Man, something about this intro just gives an ancient vibe to it. Coming back to the ship you rode on after your long journey on the ring only to find it dark and corrupted by all sorts of evil.
It's sad to see my favorite UNSC ship crash like that,hard to believe some of the corridors and hallways and some of the structure collapsed when the ship slammed into the ground,but the music on this cutscene really gives the player a feel for the mood,like "Well,here she is,the final resting place of the Pillar of Autumn,too bad i have to detonate the fusion reactors to destroy the ring",but the way the ship is,it's similar to the position it was in on Reach on the final level where Noble 6 had to get the Package to Captain Keyes.
The odd thing is, the ship interior is in worse-a-shape during the evacuation in the first mission... they didn't care that they made cut ins on cliffs that you coudln't access, surely adding ripped hallways and gaps cosmetically wouldn't have been hard...
So,how did the middle section of the ship stay intact and how did the rear section stay intact along with the engines and reactor? I don't know if there were any survivors left on the ship when it crashed,but hard to believe some of the surviving crew actually hid in locked areas at the time the Covenant captured Keyes and the rest of the crew in the bridge.
jonathon strong Yeah, the ship has suffered a lot during the course of events on the ring, the covenant took over, marines returned to take supplies, and then the Flood tried to take over. The Covenant would have found people hiding away inside. my point was more along the lines of, in the mission "The Pillar of Autumn" in the New graphics, the hallways in some parts had broken walls and wires hanging down, with burn marks and stuff... in "The maw" those same hallways are fixed... less damage. shame they didn't put more effort into the look of dis-repair after a month of Covenant/Marine/Flood invasion.
+jonathon strong I only just realized that parallel a few minutes ago. The launch site and the crash site look very similar, what with a cliff, barren terrain, overcast sky..
Even with the beating the covenant gave her over Reach and Halo she still defiantly remained intact ready for one last action against the covenant and the flood, a toast to the horse we rode in on
I just watched a clip from the original cut scene and it looks as if there's water, then a coast line, then a desert. The animation wasn't as detailed back then; that's probably why it didn't look very much like water
I'm fairly certain that, in "The Flood", it said the Autumn landed in a desert/plateau type area, and when it hit the surface, it created a huge gash into the ground, bounced back into the air for a moment, and then hit again and skidded to a halt on top of that cliff. So I don't think it was originally a body of water.
EminentLine Yeah, but they don't show the damage in the ground on the other side, that could have been the final landing spot, it may have smashed into the surface miles further down, just hit water, slowed down and slid to the end.
@aegis027 No, I mean that 50mm Helix Point Defense Gun (like in Halo Reach campaign level Pillar Of Autumn). There's only one sitting on top of the Autumn. I know they salvaged it and used it on Alpha Base. Before being retrofitted, it had less than a few Archer Pods and a weaker MAC Gun, but afterwards, it has 26 archer pods (30-120 each I think), and a modified MAC Gun that can fire 3 shots, 2 Shiva Nukes (one disguised as a longsword), 4 FURY Tac Nukes
@CReACox The original version had water in it, this just made it much more apparent. And yes, there's plenty of beach/desert's in real life right next to each other...
I'm no expert, but I think the POA had one main MAC gun in the belly of it to deal with ship-to-ship, a few archer pods, and several AA batterys. That's what I remember anyways.
I'm not a big fan of the anniversary graphics because it doesn't have the same vibe as the original the anniversary music sounds like it was recorded with someone recording people singing the song

It was a beach in the original. The graphics at the time didn't do the water much justice however. It totally looked like desert.
I mean this scene is probably one of the few things this remaster did not butcher and actually made it look pretty good.

I gotta say, despite not changing the physics engine, 343 really upped the graphics for this game. They did damn good.
I know Anniversary cops a lot of shit. but you've got to admit that the anniversary Pillar of Autumn looks like a sexy beast

Yeah it was heavily upgraded/retrofitted. Pretty serious armaments for a relatively small cruiser.
In the original game there was water, but the sun was supposed to be reflecting off of the water, but it made it look like sand.
wasn't there suppose to have one Ship-to-ship Gun on top of the Autumn? Or was that the gun they salvaged from the Halo The Flood book? o.o
