    In this video I show how to use the myVW app and I compare it to another EV companion app.
    There is a route planner in the app but it does not work. I excluded this from the video. When it works I provide an update!

    Totally agree! It saddens me paying so much for a supposedly modern electric vehicle but they cant put together a very up to date app. 😓

    Hey, I've just started watching your videos recently as I bought an ID4 last weekend. Well I bought it but don't have a car yet. Anyway, this will be my 6th EV in past 3 years, which also included a Tesla model y, and ioniq 5, a Genesis gv60, a Chevy bolt, a Polestar 2 and a Chevy bolt. I will regrettably trading in my Polestar for this ID4 so I hope I like the be as much as you do. I LOOOOOOOVE my Polestar , it is by far my favorite EV I've owned but the ID4 will make better sense for us ATM. By the way my least favorite EV has been my Tesla. The Tesla app is by far the best but the car lacks many features that should be standard in any car that's not an econobox. Ya you heard me right, the Tesla is missing tons of stuff? Everyone talks about what it has but NO ONE on line talks about what it doesn't have.
    Best apps that I've had in order
    Tesla
    Hyundai/genesis
    Chevy
    Polestar (sucks probably as bad or worse than VW by the looks of it)
    VW
    Favorite cars in order(price no object)
    Polestar
    Genesis
    Hyundai
    Bolt
    Tesla
    Price an object
    Polestar
    Bolt
    Genesis
    Hyundai
    Tesla
    Anyway I enjoy your videos as you seem to be enthusiastic about your ID4 without being fanboi and you seem like a good guy too. I'm subscribing.

      Thanks for the comment! I think you will definitely enjoy the ride quality and drive characteristics. Naturally it won’t be as good performance-wise as your Polestar, but I think you will like. The updated PS2 looks pretty great! But definitely not the best for a family situation.
      The VW app is underwhelming so get ready. They did just update it aesthetically, but added no useful functionality. I really wish doors could be locked and unlocked from the app. Even my old Kona Electric could do that. Let me know if you have any questions! Would love to hear what software yours has, as it seems they are shipping with 3.5.
      Thanks again for watching!

    2022 Tesla model 3 owner here. Before buying a model Y I thought I would check out the competition. ID4 looks like an OK product but there are too many features with Tesla that we’ve grown to like and that aren’t found in the VW.

  • @H3erobrineNotch

    I had a reservation for an id 4 and instead got a model y. Tesla’s app is unrivaled, it’s flawless.

    • @theaverageev
      @theaverageev  Год назад +2

      I mean… yeah? Tesla dominates with software. I have driven Model S and Model 3. The software is beautiful and “just works.” Model Y was out of our price range. I also don’t love how Teslas drive, the build quality, ride quality, and wind noise. ID.4 is a smooth drive, well built, floats when it rides, and is very quiet inside.
      Teslas are great cars for sure, just not for my wife and I! My brother loves Teslas on the other hand! Glad you are enjoying your new car! Congratulations!

      @@theaverageevbut Model Y is just about 50k now, slightly more expensive than Pro S. I am also choosing between MY and ID4

      @theaverageev  Год назад +1

      @@tomjiang6831 I would try and test drive each. You’ll see what I mean about ride and build quality. If you plan on road-tripping it’s hard to not recommend model y because of the charging network.

    Software is definitely lacking for id4. Does more than my 2014 Prius did. So it’s pretty cool to me. Mostly just use the climate function.

    Still this is a very big improvement from the old versions it was even worse 3 years ago. Sad to see that progress is so slow.. But Tesla is still years ahead of the rest.

    Hey averageEVguy, nice work. Can you set and adjust charging timers with your app. I do like the SOC target adjustment and the amperage adjustment from the app. Strange that you can get into that granularity and then whiff on the basics like door locking. What about Nav planning? Nice video.

    • @theaverageev
      @theaverageev  Год назад +1

      Thanks!
      Unfortunately you cannot adjust charging timers, all of that needs to be done in the car. No Nav planning in the the app! I have an infotainment coming soon that will go over all of those features. I recorded it, but decided to rerecord, so just need to do that and it will be up!

    Bummer. I just went from a 2021 Kona EV to a 2023 ID4 and have to say that the Hyundai MyLink app had way more functions! I loved being able to lock/unlock the doors among other things. I’m shocked the VW app is so basic that it’s kinda useless!

    • @theaverageev
      @theaverageev  7 месяцев назад +1

      It is totally useless! The worst part is you can unlock the doors and other features on some ICE VE models. So I’m not sure as to why they didn’t do this for the ID.4…

    Having an Ioniq we were used to the slow, but usually working Hyundai app. we now purchased an additional EV - the Id.4 and when looking in their app preview, it seem to be a nice app. But once it is connected it is really of low quality. For the Ioniq all you do is to "register it once". After that it is just the matter of logging in on the phone and you can actually share the app with all its functions. The VW app is useless, tbh, unless you like to know if it is open or if it charges, one really can DO nothing.

  • @robertt1336
    @robertt1336 Год назад +2

    I heard the Chattanooga builds will have V2L or V2G hardware built in… but haven’t heard any details about hardware or plans to unlock in future. With how VW has struggled with software, & has required cars come into the shop/cancelled some appointments for “over the air” updates, do you think this is likely to ever occur?

    • @theaverageev
      @theaverageev  Год назад +2

      At this point… who knows. The last I heard was from the former CEO. Based on what he said it seemed to just be a software thing that would come with an OTA update. I’m hoping V2H and Battery Preconditioning come in the same update. The update after 3.1 is likely to happen after all IDs are on 3.1 and can receive OTAs. I will report any news when it/if it happens!

    The latest version of the MyVW app (2023.11.2-1) has taken a step backward. The worst is that it no longer shows whether the car is locked or unlocked. And "Battery settings" is now hidden under a sub-menu. Not sure if this is new, but I have to log in every time =, even though I have "keep me logged in" set. Sigh! As you said, great car but lousy app.

    Tesla is the best app and the one for my Fiat was the worst by far. It never worked at all. They eventually decided it was only for the original owner and as second owner I was SoL , but that was a 2013 car that Fiat only made because California forced them to

    On a tangential topic…primary user in the car. I bought my ID.4 a couple weeks ago. I am unable to set the primary user. When I try to log in, I get “Connecting to Volkswagen ID. Please wait…”. It never connects. I did have the dealer remotely set up the MyVW app, which connects to the car and displays info. Also, the green light by the SOS button is on, I get 5 bars of 4G, and the globe is white (online). Yet, it won’t connect to Volkswagen ID, which I think is the car-net portal. Any thoughts?

    • @theaverageev

      @@theaverageev that’s the thing…it never goes to the QR code screen…it gets hung up on the connecting screen. So far no VW personnel know how to help. Dealership service, car-net nor VW customer care. I’m hoping a ID.4 owner who had the problem and resolved it might help. BTW, it’s about the car connecting to car-net. I have the app set up and it connects to the car.

    Can the app show me where my car is parked? (I lost it in a big mall garage yesterday!)

    • @theaverageev
      @theaverageev  Год назад

      Yes it can! You go to the VW app and click the center button on the screen that looks like an arrow. Then you click the symbol in the top left that looks like a car with a crosshair over it. That will show the current location of your car!
