Loved my 2 visits to Porto. (Both taken on the shoulder season, so I missed this holiday. )
People are very kind, the food is good, and prices (ar least for Americans) are reasonable.
The crowds you show make me feel claustrophobic!

Thank you for sharing the many summer activities to enjoy in Portugal. It is admirable that you have a good work life balance. And it seems you live below your means so you are not burdened by consumer debt. You are a wise beyond your years. You have my admiration.

I am happy you had a great time…I was stressed just seeing all those people and the noise…😅 people look really friendly though. Looks like you did quite a bit of trekking up in Lousa’s mountains. View was really pretty and that mill in the middle of what looks like nowhere is interesting. Wonder what they would have milled there when it is surrounded by mountains. Thanks for sharing a bit of your life in Portugal. Looking forward to seeing you work on your house. In the meantime, have fun during summer vacation.

I wondered that too. There are terraced fields around the villages so maybe they grew wheat and/or barley?

I was able to see and take part in a few festivals when I was in the USAF in Japan and Germany. As a kid, my dad was stationed in the UK for Queen Elizabeth II's Silver Jubilee and I still have a few souvenirs from it including a Bible and a ceremonial coin. Really neat that Portugal has their own celebration on July 4th. Thanks for sharing...

Thank you JD, that was very interesting content, such a variety. Enjoyed the festivals, scenery and especially stone structures and the mill - sad to think about the full, vibrant life they once had that is no more. Good to see the ones refurbished into B&Bs. Again thanks, great to see areas about a country I've never been to. Take care.

Our 4th of July fireworks went wild. Humidity caused one of the larger ones to fail to gain altitude. Down it came into the middle of the fireworks barge! Super large display in a super short time! Workers had to swim for it!😅😅

humm odd traditions.. hitting everyone in the head with hammers? where the heck does THAT come from?
and releasing burning items into the sky to randomly fly where ever in a country frigging hit by severe wildfires every year? that doesn't look very intelligent at all?
but nice to see people enjoy the festivities and such

Porto is in the north and on the coast so its pretty wet, the fires (and dry areas) are usually in the interior and south...but it is still surprising they dont start any fires
