  • Take the classic teen stereotypes, like those in The Breakfast Club, add a serious dose of the 1990s, mix in a potential alien invasion, a bunch of somewhat familiar names about to hit it big on screen, and a memorable alt-rock soundtrack. What do you get? Well, you get a weird sub-genre of films from the late 1990s, but in particular, you get The Faculty. So let's jump into WTF Happened To This Horror Movie?
WATCH OR OWN THE FILM HERE: bit.ly/3JOmAcv
    Written by Emilie Black
    Narrated by Jason Hewlett
    Edited by Jamie Vasquez
Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon
    Executive Producer by Berge Garabedian
SERIES SYNOPSIS: Hollywood has had its fair share of historically troubled productions. Whether it was casting changes, actor deaths, fired directors, in-production rewrites, constant delays, budget cuts or studio edits, these films had every intention to be a blockbuster but were beset with unforeseen disasters. Sometimes huge hits, sometimes box office bombs. Either way, we have to ask: What Happened To This Horror Movie?

The 80s teenagers had John Hughes, and the 90s teenagers had Wes Craven, and all these weird movies, but it was still the same sense of high school bonding… same spirit manifested in two different decades and genres…. Scream really was the breakfast club of the 90s, and the faculty definitely had breakfast club vibes.

Craven is a bad example... because he had a HUGE impact in the horror movies on both decades... I would argue that his influence in horror movies go as far as the 70's with movies like the "Hills have Eyes" or "Last house on the Left"... For me , he's best movie is still "A nightmare on elm steet"...
And, i do get your opinion on the breakfast club kind of vibe, but i think you can go back to the first "Friday the 13th" and have the same kind of relationship between the characters... But still, there is that ONE movie that had a major influence on the Scream series... Black Chrismas... the phonecalls with creepy voices, the same kind of "breakfast club vibe" between the characters, the "who is de murder" question in the air... And in my opinion, Craven was a huge fan of the movie... because the character played by John Saxon in that movie, is almost the same as the character that he played on "Nightmare on Elm Steet"...

    • @jeremysiron9622

@@abobeleiranilton that’s all irrelevant, I’m saying, he came through and made the movie that was the equivalent to the breakfast club and yes, Kevin shout out to Kevin, I never said he didn’t have influence in another decades, but I’m saying our 90’s horror movies were the equivalent to the romcoms in the TV genre of the 80s…. it was the most popular teen genre….. the fact that Craven had influence outside of the decade is irrelevant because I’m only talking about that late 90’s movement…. just like it wouldn’t take away from John Hughes if John Hughes had a string of hits another genre is of the 70s that wouldn’t take away from John Hughes 80s

One of my favorite sci-fi movies. So many callbacks to the classics. The cast, the soundtrack, it's all perfect. And I love the paranoia. The idea that anyone could be infected and you can't fully trust anyone. A lot like The Thing. And of course it's self aware, coming from Kevin. These characters have seen or heard of The Thing, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, just like the audience has. Having to go by movies and books to try and figure out how to kill the aliens. Awesome. I think I'll watch this movie tonight. It's been a while.

There's just something about it, or maybe it's due to the fact that we all saw it during a certain time/age in our lives and whether consciously or subconsciously, it brings back those memories of when we were 14-18 (whatever age we saw it at?)?

1st rated R movie I saw in theaters! I've always loved it, even before I actually saw it. Based on the trailer, and who was involved I was confident that I wouldn't be disappointed, and I certainly wasn't. This cast was impressive even then, at least to me. I was mostly in it for Hartnett, who I recognized from H20, which I may or may not have seen at that point depending on whether or not it had hit video stores, but regardless I had wanted to see both movies, and he was in both of them, so I was sold on him just for that. I of course also knew Wood from a lot of stuff, but the rest of the younger cast were introduced to me through The Faculty, instantly making me a fan of them all. I'm glad they've all achieved the level of success that they have, even if some took longer than others. For years this was my favorite movie, so even 25 years removed from the 13 year old who initially loved it, The Faculty will always have a special place in my heart.

The opening scene/kill of this movie is so iconic yet so underrated. The fast cuts, good acting, violence, and tense music/sound effects contribute to a really unsettling feeling. Not to mention such a stellar performance from horror icon PL. The best part is the violence is implied more than it’s shown; it’s very Hitchcockian. This scene is definitely an homage to the shower sequence in psycho. They’re very similar. The movie overall still holds up today even if it’s a bit 90’s.
I don’t think it should be remade.

Theres a game that reminds me of this called "Obscure" and "Obscure 2" that you should try out, its like resident evil but with this high school setting and cast of different characters.
The faculty still feels quite fresh (crawling head aside), the production and style of it is perfect and very re-watchable today.. in fact, especially today where films and tv try to capture this setting and the references and things like that, so watching it again it doesnt feel dated at all.
I am glad that they havent dare try to remake this. However id love to see a Netflix series of it, perhaps bring some of the cast as cameo parents or whatever, expand the lore a bit.

One of the craziest things I first noticed about this movie was USHERS “Lineup” or lack there of in the movie poster and the movie itself. His barber did him dirty that hairline and side burns combo was nuts😂😂😂still one of my favorite movie tho cause it had a bunch of familiar up and comers who became stars.

this movie is amazing, feels like a sci fi Scream, same aesthetic and the whole cast is interesting, you can clearly see the inspiration of other movies in it, the CGI holds up in my opinion, if a movie is good, visual effects are something you can ignore

The cgi is fine,it doesn’t have to be perfect in a film like this.In fact it’s way better than some much more recent ones like some of the effects in the remake of The Thing.

I always have loved this movie as a kid. And now as a Adult I appreciate it more. I think that it's Brilliant the way they bring in the old style of Invasion of the Body Snatchers into the then modern high school element. It's a fun movie I enjoy watching every now and then. I think there was suppose to be a follow up like the scream movies but it wasn't as popular.

The Faculty would play out so differently anywhere else: in the American mid-west caffeinated-benedryl saves the day; but in Canada, or a Mexican Resort, the response would be defeated by an abundance of precipitation or an overabundance of respect for adults; allowing invaders more efficiency, or allowing those taken-over to have undeterred-reign over uninfected youngsters

Saw this when it came out and the opening scene with the ABITW cover set the tone perfectly. The John Hughes comparisons were fair but the kids in this film had an invisible layer of dirt that made them 'unwashed' realistic characters.

I remember I bought this film at a flea market (original film) and it was the only copy available that day. No better investment I think I ever made as a kid. 😂
The Faculty had a PHENOMENAL cast who later were cast in major films. I loved that a plot twist was expected, yet the film managed to fool me as to who was the leader of the aliens (keeping it spoiler free in case people reading this comment they haven’t).
