It removed the inhibitions of a Kryptonian. Clark didn’t feel the need to hide his powers or restrain his feelings. In early seasons he did what he wanted and was rude to his parents, later seasons it manifested through his emotional, specifically romantic, feelings which one time involved him crashing Lana and Lex’s rehearsal wedding dinner.

Gemstone kryptonite in Smallville gave Clark the power of hypnotic persuasion. With 1 command he compelled others and himself to do whatever he said and couldn't do another one for the same person, 1 shot per person. Only Green kryptonite could counter it all.
I loved the Gemstone Kryptonite. It was total nonsense of course but the episode regarding it was really good.

I remember watching the Krypto the Superdog cartoon when I was a kid and I recall the complete randomness of red kryptonite being used more frequently as a plot point than normal kryptonite. the one where it turned Krypto and his cat partner into fish is the first one that leaps to mind.
When it comes to comics i go variantcomics & comicstorin the only 2 that give me the facts & the actual comics references i need ^_^

Edit:Damn came back to this vid after 5 years, seing my comment almost at the top feels good ngl. Now looking back at me watching this vid in 2016 gave me a sort of nastolgia and made me realize that the shit you worry about today wont matter after 5 years, its easier set than done but a good thing to keep in mind

I like to think that was the first "black Kryptonite" or "synthetic black Kryptonite".
Based on the visuals, I’ve seen on pink kryptonite. I don’t think it turns Superman gay. It turns him into the opposite gender slowly, but surely, in some depictions. In a cartoon special, starring Superman and Firestorm; pink kryptonite, turned Superman into a woman instantly. Maybe depends on the dosage/exposure to it?

I sometimes see that it might also cause harm to Kryptonians? If that's true, then it is _definitely_ is good plot device.

While red kryponite did have a result of random effects in the comics, when it was used in the Smallville tv series it was made to be a material that consistently weakened the mind (especially inhibitions). And to my knowledge that version of red kryptonite is now the one that people like to default, for (what to me are) some pretty obvious reasons.
There was an issue of “Superboy” in the 50s or 60s in which the Phantom Zone criminals caused clouds of red and green kryptonite to combine which permanently erased Superboy’s powers, similar to gold kryptonite.
One other thing about Blue Krytponite...in an episode of the Super Friends from the 80's it was stated that Blue Kryptonite can reverse the effects of Red Kryptonite on super powered Krptonians. Superman had been exposed to Red Kryptonite and was aging at a rapid rate and the computer in the Hall of Justice told him that he could reverse the effects with Blue Kryptonite...which he did.
Wow. So... much... Kryptonite.

@antonhbp I recall a “what-if” issue of Superman from the late 60’s where he’s exposed to a stone with green, red, white, gold, blue K (all types at that point in time). He loses his superpowers and his memories as Superman, and lives as Clark Kent for several years until accidentally discovering his past.

I'm surprised Arris didn't say the commonly accepted effect of Red K in media outside of comics especially since he mentioned Smallville. It makes Kryptonians lose their inhibitions generally and even amplify their negative emotions.

Non canon but worth mentioning is Grey Kryptonite that appeared in a Fred Hembeck comic because color copying was expensive back then.

With my circle, I'm the comic expert. Compared to you, I know nothing. Thanks for being dedicated to these and making it so I can say "I'm not sure" and "I don't know" even less... and I can correct what I told them when I was wrong. This kryptonite thing is one of those bizarre things I was talking about with a coworker for years, especially the whole Bizarro's "kryptonite immunity" discussion. So, there is a form that hits him. They forgot to mention the kryptonite in Superman 3 where Gus Gorman was trying to create a man-made version and used tar for the unknown question mark. Had it made, gave to Superman and became the evil Superman.

I wouldn’t say black kryptonite splits good and evil, it splits the personality aspects of a Kryptonian between two forms, like Kirk in the Star Trek episode The Enemy Within. Kal wasn’t evil as much as he was indifferent to anything not involving his mission, and by exposing Kal to black kryptonite Martha was able to reassert the Clark Kent personality. It’s application to Davis/Doomsday highlights the Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde resemblance, where Davis and Doomsday were two separate personalities that became two separate physical forms because of black kryptonite.
So many different types of rocks coming from a supposed exploded planet from millions of light years away!
There's also The Batman Who Laughs' black kryptonite, which made Superman go insane, kill lois and die
I didn't know what year Superman Batman issue 49 was released, after research it was in 2008. This was 2 years after early season 5 of Smallville which also had Silver Kryptonite. It may be possible that Smallville re-sparked the Silver Kryptonite.
I don’t really know how people can dislike videos like this. Like, people are like “Argh, I hate kryptonite”
Silver Kryptonite also appeared in Smallville (in the episode Sliver, with Brainiac using it to try to turn Clark against everyone), as did Red Kryptonite, but it just removed his inhibitions and make him "evil" for a time. Gold Kryptonite also appeared on an episode of Smallville, where Arrow was brainwashed into trying to shoot Clark with an arrow from it. Blue Kryptonite appeared on Smallville and was said to remove Clark's powers temporarily. Blue Kryptonite also appeared in the Crisis on Two Earths cartoon movie, where it removed Ultraman's powers but didn't seem to affect Superman.
Yellow Kryptonite appeared in a comic where Lois (I think? It may have been Wonder Woman) was pregnant with Superman's child and Lex was threatening to expose her to it which would cause the child to become permanently human.
I notice that the color red makes super man violent which is also the same as the ring of hate lantern ring and that many of the lantern ring colors were in cryptonite form coincident I think not

I would have limited this list to Kryptonite that appeared in superman stories cause a bunch of them like the krypto comic and others i've never heard of and I know Superman's history backwards and forwards.
This is my tenth time watching the video. I love it! I do forget the different Kryptonites some times, and I came to again learn about Blue Kryptonite because in one of Superman's premier skin animation for Bizarro, the Green Kryptonite is replaced by Blue Kryptonite.

The red k's effect was changed for the TV shows to turning the kyptonian evil.
(Head canon)"Zero Kryptonite" = Neutralizes all other forms of kryptonite effects unless those effects are permanent effects like stripping powers or killing. It actually absorbs their radiation becoming more powerful, while releasing its own radiation that simply neutralizes the other Kryptonite, as long as that or those kryptonite's radiation is not stronger than the Zero-K's radiation.
While it is not by itself dangerous to anyone, other than growing hotter as it gains power, and actively disrupts any Kryptoians, powered or not, physiology if they come in physical contact with it, Zero-K can actually be used to produce significant amounts of anti-matter when exposed to physical shock, hit it with a hammer. This can result in an uncontrolled Matter Annihilation Reaction (MAR) which , in sufficient quantities, the Zero-K is powerful enough and the physical shock strong enough, can produce explosions into and well beyond human experience.
Zero-K is suspected in the destruction of Krypton when a wild vein of Zero-K was exposed to a relatively small shock after absorbing proto kryptonite (Proto-K), the precursor forms of all other Kryptonite that was in no way anymore dangerous than raw Uranium, for untold eons and was largely responsible for Krypton's core temperature. The MAR was totally unforeseen and uncontrollable causing a chain reaction that ultimately destroyed the planet.
Because of the enormous potential of Zero-K, Jor-el was torn between sharing his findings as a new source of power, and that it could be easily, too easily, used as a weapon. This lead to Jor-el being unable to convince his leaders that the planet was doomed, because he ultimately could not bring himself to tell the specifics, or even the actual identity, of this horrifying blessing. Jor-el easily could have used a small fragment of Zero-K to power a larger ship for himself and his wife, along with their son, but he refused in penance for his inaction. He had this discussion with his wife and she agreed to stay with him but steadily started to go mad with the knowledge that could save and doom Krypton. So Her memory, was wiped, to preserve her sanity. Thus Jor-el built the escape for only one, Kal-el.
Zero-K was postulated to a by-product of Kryptonian crystalline technology. A glitch that went unnoticed and unremedied until Jor-el found it. Unfortunately, precious little more can be be learned as there is seeming as little Zero-K left as natural anti-matter in the universe. Zero-K crystals do not grow on their own and need other forms of Kryptonite to to power its growth in the presence of the needed silica-based minerals.
The Fortress of Solitude may actually contain the "glitch" to make Zero-K, but this is unknown to Superman. Supergirl may be at least peripherally aware that the glitch still exists and any example of Kryptonian Crystalline technology.
Why hasn't there been a speed force kryptonite? Some kryptonite could get stuck in a atomic reactor and to stop it from exploding the flash could run in and temporarily get fused with the kryptonite. What do you guys think it's powers would be and how do you think it could explain things about the speed force and kryptonites property's?
