Fair enough Lee that’s your opinion. These are all very good horses in this field and he had one run in a year before this and they finished miles clear of the rest! Many clouds died to beat thistlecrack!!

I'd put him in the ryanair he would dance it over that trip. I just think saying he is the best horse in that field is a very brave thing to say given the strength n depth of the field. Native river is the current champ and Kempton is not a track that would ever play to his strengths where as it suits Thistlecracks style of running.

Thistlecrack was injured I think you will find at end of the many clouds race.. Thistlecrack is the best Horse in that field by a long way.. And someone else hit the nail on the head.. Thistlecrack loses many lengths in the air.. He's Clever now.. He's looking after himself.. He probably knows a bullet awaits him if he gets badly injured jumping a fence.. In the 2016 King George Thistlecrack was fearless.. He put in two of the Greatest Leaps I have ever seen in that race..
i knew thistle-crack gonna win , i had him on each way BUT i also knew the ground is sticky a bit, i was 1000% sure might bite was not going to win as he is on the way down, unlucky for B HUGES as waiting patiently was travelling really well the time he fell, he cud have win the race
ABDUL DEAY15 I knew might bite had no chance, also knew native river had no chance on that track even tho he’s the best horse in the race for he gold cup, was between thistle crack and waiting patiently for me and none of them won so I’m not much better to be Honestly i didn’t give clan des much chance either and he won
Quite an unsatisfactory race imho: Might Bite - looks a shadow of the horse he has been for the past 2 years. His tank looks to be running on empty now. Native River - on that course and on that going needs at least another half a mile to be competitive. He had a nice spin round. Politologue - was never going to stay 3 miles in that company. So with Bristol De Mai's fall and Waiting Patiently being brought down I don't think it was much of a race and no doubt the Irish will be rubbing their hands looking at that.

Think might bite needs to drop down in distance,he dont have the stamina anymore after the gold cup and wont stay up the hill at cheltenham over 3m 2f ,could be worth a crack at 2m buut doubt it with the trainer having his 2m star already
@@rosserman2501 100% agree and came out two weeks later to win at aintree,think it has messed his stamina up and when needed now he has none,he still has the class as he is with them right up to the final couple of fences so he will need to drop down in trip to cope with that,no shame in it at all as seen many do it
Might Bite bled - don't write him off yet! His trainer is peerless at bringing them back - remember the Sprinter Sacre story? Native River completely unsuited by the sharp, flat track and the ferocious pace. I agree about him being Britain's best chance in the GC - he needs a proper test of stamina to see him at his best. Great race though!
Exactly, I would love to see him run against this sort of competition again to prove to us what he can do, he's still got big things for him in the future
I'd a chunk of one of my favs Native River that day... I was very disappointed with him at the time. Considering where he was 3 out and how he was going, he actually finished strongly to close the gap and finish 3rd. I won't write him off over this. I think he can come again.
Some people say this was a fluke. Well just look at his Ascot Denman chase after the King George. That should tell you all that Clan des Obeaux ain't no fluke and you'd be stupid to not pile your mortgage on at 9/2 in the gold cup especially with nicholls's record in the race.

As Kempton is a flat track, I will be very surprised if the winners at Kempton today will be involved in the finishes of the principal races at the Cheltenhan Festival in March, where stamina will be the deciding factor.

Not much comes from behind after the last bend but we see at Cheltenham all the time that things change from 2 out to the line
Long Run was the last in 2010/11 to achieve both the King George and the Cheltenham Gold Cup. That season was a winter of discontent as the Boxing Day fixture moved to mid January, same day as the Lanzarote Hurdle.
1 - Great to see Coneygree run a good race, in a big race! Would like to see him retired. 2 - Race tells more about who can’t win rather than who might win the Gold Cup. Presenting Percy connections should feel confident. 3 - Brian Hughes had an absolutely atrocious position on Waiting Patiently - the most likely 2019 Gold Cup winner in this lineup imo. He doesn’t deserve the ride at Cheltenham, although positioning won’t be as important as it was here, so it wouldn’t surprise me if he wins it. 4 - Might Bite is done. 5 - This will be Clan Des Obeax’s finest hour.
I agree with all you said. BUT as Might Bite will not run before Cheltenham I would be very cautious if any one can get him back it will Henderson, cleary not the same horse as last year though and his age against him?
old65rocker I had a truck load on him in the Betfair Chase. Was enraged when he went out like a light. I feel strongly that trainers should have more of a duty of care to punters, and Henderson shouldn’t have suggested that he was in flying form when he was clearly not himself. I just don’t think he’ll ever get back to his best. Sprinter Sacre had breathing problems for example, but Might Bite doesn’t have apparent excuses, he’s just flat. This happens often to horses after gruelling Gold Cup slugs. Looking at previous winners even, Long Run, Don Cossack, Bobs Worth, Lord Windermere, Coneygree... it’s the bittersweet nature of the race that a horse’s finest hour often brings about their downfall. Native River ensured Might Bite had to battle every yard of that race. Native River has a more hardy profile he could come again. I just think Might Bite is done.
Thats a good point mate. I dont back horses anymore not since the great days of Ken Oliver and Barry Brogan. I think you have to remember Henderson would not have been aware there was a problem until the race itself. Also horses are not machines. I would be the first to say he will struggle to be Champion Trainer this season for sure. But he does a cluster of youngsters coming along good backing hope u back plenty of winners
I just had a tenner on him I was lucky cause I got 20-1 at 3 min before the off and then return 12-1...I remember his haydock win last year only reason I had any interest.
Native river has only finished out of the top 3 in 3 races in his whole career he's a machine if he uses the same tactics as last year in the gold cup nothing will beat it

Buveur D'Air just touched out in the Christmas Hurdle suggests to me that the Champion Hurdle 2019 race is wide open. Read somewhere that Istabraq was beaten by Limestone Lad in Ireland one season but that did not stop Istabraq from winning a third Champion Hurdle despite the setbacks. I wonder if that defeat will affect Buveur D'Air preparations for the Champion Hurdle as title holder as that horse goes for a three timer in succession.
I thought Thistlecrack had that easy coming round that last bend. CDO was being ridden at that point. All the others going backwards at the end. Great race though 👍
Nah it does make sense. Watch cobden closely - clan des obeaux was flat to the boards most of the second circuit but outstayed thistlecrack. Wanted every inch of the trip and only came back on the bridle when thistlecracks stamina started to give out - i think thistlecrack could well be more effective over 2 and half he travels so well
Bristol D Mai ruined the race, should have been pulled up, would have loved to see Waiting Patiently at the business end, but Brian Hughes should have seen that coming with the way BDM was racing and dropping behind, Hughes should be having a sleepless night over this
