  • The number of drivers stuck in the Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse is already 6 figures, and that BEFORE the DOT unlocks a new screening and testing method next month.
From January 2022 to January 2023 the number of professional drivers in Prohibited Status with FMCSA's Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse with a violation jumped by more than 39,000, and through the first 60 days of this year, it’s grown another 5,000.
ATA estimates there’s a shortage of about 78,000 drivers industrywide, but as of the most recent data available from FMCSA, about 126,000 drivers are sitting on the sidelines right now with a drug violation. More than 95,000 of them haven’t even started the return to duty process.
The number of drivers testing positive for drug use is pretty staggering, and that’s mostly coming from urinalysis and very limited blood sampling tests.
Brandon Wiseman, President of Trucksafe Consulting and partner with the Childress Law firm in Indianapolis, joins the 10-44 this week as we look at what we might can expect as it relates to positive tests once oral fluid testing becomes more viable.
