@@jamesdeer3129 "Tiefling shapeshifter" implies, to me at least, that Tieflings are not natural shapeshifters. If that was the case, they could've just said "Tiefling" with no need for shapeshifter. You're right, since Doric is a Variant Tiefling (given the mostly human appearance except the horns and tail), she is not a natural shapeshifter, neither are most Tieflings (except the Abyssal Tiefling, since they have the alter self spell, and Glasya Tieflings since they have disguise self). They don't have disguise self or other spells.
However, the original comment did not say that Tieflings were shapeshifters. They said "I'm inspired to make a Tiefling shapeshifter". If Doric was a human, that would inspire me to make a human shapeshifter. Doesn't mean humans can naturally shapeshift.

This is what a Wildshape class should be like. Not just a mage with shapeshifting powers on the side, but a class built entirely around Wildshaping into different forms, like Beastboy. Then you don't have to nerf either the Spellcasting or the Wildshape to balance a fullcaster with full martial capabilities.

This class exists in Pathfinder. It's basically the wild shape of a druid, the AC bonus of a monk, the attack bonus of a fighter and an assortment of other abilities to boost it's melee power.

I think what really made this movie was the timing of things. We're used to "comedic" timing pauses of two seconds between something happening and the thing being settled, which are so overused we just expect them everywhere, and it makes a movie feel.. cheap, relying on repetitive tropes to ramp up and ramp down tension over and over. This movie didnt stop to ramp up the fear when the owlbear looked the prisoner in the eye, or wait three seconds before dropping the rubble on the witch. It just did it. It caught us off guard, made us laugh more, and didnt make it feel like it leaned so much on the boring comedy tropes. Great film, clearly a lot of D&D love went into it

I loved Neeshka in NWN2. :) Not as much as Elanee (I have a thing for elf girls XD), but I swear, my favourite part of the entire campaign was the early levels when it was just me, Khelgar, Elanee and Neeshka adventuring around and being frenemies.

i started playing Dungeons and Dragons back in 1974 and owlbears were in the game from the early days but I didnt think much of them. This movie made me appreciate them

@@jamesdeer3129Wildshape is what druids use to take the form of a beast they have seen before. That’s what the players handbook says but, using the rule of cool and home brew stuff, it can be changed to better suit the player, the table, and the story.

That's why you only get a limited amount in the game, lol. She seems to be able to Wild Shape as much as she wants all the time. Also, owlbear is generally speaking not allowed as a Wild Shape, because it's not a beast, it's a monstrosity. At least in 5e.

Man, I love falcons. Once saw a peregrine take on a whole flock of seagulls with contemptuous ease.
The were trying to drive the peregrine off. Beating their wings hard to climb above it then diving down to attack. Time after time the peregrine just slightly adjusted its trim to avoid the diving seagulls, moving just enough that they never touched it. The falcon looked like it was making a game of it, circling back repeatedly, where the seagulls looked desperate and exhausted within a few minutes.
The falcon flew off eventually, having had its fun.

Totally a game changer
I played a campaign where I was a Tiefling Druid/Warlock/Wizard, and in order to block off a pathway temporarily, I chose to transform into a blue whale. When our party learned that we had to destroy the thing I was guarding, I then changed into a dragon to spiral up (like a snake) and come down from above with my mouth wide open. It was super fun! 😂

That’s awesome! I was a conjuration wizard who summoned a lot of creatures, like, all the time. To make it more fun, we decided that my body was covered in animal tattoos so that, whenever I summoned a creature, the tattoo would come to life and leap out of my skin. I had a snake tattoo on my wrist which I used a lot, and being able to use conjuration spells like that was really fun. Love a little creative flare!

We have her stat block aviable on dndbeyond. Her hp is 104 (16d8+32) with a constitution of 14 (+2). That would mean 16 dice roll and the constitution modifier 16 times so she is level 17.
@@jamesdeer3129Doric is a Druid. Druids have access to wildshape, which lets them take the form of a beast they have seen before. Also, in Dungeons and Dragons, polymorph, true polymorph, and shapechange (the main shapeshifting spells) require you to reach certain levels before being able to use them.

I'm not well versed in D&D abilities. What are the limits to wild shape like? Can you literally transform into anything as long as you're powerful enough for it?

You can only turn into animal on normal druid
You can get a bigger form like 4 elementals from Avatar with a certain subclass
Owlbear is only an animal, fey specifically, in that setting called Forgotten Realms, they’re monster otherwise, the experimental

Actually, they are correct on that point. Do you know what happen when a deer or any animals with hooves running on a hard pavement? It is slippery as hell.

Also... being able to wild shape into a deer, that thinks like a Tiefling and runs on stone... that is going to be clunky. All the other animals she turned into moved more or less in their natural environment.

Supposedly in 5th Ed your choice which Druidic Circle you join alters your kit and thus your abilities. IIRC, there's one Circle (Circle of the Moon, maybe? I might be wrong) that gives increased daily uses of Wild Shape.
@@Zaxares That, and she showed no other spellcasting abilities, meaning she could've been any variant (homebrew or not) that focus more on Wildshape forgoing all other spellcasting abilities
Only an archdruid (level 20 druid) has unlimited uses of wild shape.
@@Captain_Tumbleweed However, DMs can change these kind of things, making a character an exception from the rule. She showed no other abilities a druid should have. So in exchange for all the other abilities she might get unlimited use of wild shape even at a lower level. Which is something a DM would actually fine with, since the loss of the other abilities prevent her from being too op and this kind of exchange happening in her past could be part of her background (there are quite a few options here that could make such a thing happen).
She is a level 17 and she only has 5 wildshape/day but she does have other other druid abilities and spellcasting.
