"Invader Zim is an American animated science fiction dark comedy television series created by comic book writer and cartoonist Jhonen Vasquez for Nickelodeon. The series centers on an extraterrestrial named Zim , from the planet Irk, and his mission to conquer Earth and enslave the human race along with his malfunctioning robot servant GIR . He is antagonized by Dib , a young paranormal investigator who is determined to stop Zim from succeeding" (from Invader Zim Wikipedia). Кино
This one of the reasons I loved Invader Zim so much. The soundtrack was so dominating and imperial, it gave a lot of moments in the show some serious weight, even during some of the funnier moments of the show. You’d never expect a soundtrack like this to be in a children’s cartoon.
Well said Tanner. Credit to Jhonen for his musical direction and understanding how he wanted to use music in his show.
Iconic. From the moment that distant bed starts, followed by the almost jarring percussion, you knew this was a different kind of score for a different kind of show.
I didn’t know that at the time...
They really knocked it out of the park with this OST- it's not only different from basically any other animated show, there's really nothing quite like it on tv, period. That individual episodes even have their own little leitmotifs and stuff is such a difference from the "constant bombast" approach so many cartoons have with music
The first few seconds have this brilliant, alien ambience that takes me back to Half-Life 2.
Then the military march percussion kicks in and it gets even better.
Still as cool as I remember when I was a kid! LOVE THIS, THANK YOU FOR PUTTING IT UP!
Awesome! You are welcome.
Thanks so much for doing this Mr. Manthei
My pleasure!
I could wax poetic all day about all the absolutely perfect choices made in this score.
In the beginning, the percussion sounds include a sharp, militant radio static buzz reminiscent of comms, and metal clang sounds that bring to mind industrial and futuristic imagery.
The chanting voices carry the pseudo religious tones emphasize a feeling of self-aggrandizing fervor that is necessary to fuel cruel, colonial imperialism.
Brass shares the melody with the chanting voices, reminiscent of military fanfare.
The strings add suspense with their flourishes. It gives the entire piece a grand, expansive feel.
That synth sound coming in to add a bit comsic, alien flavor.
I could go on, and that's just the first piece.
Thank you for sparking my love for music that makes you not only feel an emotion, but also an entire *environment* around you. I feel utterly swallowed by this music, in the best way.
Bless you for posting the ZIMphony
We love your work 🧡
This is better than the Zimphony. It’s every single cue! :)
Is that what they call it?
@@KevinMantheiMusic Even better 👌
@@justinpollard2308 Yep! The whole show's soundtrack is called the Zimphony
@@afriendofepicproportions bet Zim would love that play on words!
I love listening to the music from invader zim it makes me smile 😀
you primed me to be an industrial music fan from such a young age because of invader zim. literally one of the most defining soundtracks of my childhood that still follows me to adulthood
Wow - I hope that was a good thing! :)
@@KevinMantheiMusic dont worry it absolutely is
Absolutely worth the wait! Here's hoping for more. 😉
Working on it!
Thank you for putting this up! I love it! The show and music still mean everything to me years later 🥰
Glad you enjoyed it!
*Galactic ConQuest Is here!*
I remember I first watched this ep and heard the cue for "our first chase" with its iconic and diverse percussion - knew right away that I was going to love this show's entire soundtrack. Thank you so much for posting all of these cues, Kevin! It’s so cool to see!
Cool!
It is so awesome to hear all the cues and in such fantastic quality; thank you so much for sharing this!
Thank you so much for releasing the full OST! Just the other day I was watching episode 1 and saying to myself, "I wish I could hear that little disguise bit on the official soundtrack". You granted my wish! Thank you!
You are welcome! So fun to hear your story. Its fun to release every cue in a suite format. I am going to be doing more videos soon from ZIM.
That's what I was looking forward to most with this. That and the part where the Tallest come down from the ceiling
Im gonna sleep and eat and do my homework with this music :D It's so epic and atmospheric, no one could make these soundtracks better than you.
Thanks so much, Kevin!
Wow thanks!! Hope you get all A’s!
Thx, I got motivation to try harder)
I wasn't expecting youtube to recommend me your channel, I didn't realize you had a channel for 1. This is an honor to find the creator who made the music for the show, the show changed my life greatly and just like it, your music inspires me so much. ♥ Keep up the amazing work man, def subbed. ♥ :)
This is so great!! Welcome and thanks for listening!!
@@KevinMantheiMusic You're very welcome. :) And of course! Thank you for creating wonderful music for the show and the movie itself. ♥ Truly a masterpiece.
Maaaan, I still have that old ZIMphony soundtrack and its so bizarre hearing these music cues in such great quality after so many years.
I'm surprised they haven't made the complete score and the Florpus soundtrack available to buy. You'd think they would want to make as much money as they could with Zim.
Thanks for doing this, it's a piece of art, i love it UwU ✨
Thank you!!!
Awesome ! Genius !!
*I love “Zims little Mistake!” Was so disappointed to not find it in other soundtracks of the show! **3:54*
great jumpin' jellybeans! how did i not see for two entire years that the official suite has been posted by the absolute myth himself
Heck yes!!!
7:52 Doom, such a genuine feeling of doom
Great, thanks for uploading!
Nice
Thanks!
I LOVE THIZ INVADER ZIM MUSIC 🥳!
I had a copy of the soundtrack in the early 2000's which I had downloaded onto my PSP from some torrenting site at the time which had an extended version of "in the beginning." it had an extended intro with a drum fill with some backgrounds synths and I've never managed to find it since then. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?
I wonder if someone else created this version via music editing. I uploaded the actual tracks from the show here.
its cool to hear this in higher quality after so long, thanks for uploading!
im trying to recreate some of the sounds of the instruments from zim's music, are the strings from a library or did you record those? also what's that harsh metallic sounding percussion thats all over the Zim music? its so emblematic of this series identity and i've been curious as hell for over a decade now
I should probably do a video on this someday. The strings came from the Roland Orchestral libraries that were around in the mid to late 1990's. I used the strings in my Roland S-760 sampler modules - but I still use some of those old sounds having converted them to Giga Studio and more recently to Kontakt format. I also had lots of other libraries and sounds coming from all sorts of places. The classic metallic clang came from a Roland library as well. I believe from the Roland Preview Disk or another - I always forget.
The other secret weapon was a library called DISTORTED REALITY and i used tons of that in ZIM. ZIM's distorted military march drums came from this library.
Invader Zim is my favorite show because the humor and the theme song and music my favorite line in S1 is dumb like a moose
always I listen this theme or march I imagine hundreds and hundreds of giant speakers around the world, so entire world can listen this. I like for example star wars one but this is so far, sososoSO FAR my darkest sci fi FAV MARCH EVER
So funny.
@@KevinMantheiMusic I love tragicomedy (?) and I'm being serious lol
goddamit i love this
also 5:50 is the most badass music of the show
🤘yes!
Did you have an orchestra doing the score? This is an amazing score. Oh how I would love to hear all of this life.
Its all synth and samples of orchestral instrument based. And its 20 years old so the fact that you think its real is a great compliment! Back then you had to pick and choose what instruments to load and be very selective. Today its much easier and there are tons of sample libraries to choose from.
@@KevinMantheiMusic wow this is so amazing. Thanks for letting me know.
1:54 the almighty tallests!!!
please uploade the other episodes too....pleeeeease
Hi Kevin!
I'm not sure if you can answer this or not. If you can't say, I completely understand!
Were you involved with composing any music for Blizzard? If not, it seems Blizzard's music team were definitely inspired by your style for the new Expansion.
Hmmm. Well I scored Starcraft Ghost but that got canceled.
*”Silence, TWIST THOSE KNOBS TWIST THOSE KNOBS YOU PULL SOME LEVERS PULL SOME LEVERS!!!”*
11:11 There you are. 😠
6:00 though ❤️❤️❤️
Kinda sounds like a more alien version of WALL-E's opening theme
4:45 ominous....
7:12
:D
i could say that is not so good, BUT IT WOULD BE A DIRTY LIE!
I could say something mean but I’ll say thanks. 😂
@@KevinMantheiMusic could say that the "is not so good" is a joke.bah is a joke xd
great show great soundtrack
