I got a st croix a couple weeks ago for about $150, I went to the store intending to buy a $60 ugly stick or something but I was blown away at all the options, I thought this was a badass rod and I’d have it forever but I see you fishermen with these rods that are sending me down rabbit holes on fishing gear😂
Wow, lol! Your Rod is going to give you a lot of great memories of being on the water. Resist the temptation if it does not make financial sense. That said, if you do find it within your family’s budget to get a Legend Extreme, do so as quickly as possible.😂👏🏿👏🏿🎣

I have the casting version, 7’ MH, and it’s easily the most sensitive rod I own. I’ve actually never used another rod that’s more sensitive. It takes getting used to because you feel every single thing.
I see you’re in Sac. I’m in Yuba City an fish my local rivers and sloughs weather permitting. Being retired I indulge myself daily. Recently panfish on ultra lite has consumed my time.
I’m actually in Redding. I moved from Sacramento 3 years ago. I still fish in the Yuba and Colusa areas though. Like you, I have an addiction to targeting panfish on light tackle. I must say I’m pretty jealous of your retirement priorities, lol. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣
I was considering the 7ft medium fast Legend Extreme but was concerned about the reel seat & front lock nut design. Do you find the front nut to be uncomfortable? I hold my rods with my pinky finger behind the reel with my 4 other fingers in front. Thanks for the great content!!
Thanks for the comment and you are welcome. The reel seat is quite comfortable in my hand. The lock nut is very comfortable. Now if may not be as comfortable for you because you have so many fingers above the reel foot. That said, you can use a rod wrap to cover the lock nut to see if that could help. However once again, I believe you will enjoy the feel of the rod even with the way you hold it. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣
I wish I could fish 150-200 times a year! But I work Monday-Friday 8-10hour overnight shifts. I’d have to go fishing after work (between 2-4AM). Fish for maybe 1-4hours & than sleep as soon l get home. I may try that occasionally but as of right now I fish 1-2 a week. Only on the weekends unless holidays on weekdays that I take advantage of.

The NRX+ (comparing apples to apples, medium to medium, medium light to medium light, etc) is lighter in weight than the Legend Extreme. However, the Legend Extreme is more sensitive than the NRX+. The Legend Extreme is better with bottom contact baits, but the NRS plus is better with lighter weight baits. So If I were throwing baits, such as Keitech style baits, underpins, and square bills, I would prefer the NRX+ over the Legend Extreme. If I am throwing, mostly worms, jigs, tubes and lipless crank baits, I would prefer the Legend Extreme over the NRX+. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣
Good question. I present a bait in a a way that it appears to not be feel threatened by a predator. I’ll try to move the bait in a non defensive manner so that the fish believes my bait is an easy meal. This presentation can be either aggressive or subtle. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

@Jake Pokedex I would say the Conquest. I love having the Spiral X and Hi-power X on the rod blank and feel like it’s more sensitive. I also like the full cork handle on the casting Conquests vs the feel of the St Croix. Can’t go wrong either way but if you are looking to get one in this realm of rods then you may as well spring for the best.
@Jake Pokedex I think cork handles are offer better grip, more lightweight, having higher sensitivity/more tactile, and don’t absorb water like foam. Keep in mind that not all cork handles are the same. Even on a St. Croix Victory, which aren’t cheap rods by any means, the cork is much harder than what is found on the Conquest. Finally from a traditionalist perspective, I prefer cork as I think it gives the rod character as I use it.

I have a custom rod with a cts air blank, lightest, thinnest and most sensitive blank I’ve ever used, great finesse inshore rod, great video and nice setup

I fish those rods And ur right, there is no bettr rod, u can use that for splitshot,Texas rig, neko, ned rig, light jig , I will definitely disagree with him sayin there is a better rod, and stay away from shitmano and g Loomis, if u have the real Gary Loomis rods those are great but since shitmano took over their rods break real easy and shitmona rods break also and shitmano don't stand behind their life time rods and u get to only replace them 1 time and charge 100 dollars then that's it no more replacing it again, shitmano use to be 1 of the best stand behind their equipment, I use to work for a big sporting goods dealer, and got a Calcutta reel, took it of box and it would grind the gears sent it back, they sent me a new 1 and charged me 30 dollars, and I never got to use the reel the replacement would turn almost 360 then bind up, again never got 2 use the reel, it took them 5 times to get me a reel that worked But they wanted me to pay them 30 dollars 5 times, told them to shove it, and they even new I worked for that sporting store, I hzv a shitmano cumura rod that is suppose to be life time, when they came out, they won't even warranty that, so u couldn't pay me and give me their SHIT to ever use again
I definitely understand your discontent with Shimano. I also hesitated to purchase their rods due to their reluctance to stand behind their high dollar rods and reels. Those fees assessed to you for producer errors is absolutely outrageous. I almost purchased a Black Widow Edge Rod. At the time they were back ordered, so I decided to wait. I may need to try again in the new year. I have to admit, I am falling in love with the St. Croix Legend Extreme. So far, It is the best rod I have ever thrown. 👏🏿👏🏿🎣

ballistic mq from daiwa is better if staying in that reel price range. other wise I would go stella or exist or daiwa certate lt.
