I remember on a family roadtrip when I was about 10 we drove this road. I still remember the spectacular views. On the way to the top, in a canyon, on the other side we saw Bighorn sheep fighting. We could hear the crashing of their horns from across the canyon.
I'm 83 now, that memory has stayed with me. What a wonderful trip you are having and sharing with us. Thank you AK.

Thankyou so much AK, the scenery was breath taking and the wildlife in fullforce with autumn approaching . You live in an amazing country with so many natural wonders the Rockies is definitely a tourist mecca. I hope you felt better after that scary experience of altitude sickness but it's important to know if visiting the region. This is a good reminder of how easy that sickness could effect your driving and or a persons life without a lack of oxygen. Take care 🙂

My first post on Instagram was 2009 in Denver! It was hilarious we drove up to the top just like you but then we wanted to have lunch and open our liter of Pepsi but it was sealed tight! (The high-altitude is no joke as you found out) 😂 We tried stabbing at with a pen and anything we had but nothing worked for 2 hours till we got down the mountain! Lol
Hi Action Kid, You should have taken the road to the to top of Mt. Evans. It is the highest paved road in the U.S. I have done it twice and it is a spectacular drive to the top. The Mount Evans Scenic Byway climbs over 7,000 feet in its 28-mile length, reaching an altitude of 14,130' feet. Idaho Springs serves as the starting point to the byway, which is the highest paved road in North America! This drive offers visitors scenic views of the Continental Divide, mountain goat and bighorn sheep herds, marmots, birds and apline wildflowers, and the Rocky Mountain Bristlecone Pine trees. The Mount Evans Recreation Area offers easy access to Colorado’s inspiring high mountain environment. Take a short walk to the top of your first 14er! Overlook spectacular views of distant mountain peaks, alpine lakes and glacier valleys! Walk amongst the oldest living organisms on earth! A drive to the top of Mount Evans will take your breath away, in more ways than one!

Nice video. But you were not on highest paved road in continental US. You were nearby to the road to the summit of Mt. Evans where can drive on paved road to 14,130 ft ASL.
I'm confused. Did you drive your car up and then down the mountain yourself? Because it seems kind of risky holding your camera while driving along that narrow mountain road.
