Your radio will not receive or transmit as well if you keep doing that. I have had these radios since the mid 80s and I know what I'm talking about. Through normal wear and tear, an antenna can become kinked or broken. Another way antenna can become damaged is if users pick the radio up by the antenna. This can cause damage at the connection point to the radio.

    • @sexybitch6605
      @sexybitch6605 Год назад +3

      Well radio reference website is dead. Those moderators banned so many members that it killed the hobby off let alone what technology did. Those moderators did not contribute to keeping the radio hobby alive instead they killed it off by not offering any kind of assistance or information. No technical support. The salespeople in the stores always said go to that website because the salepeople didn't know a thing about the radio hobby they were just into the marketing aspect of it. So now radio reference is just a mere shell of its self. It serves them well. 🤣🤣😂🤣

    There are about 5 states that you can be arrested in for having this radio in your car. You are exempt if you are an amateur radio operator like me. However, if the police don't know about the exemption you are screwed. I was arrested in Kentucky. They towed my car and went through all my stuff. I had to go to court where all charges were dropped when I showed the judge the exemption in the law. Did I get an apology from the police? No.

    Been enjoying your videos for a while now. The best part is your tone. These are just toys for an otherwise useless hobby. I understand they would be the final communication tool when the apocalypse hits - so, go ahead, have fun, keep it running. But at this point in human civilization everybody carries a radio, sans license, that can communicate around the world. I own a Baofeng AND a full ham radio but don't have nor need a license. Should the occasion ever require the use of either devices, having a license will be the bottom of anything anyone cares about.
    TL;DR - hams, your close to useless hobby does not deserve the dead serious behavior you all seem to want to push. It is no longer the pre 1970's - lighten up.

    I, along with everyone at Rise Up AC, have Randy, his family and everyone in the NotaRubicon group of GMRS users and friends in California in our prayers as Hurricane Hilary passes over them. Randy, if possible, let us know how you and everyone is doing.

      So far the rumors of the demise of Southern California have been greatly exaggerated.. We are in the center of the predicted path of the storm that was supposed to begin hitting last night and thus far we've seen nothing more than slight drizzle and 0 wind..
      Is it possible that the media has been over-hyping this storm? Like they've done with the last 50 storms in the last few years that also turned out to be nothing more than "rain" ?

    Good Mr. Randy...
    How does one change or customize the roger-beep on the ol' reliable "boo-fwang" UV-5R?

    I’ve tried desperately to recreate that pencil for my own professional development and I just can’t get it right. :-( And my beaver is not cooperative. Wait, that probably didn’t come out just right… Anyway, could you just do a video showing us how to set up the pencil?? Please & thank you.

    Which radios would you get for friends and families to communicate in a disaster across the country?

    • @TheNotaRubicon
      @TheNotaRubicon  Год назад +6

      Good quality ham HF units with directional antennas on the roof. You're not going to find any handheld nor low-cost/simple radios that can reliably communicate across the country.

    Also, do I really need a second Brennan for air bands only?

    Should i go for a uv5r or uv9r plus? I am absolutely new in this field.

      You should go for whichever of the two best meets your needs and has the features you prefer.
