    Hi Rob. Me and my friend went to DC last year for the first time. We stayed at the Holiday Inn in Greenbelt, Maryland. The hotel had the best customer service I’ve ever seen. They also had a free Shuttle that would take you to and from the Greenbelt metro station. One time the shuttle wasn’t available when we requested it, and the staff paid for us a taxi so we didn’t have to wait. I’ve never seen a hotel staff go out of their way to help customers like they did. Being outside the city we were able to save a lot of money on the hotel price and were able to do a lot more on our trip. Would definitely recommend Holiday Inn Greenbelt, Maryland to anybody!

    To me the best buy in DC is the Hotel Harrington downtown... at 10th & E Streets, NW, a short walk from the White House, Ford's Theater, and all subway lines. It's old & a little funky but it has a lot of international tourists and everything you need is right there. I love Harry's Restaurant on the first floor. Harriet's Restaurant also on the first floor has a good breakfast. All kinds of cafes and coffee shops are within a block. They have the lowest prices downtown and the convenience can't be beat.

    I also had good luck in the Friendship Heights area though a bit farther out. Even Bethesda/Rockville though he is right about higher Metro fares but a $100 or more cheaper for a hotel adds up to a lot of subway fares plus there are a lot of nice places to eat etc... in those areas. My biggest tip would be, use the shoulder seasons and check when big conventions were in town. Lots of rooms that can be very reasonable at off times even in desirable times of year. No cherry blossoms, holidays or big conventions.

    • @TripHacksDC
      @TripHacksDC  5 лет назад

      Holidays can yield great rates (sometimes) because convention organizers often avoid bumping their events up against holidays.

      I agree with you. There is a whole lot going on in those areas other than sight seeing that a vacationer can appreciate. Yes, with traffic, it will be a ways to get to the good stuff in DC but keep in mind, when tourists go sightseeing, they spend most of the day walking around so if your commute is a little longer, it's not that big of a deal

      If your home city has a para transit service, you should be able to access the metro para transit service during your visit. This is an excellent option for those with mobility issues of any kind. Check with you home city para transit service for details, as well as with Metro so you are set when you get to DC. Remember metro covers not only DC but deep into both Virginia and Maryland.

    • @TripHacksDC
      @TripHacksDC  6 лет назад +2

      Hi Jen - just because a property doesn't appear on the list doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad place to stay. It's extremely difficult to be the judge of "niceness" because everyone has different tastes and preferences and I have personally stayed in very few DC hotels since I live here. The recommendations are based primarily on location, general reputation, and feedback I've gotten from my tour customers over the years. If you're comfortable with a hotel based on its reviews on TripAdvisor, etc. then I would stick with it.

    Best thing to do is to stay in Pentagon City or go up the hill to Arlington VA! From Arlington go across the Key Bridge to Georgetown and the make your way down to the Mall and the Smithsonian Museums!!! Make sure you ride the DC Tours bus and get a bird's eye view of the city !!! DC has its tourist spots all over town but this beautiful city has several neighborhoods with a style and feel all of their own. You wont Experience scammers as you move farther away from the tourist spots. If it doesn't feel right stop talking to the scammer and they will move on. Enjoy your time, go to the Wharf and go to the National Press Club , and go up embassy row, also Adam's Morgan!!!
