My Mom had the wrap pants pattern late 60''s; she made full length large floral print. I made a Bermuda plaid mini-skirt length, so fun to wear. I had all those hairdo 's 😅
Hi Karen. Didn't like the sheath dresses in the 60s and stay away from them now. They don't go over my hips and the darts make fitting a mess. Plus sleeveless would be horrifying now that my arms are 70 years old along with the rest of me. I think Simplicity's pattern block back then must have been taken from a petite stewardess back when they fired you if you gained a pound. I'm so glad there are a variety of patterns now in sizes beyond toothpick-skinny, Antonia
I don't think I'm going to try the sheath dress pattern for a while, sounds like such a nuisance! I am tempted to try to put sleeves on the jiffy dress I made, but am struggling to figure out how because it attaches at the shoulders. I am sure glad patterns are more inclusive.
The only downside to many wrap patterns is that they are fabric hogs. I've had a wrap pants pattern for a while, but really don't want to use that much good fabric without knowing it will work. I'm thinking it needs to be pretty flowy like rayon??? I could be wrong. I need to find something at the thrift store for a trial run because I would cry if I wasted some of my beautiful rayon on a dud. I love your pattern choices. 9846 looks so fitted that I don't see it as being jiffy, but it sure would be lovely.
I have enough fabric from a mystery box I got a very long time ago to try the pants. Rayon would be perfect, but yes, I would be very sad if it didn't work out. I think I am going to try my scraps which are mostly polyester I believe. If I like the look, then I can move on to nicer fabric. I still haven't done a pair of pants I like. The patterns with all the darts scare me, not sure I'm ready for that challenge yet. But, at some point, I must challenge myself!
@@karenfrances Darts are so NOT scary! You can try your pants on inside out and just pin in the darts to fit you, if the darts that your pattern has marked don’t suit your body type. If you practice sewing darts on scrap fabric, you can get a good feel for how to taper to the tip. Most people are intimidated by the zipper insertion, but that’s also not really hard; it just takes a little practice because it’s multiple steps. I think a front fly zipper is way easier to sew than a centered zipper and even easier than a concealed zip. Fitting pants is always the hard part, though. I’ve been watching some of the videos on the top-down-center-out method of fitting and while I don’t need to use the whole method, I have found that just making larger seam allowances, especially on the top of the pants to accommodate fitting was a good idea for me until I figured out how my body deviates from the standard pattern. You are way too smart to bested by pants fitting. It’s mainly just adding fabric where there isn’t enough and eliminating fabric where there’s too much. And a lot of grief can be avoided by measuring the pattern itself at the waist, hips and thighs inside the seam allowances before cutting to make sure there is adequate width there. If I were a betting person, I would put money on you getting a better fitting pair of pants on your third try than the fit you get with RTW.
@@nadinewoods6971 That's exactly what I needed to hear! I need to put my scrap fabric to good use and try some darts and zippers and not concentrate too much on the pattern itself. I will research that fitting method you mentioned. I am so grateful for your coaching, you give wonderful advice! It all sounds so logical, i just need to spend some more time with my body and not so much with the patterns to understand how garments fit. Take care!
@@karenfrances They had me too scared to sew pants for years! I have zero doubt that you will do a great job. As long as you don’t expect perfection on the first try, you’ll sail right through the process.
You got a lot of fantastic patterns!❤️ they are so much fun to collect😆😂
They are! Thank you!

That's wonderful! Thanks for your comment.
Doreen swigart here would love to see the finished wrap pants and how you feel about them!
I never did finish those wrap pants, they just didn't fit. I may try again now that I am more experienced with upsizing patterns.
