I'm loving how you present subjects in a clear, concise, but not a my-hair-is-on-fire, vibe! Your explanations are easy for a new preppper to understand. This old lady loves to see strong women speaking on a subject that is mostly led by men. Thank you!

Lots of great information. As you state, "Natural Disasters are Most Likely Threat" - absolutely. So many "preppers" are focused on a world without rule of law (TEOTWAWKI), or an EMP disaster, or WW3. Those kinds of things make good novels, but are not the most realistic. The U.S. power grid is definitely a major weak link. More than just susceptible to cyber threats, the power grid can be wiped (at least regionally) by a natural disaster (snowstorm, earthquake, wildfire). The "perfect storm" of a natural disaster that impacts the power grid would be devastating to most folks in the U.S. Should something like that occur, the typical "3 days" of supplies would be inadequate. It's more prudent to think in terms of 3 months. And some people think in even longer time frames (LDS, Amish). Yeah, "bullets" are thrilling topics on internet boards, but "beans" will get you through in the long run.

Absolutely. The fear and worst case scenarios are great for movies!
And your points about the power grid being susceptible to natural disasters and extreme weather events is spot on. Texas is a perfect example.
I am also thinking WAY more long-term than 3 days. We will do an entire video on how to decide the right amount of time to store stuff. As always thank you for your thoughtful comments and added perspective. Appreciate your engagement with this community.

In Florida, I definitely miss air conditioning when the power is out.

Oh yes! I lived there for 7 years, and it is horrible when the air goes out.

I would miss the most without power out is heat in the winter. I live in Alberta and not having heat in the winter is not an option.

Absolutely! We love Mr. Buddy propane heaters for emergency heat. It won’t last forever, but at least it keeps the chill off for a bit.

You need power to go and waste money on a lottery ticket! Most people would probably miss their phones or internet or TV. I think I would miss nothing too much. Since my paycheck is intertwined with punching in to work and using a computer for my job as well as my employer's Doctor's office being dependent upon electric to run diagnostic machines, I would miss electricity and my pay lost due to not being able to work. I wouldn't be able to apply for unemployment either if there was a longer outage...like for weeks or months at a time. I don't get paid time off either. Since money is mostly virtual, relying on power to exist and for the exchange of cash money maybe it won't matter and will be abolished all together. I could exist on a cash economy, but the rest of the world can't even count back change even when the computer tells them how much change to give!

Your lottery ticket comment made me laugh, thank you! And all of your points about our current work environments and access to money being dependent on power are spot on. Lots to think about and plan for. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

We use small portable solar chargers to keep our phones and iPads charged in power outages! But I agree!!!
