    I have in mind a project for my room but here's the deal....
    I have an echo dot and I want my room to be smart and I want to use the hue lights but the wifi router is not in my room, the router its next to my room would the lights work if i leave the hue bridge in the other room? The rooms are literally next to each other

    • @SmarQT
      @SmarQT  4 года назад +3

      Yes, this should work. You can have up to 10 meters indoors between the hue bridge and the first hue light. So if you say the rooms are next to each other then I don't see a problem... I personally also have my bridge in another room and there are even two walls between the bridge and the first light. Everything works fine.

      Hi, do you mean the lights representing the "globe" icon and the "network connection" icon ? If both lights are out, then the network connection is not good. Check if one side of the network cable is firmly plugged into a free port of your wifi router and the other side is firmly plugged into the port of the hue bridge. If this is ok and the lights still don't work, try restarting (power off and power on) your wifi router and hue bridge. I hope this helps.

    Hi SmarQT, very nice video, I have a question maybe you can help me.
    I want to make my house a smart house starting by my babys room, I do use only apple products and I would like to stay that way.
    Does the Bridge link to the Homepod and receive commands from Siri? Thank you

    • @SmarQT
      @SmarQT  4 года назад +2

      Hi Antonio Rubio, Thank you!
      Yes, the bridge connects to apple products. You can find the homekit code on the bottom of the bridge. With the "Home" app you can then start adding the lights etc... and additional automation with the homepod.
      I hope to do some videos about the Hue integration with Apple in the near future.

    I have more than one access point at my house. And they are all connected via switch. Does the bridge have to be close to my Philips light bulbs or i can just plug it in a server room (isolated room far from my devices) and as long as there is WiFi in the house i can connect my devices through the network in the house? Thank you

    • @SmarQT
      @SmarQT  5 лет назад +2

      You will be able to control the devices from anywhere in the house where the access points provide wifi coverage. But the bridge needs to be installed within 10 meters from the first device. Between the first and the second device again a maximum of 10 meters distance, and so on... The ZigBee network is a mesh network, meaning that the communication is passed on from one device to another within range until it reaches its destination.

      SmarQT - Technology and Smart Home
      Thank you very much for your reply, if the product is placed away more than 10 meters, how can i extend the range? Do i need to buy another bridge or is there another cheaper option?

    • @SmarQT
      @SmarQT  5 лет назад +1

      You're welcome! A second bridge can probably help, but this doesn't bring additional benefits since you can only control 1 bridge at a time in the hue app. As I see it, the easiest way to extend the network is by placing smart plugs, they make your power socket smart 🙂 and they are not so expensive => amzn.to/2P4zFRH
      Light bulbs or fixtures are also good alternatives.

    Can I order a network cable online ? Also my dorm has wireless internet would I still need a router ?

    • @SmarQT
      @SmarQT  4 года назад +2

      Yes, you can buy network patch cables online. Maybe search on amazon or your preferred webshop that sells electronics.
      As for the router, you don't need the router in your dorm itself, but the bridge needs to be connected somehow to one of the wired ports of the router. Furthermore, the app then needs to be connected to the wifi of this router and make sure that the wired network and wifi are the same networks.
      Personally, I guess for a dorm it is better to look for the hue appliances that connect via Bluetooth with the smartphone.

      No, the philips hue app should connect automatically with the bridge when you start the app. For access to the bridge when outside the home you first have to create a philips hue account via the settings menu in the app.

    • @SmarQT

      No, if you have devices within 10 meters range of each other you will not need extra bridges. The ZigBee network is a mesh network, meaning that the communication is passed on from one device to another within range until it reaches its destination.
      If you would reach the maximum number of devices, then a new bridge needs to be added...

    Hey!
    I am trying to setup my Hue Bridge with my new iPhone, but when I try to connect the Hue Bridge with my phone (thorugh Philips Hue App), it says "Connect" insted of "Set Up". I tried to press on the Connect button and then press the Push-Link button on the Bridge, but nothing happens. Is this becuase I have previously used another phone? How do I changed it from "Connect" to "Set Up" again, I cant find any answars on the internet :( When I used my older phone, it all worked well! Thank you for helping :)

    • @SmarQT
      @SmarQT  4 года назад +1

      Hi, if nothing works to get the bridge connected, then you can always delete the app completely from your phone and install again. Now it should guide you to the setup process as if it was your first time use. If this doesn't work, delete the app again, also reset the hue bridge to factory settings (small button at the bottom of the hue bridge) and start over with the initial setup.

During the update required in the app, before i click the “update button”, can i temporarily switch to my mobile internet and will it pick up the updates then once done, switch back to the wifi network?

    • @SmarQT
      @SmarQT  4 года назад +2

      Update of the bridge or any of the hue devices is only possible through the wired Lan connection. Mobile internet connection of your smartphone will not work. if you think the home router is the problem (eg: if there is no internet available for your other wifi devices), then a possibility is using your mobile data connection (sim card) in a mobile data router with LAN network ports.

    • @SmarQT
      @SmarQT  5 лет назад +1

      The connection normally is ready after a minute or 2. If the blue led of the network connection is not on, then I assume the bridge is not connecting with your home network router (Note: the bridge only connects through cable with the router (LAN), not wireless). A first test can be to power off both bridge and network router, check if all cables are connected, then power-on the router again, wait 5 minutes and then power-on the bridge again.
      I hope this helps.

    • @SmarQT
      @SmarQT  5 лет назад +1

      The blue light in the circle represents the zigbee communication. If it is not on, then this means the connection with the lights will not work. Try powering-up the bridge again to see if it works now, if not try restoring factory settings => press a small button on the bottom of the bridge. If this doesn't solve the problem then i guess there is something wrong with the bridge and I would advice to return it to the shop for a replacement...

    Can Hue Bridge work with Offline (no internet) Wifi Router? I want to buy it but I can only establish offline wifi connection thru old router, I am using hotspot as my main internet connection. Please help me

    • @SmarQT
      @SmarQT  5 лет назад +2

      In theory, this should work since the bridge and hue app only use the internal home network for communicating with each other. But, when you install the bridge for the first time, it is almost sure that a firmware update is required... This update, however, is carried out via an active internet connection... Your phone won't be able to provide internet connectivity since it is connected to your offline home wifi router.
      So you will need to find a way to configure the bridge and app for the first time with an active internet connection, and then afterward, when all devices have the latest software/firmware updates, the internet connection is not required anymore.
      I think the easiest way is replacing your old router with a Mobile Network Router where you can insert your SIM card only when needed... (Here is an example: amzn.to/394EJx7 )

    • @SmarQT

      You only need to connect the power supply of the hue lamp to the electricity. The hue lamp connects wireless to the hue bridge. Switching the light on and off is then done with the mobile app, or with a wireless hue switch or dimmer.

    I stay at a student accommodation. Will this work for the WiFi router provided in my room, that has a login page to connect to the internet?
    For eg. My Google home couldn't connect as their WiFi has a login page to connect to the internet. So I found a workaround. I had to sign in from my laptop then turn my laptop as a hotspot ( no login page needed to get to the internet via this method ) and then connect my Google home to this hotspot for getting it connected to the Internet.

    • @SmarQT
      @SmarQT  4 года назад +2

      Hi Sh4unify, this will indeed be difficult. The problem is that the bridge needs a network cable to connect (so not via wifi)... What you could do is the following: ask the person responsible for the accommodation if it is possible to add one port of the wifi router to the same VLAN as the one required for the internet with the login page. In this case it should work, but you will always first need to login via the specific page before you use the philips app... Another option is using the bridge with lights and hue switches but without the app. You don't need the internet for this and it will work. Personally the best option for you I think is to look for the hue bulbs and fixtures with bluetooth functionality => in this case you directly use the app with the fixtures via bluetooth, you just need to be within range. I hope this helps you a little bit further?
