Wow patrick you made a movie about me. I have extreme food allergies its no laughing matter. P.s i got a friend who makes movies 4 so far i can put you in touch with him.
"No one will hire you to do something unless you've already done it." As a creative person, (not to mention a college graduate in the liberal arts in the United States), it feels SO good to actually hear someone say this. You know how tired I get of hearing people talk about "transferable skills?" After 4 years of tutoring experience, when I try to apply for a teaching job: "So you've never ACTUALLY TAUGHT before? Like in a classroom?" After five years of small-town journalism experience and a lifetime of talking and blogging (unpaid) about movies, when I try to apply for a job as even a freelance entertainment writer: "So you've never actually BEEN PAID to write about this exact subject matter before?" Patrick speaks truth: No one will hire you to do something unless you've already done it.
Reminds me of right after I graduated college. Every job place I went to said the employers were all looking for experience in my field. I was finally able to get a temp job doing something outside my area of study just to pay the bills. A job became available at that company that was in my area of study and I was hired because my employer was already familiar with my work. I've been working in the same line of work for over 40 years now. I shudder to think what would have happened had I not been able to get that experience.
It is wild how many youtubers think that commenting on movies will lead to getting to make a movie though. Look at all the directors we love. They all went and made movies first.
@@howiespancakeshack you need money to shoot even a short film, to get money the person hiring you will require yoi have experience, in essence it means unless you are self funding it's extremely hard to get the foot on the door in the industry.
@@l4nd3r For sure. I didn't mean making money of youtube, that's great. It is a chicken and egg - but you basically have to want it more than anything else - to the detriment of everything else, for as long as everything else. It has never been easier to make a movie. Patrick made a whole coconut one with a crew of mostly 1. I get he's excited about crew, that's amazing and I am happy for him. Hope he makes an amazing movie.

Im so excited to see your film, been waiting for a film by you for years frankly. I know you'll do great, please just remember to constantly trust in your vision while considering and seeking the critism of your collaborators. Break all the legs
You've put in so much time to this craft that it's about time it starts paying off! Night of the Coconut felt like an inflection point in your career and I'm so excited to see what The Dinner Plan will do for you and your friends. I wish you all the best!
Super excited to hear about this! Unfortunately I missed the boat on Night of the Coconut, so I'm looking forward to be with you on this journey! Also, first!
It’s surprisingly entertaining. I wasn’t expecting much but I enjoyed it. It was nothing against Patrick but RUclipsrs don’t have the best track record of making movies lol
I remember after Chris Stuckmann directed a movie people started getting annoyed with him because he wasn't as critical in his reviews anymore. In reality he just grew a deeper appreciation of the process. I love critical discussions about movies but your average move reviews are kinda dumb because they typically gloss over hundreds of people hard work and effort to minimize the entire film to just be "good" or "bad".
@@carpeXnoctem12 No, he straight up said he will never criticize any movie again. And it's obviously because he doesn't want to potentially make any enemies with anyone who could advance his career. It's the same as anyone else working in Hollywood. And critics understand much more than the average person how much work goes into a movie. However, criticism should not be influenced by that, since it doesn't matter to the final product. (If anything, a bad movie should be seen as a tragedy, a waste of a collective decades worth of work.) A lot of work and coordination goes into getting a Big Mac on your plate, but I'm still going to disregard a McDonald's employee's opinion on the quality of their food.

Really excited to see what you do with this Patrick. I enjoy your film criticism, but as a medium-term watcher of your channel / Nebula subscriber, I'm happy to see you pivot. No pressure from me to keep up some content schedule of regular videos and reviews. Make the art you want to make.

That's such a great news !! So happy for you and all your crew to embark on this adventure. That’s awesome!!! I was wondering when you were going produce a narrative fiction film. I appreciate your show. The quality is top notch. It helped me realize I needed to take my material more seriously.
Congratulations, Patrick. I saw the cast announcement on some official channel (maybe Deadline or something, I forget, but I do commend Nebula for making sure their productions hit those channels), and was quite impressed, quite an impressive feather in both your and Nebula's cap.
