Super stoked, just bought one for my son. It is his first rifle, got him the stainless version mentioned in this clip. This will likely be his most memorable Christmas yet. They grow to fast damn it.
I still own a 10/22 I bought in 1982 and it still shoots like it's brand new. Best 22 made!
Do you know what model?
The Backpacker 10/22 stock is an essential for the takedown - I'd go with that set up any day as it fits so well into a backpack and it allows the rifle to hold a self contained survival kit if you get separated from your main backpack.
Another essential item is a good suppressor since it's pointless having a small calibre rifle for hunting small game if everyone within 2 miles knows you're there.....especially in a 'survival' situation as you don't want to draw attention to where you are.
Excellent review, man.
I hate your reviews ... every time I see one It ends up costing me money! ;) Another excellent presentation as always. I see I’m going to be spending yet more money ... :)
What’s wrong with you? Get out of here if you hate him it’s not that hard

@Macdog1213 It’s people like you that make me think this country is really, truly screwed. Might want to learn to read to the end of things (or keep your hands off the keyboard).
cdLady54 _ I don’t know if you’ve looked lately but there’s an ongoing Marxist revolution taking place in the country; it’s hard to get much of anything in terms of firearms right now.
I have the regular 10-22 takedown. Great gun. My choice for SHTF.
What was the price?
👍🏻
thanks
I own a dozen rifles but let me tell you, i use my Ruger 22 silver version the most, this rifle is just absolutely amazing and you dont need a optic to hit the target from far away, i never used a optic cause its just fun to use it as is and hits the target like non other. Awesome rifle.
Cool video and rifle scootch!
I just picked up the cz455 with the threaded barrel. Adding the suppressor...it’s SO quiet!
Happy Independence Day brother
Thanks Brother! CZ makes excellent firearms. Happy Independence Day!
Ruger needs to give the 10/22 Last shot hold open and have a bolt release like the Marlin Papoose.
Upgrade your 10 22 with kidd parts. Problem solved!
I upgraded mine with Kidd parts. Works like a charm now!
Tony Kidd makes premium parts, for years now, where have you been?
@@jasonbosworth8549 I guess under a rock
Looks like Ruger is getting out ahead of the aftermarket with this new light version. Smart. Their take down is so simple and quick, must faster than the AR-7 or the Papoose.
The regular takedown with a decent scope is a fun rifle.
Wanted the standard takedown. But this seems better. Great for getting kids out to the range.
Like the mag release better too.
So you save 3oz with the "lite" and 5oz with the magpul.
@6:50 "It's great to take out first time shooters..." (LOL. I know what you meant!)
Before he said "take out", he started to say "sh...". 😆
My favorite detail of the takedown models is they are interchangeable. You can order different barrels for your lower and ruger makes a pistol(ish) version so you could essentially have a long barrel pistol or a short barrel rifle OR any combination you can muster.
Tell me more brother
Love the easy paced music in the intro, great review happy 4th!
A good thing to point out, is that the 10/22 Takedown Lite does not come with iron sights.
Meanwhile the standard 10/22 Takedown does.
Walkin around somewhere in the woods of SC, shootin at stuff with the 22... 👍 I try n do the same thing at least once a week. Its good for the mind. Thanks again Sootch!
You're correct. How I wish I were to have a place close by to do that.
Excellent review. This is perhaps the perfect woods rifle for small game hunters. However, I prefer handguns more and am very happy with my Ruger Mark III pistol, a Father's Day gift from my son.
Nice change of scenery with the woods walk. Like to see more videos like that.
Congrats on 1 million subs Sootch! I've been hanging around here since 2013.
I have wanted one of these rifles, for a while. I need one of those MagLula Loaders, simply to reload a dozen mags at one time. Because you'll shoot that much in one outting. I love Ruger and you can't hardly beat the 10/22.
Great video! Thanks
Love my 10/22 Takedown. Mine is just the regular one with the black synthetic furniture topped off with a Nikon P-rimfire 2-7 scope.
Sootch you have become my tv show of the week you have the touch man
I have a Ruger 10-22 takedown version that came with a beautiful tan cloth type carry bag that gives the feeling of yesteryear. I think it may have only been available for a short time but I'm not sure about its availability. It has the Ruger logo and is very well made but the Lite bag is set up better.
With around 350 million people in the USA it is hard to believe that they have not sold more, especially considering how many of us own multiple ones. It is literally on every list of 3 guns or 5 guns everyone should own.
Started late in life so now I'm starting to get into firearms. So my 1st rifle at age 65 ....... will be a 10 /22 Takedown but for some reason could not find the Takedown Lite ANYWHERE ! Plenty of the X-22 Magpul Takedown BUT asking for these are about 2 times the regular Takedown ! After watching the 10 / 22 Takedown video's I think this will be a great 1st rifle for me.
@@ag4allgood 10/22 rifle is a great rifle for new and experienced gun owners. What ever gun you budget for to buy, make sure you also budget for a decent stock of ammo and some good training or instruction. Guns are like tattoos …. Once you get one it is hard not to want to get another one….and another one, and……
I love that intro song sootch!! Makes me wish i was floating down a river with beer in hand!
Thanks as always, I was watching several of the Sootch00 reviews on other 10/22 models last week because I was putting a take down together from parts I had throwing around the house. I had a take down barrel and stock then found a take down receiver on GB. I had to pick up a bolt and trigger group so now I have yet another 10/22 in my collection. I have found a new non-take down model in a synthetic stock both on GB and in one of my local stores that is retailing for $199. It appears to be the model 31139 in the carbine section on the Ruger site. What a deal. Thanks for the review. I love the lite in both the 10/22 and the 22/45. Fun guns to shoot.
Thanks Cervus! You sound like me. I keep finding reasons to add another 10/22 to my collection.
@@sootch00what ammo brands would you recommend that don't jam?
Bought one of these in same configuration.loved it.now has a Kidd trigger and volquartsen barrel.accuracy was great out the box but now it just makes one hole with multiple shots.highly recommend one.
dbm0916 how is that Kidd trigger?
Spent all weekend with my 10/22 plinking in Independence Day at our upstate NY house. Then came home to your patches!!! Thanks Sootch 💪🇺🇸🇺🇸
Very nice. Got to love the Ruger take downs guys.
Just sent that gun back, after only 2 months of ownership. The takedown connectors simply had way too much slack...i could move point of impact up to 8“ depending of where i placed my support hand on the front grip.....
You’re then man. Nothing but respect for you amigo
That hop at the :44 mark had more action than most of the 80/90's action movies. HAHAHA great video and thanks for breaking down this gun. Pun intended
4:39 In the UK we have 1022 takedowns like the one on the left but made by Oceania Defence and they also have an integrated silencer. Pretty cool but takedowns all suffer from the same problem. Accuracy because the barrel isn't permanently attached. Really they should tap the barrel for a rail.
Outstanding review, keep up the good work.
So the lite version is about 4 oz lighter ?? Not much difference in weight.
I have a bull barrel laminated heavy rifle. And it works perfectly for about 200 rounds. Then it starts being difficult. I take the bolt out and clean everything. Not sure why its tender on use.
What size groups do the takedowns yield ?? My bull barrel shoots 2/3 inch ten shot groups at 110 yards with cheap ammo.
Don't forget about the 25 round Ruger banana magazines!
I cant keep on watching your reviews... my wallet always gets empty.. ughh... Now I cant sleep and need to get one asap!! =)
Lol! Too many guns, not enough funds : ) Thanks Czar
@@sootch00 I saw in one of your videos that Armscor is Pro-2A. Just wanna let you know Philippines after gaining independence from US used to have Arms freedom comparable to Southern States until itwas controlled over and over. Nevertheless, it is said our country is still the most Progun in Asia thanks to US.
The Ruger is a top takedown gun for sure. My meager collection of takedown rimfires consists of; Charter AR-7, Rossi 62SAC carbine, Rossi Matched Pair .22/.410, Marlin Papoose (wood stocked) and Norinco ATD.22, a very enjoyable brace of takedowns.
I could buy that exact rifle, and never "need" another.
Get the old school 10/22 with wood furniture.... Makes one hell of a bat if the ammo is gone.. js
@@rogerburt3712 I have 3 of them. I in bone stock form, 1 with a fluted bull barrel and thumb hole laminated stock, and one with a shrouded barrel set in a crappy black plastic "tactical" stock that may be sold if the buyer comes through today. This rifle will replace that "tactical" one i sold. The good ol 10/22........about the most customizable firearm ever made. And in 34 years of owning them have NEVER ONCE had one fail. That's saying something right there!
A removable stock hollowed out for storage would make it perfect!
Yep Exactly - that would have been perfect 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
The Packpacker stock has storage in the stock... and lightens the gun.
@@stevemiller7433 You nailed it Steve.
The stock is mostly hollow so if you’re handy enough you could modify it yourself but it would change handling & balance characteristics
Using extended mags including the extended mags leads to misfeeds with every mag.
Excellent presentation my friend
Happy 4th of July
Stay Safe
Great review! I love my Ruger 10/22 Takedown. I put on the Magpul stock and upgraded the trigger assembly. It's such a joy to shoot, especially with the scope I mounted to the included pucatinny rail. Keep up you great videos.
Thanks Craig! The 10/22 is hard to beat!
Want that case for my 10/22 and PCC9.
Great video! Thank you for sharing. I plan on buying this same gun. Right now I have an old NAA 22lr revolver.
great review very helpful and too the point!
Nice vid !!! Congrats .
Great review. Would love to be able to own one of these but unfortunately we are not permitted semi auto anything in Australia unless you own a 1500 acre property.
Thanks Brother! It's sad what's happened to the Land Down Under.
Time to move to the USA
@@jimmysapien9961 They don't let you in !
Move to USA. Here, you can buy a truckload of all kinds of guns and ammunition if you can afford them.
sootch00 yeh. I settled on a Ruger American ranch rifle in .223. It takes AR mags but it’s hard to even get mags here. Going to fit it into the MDT LSS XL GEN 2 AR chassis. It’ll look as close to an AR as we can have. Keep up the good work. I love your channel and learning tonnes.
Just saw one today and I will go back and buy it, good for practice and cheap 😎
Dang, haven't watched a sootch video in days. RUclips must be filtering you out even with the notifications on. Thanks for another nice vid.
I lost half of my gun in a boating accident.
The front half or back half? 😏
Canoes are tricky
TheH454 yes
Have the stainless one, My wife cannot shoot a pistol due to hand surgery, so she will use this. Not as effective as we would like, but a shot in the eye, will work wonders. No noise, no recoil, small, light. Also with a small laser. As i age, this may be my last stand, say at 80+ who knows what we can manage. ??We shoot every Friday. Ammo is cheap, easy to acquire. I keep the hottest brand we can find. Normal bulk for practice. Just saying. Very good vid my friend.
Randall Kelley ?
I've got the original 10/22 takedown, and they have definitely improved the rifle since then, but I don't see why they couldn't make that last round bolt open? In the 'used to be' and 'back in the day', you could get the 10/22 for around $100, or at least find a used one near that price. I actually found one about a year ago that I paid $125 for. It's in rough shape cosmetically (rusting and pitting on the barrel) but still shoots reliably and rests in a sock in my truck for emergencies. One of the best little .22 rifles out there!
100% recommend upgrading the bolt release and extended charging handle from Tandem Kross. The extended magazine release is great too. The bolt release and charging handles are absolute game changers!
Happy 4th of July to sir & your family.
My first gun I shot was a ruger 10/22. This take down is awesome. Ive been looking at the kel tec sub 2000 and s&w folding PCC but this is awesome and more practical for my uses. Im not going to be in heavy combat. Although im sure this rifle could handle a gun fight
Love my lite.
Never thought about adding a .22 to the arsenal till now... think this will make a great addition
Now I have to buy one of these dang things!! I still haven’t saved up enough $ to buy a Governor! Your reviews are always thorough and informative. Wish I had a nice shaded place to shoot like you have!!! Thanks a bunch for your videos.
Lol a Governor. Those and those Judges are gimmicky crap man.
i didn't know they have the takedown lite. i have the take down and both me and my wife have fun with it. my son will start on that as well.
I figure the backpacker stock version is lighter because the barrel is the narrower version.
Love my 16” heavy fluted barrel model!
Magpul stock with the little forend just looks goofy.
**That scope extends way past the barrel take apart point and the stock is longer than the barrel.
**An extending/folding stock would be an excellent option and a pistol grip that adjusts from bear paw to lilliputian hands.
**An integrated top rail with a quick detach scope mount would also be excellent options.
**The ability to attach a light or small hunting camera with a couple of rail sections would also be desirable.
**I have a standard 10/22 with a synthetic stock and don't see the need to upgrade until it has a lot more of the options I just mentioned.
I just wish part of the stock was hollow to hold some basic maintenance supplies so it could be an all-in-one survival rifle.
I have 50 th Anv.T.D stainless the pack has extra room in side&lrge pockets on front.Fair amt of room for extra gear, ammo ect.
Great set up.Love takedowns
I got my kid the yellow one about a year back. You've never seen a grin that big.
Great video bro.
Besides this new version 1022 being a takedown, new barrel
and a few other minor changes... Is there any improvement on
the accuracy from this new barrel? I mean is it worth paying almost
twice what you would pay for a regular takedown 1022?
Very Cool Ruger 10/22 Takedown Lite Rifle, Sootch00 !!!!!!! Also, everybody have a Happy independence Day weekend !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
10/22 lite isn't much lighter. I built a 10/22 takedown with a Volquartsen carbon fiber sleeved barrel and put it in a Backpacker stock. This makes it almost as light as my Papoose... which in my opinion is a better backpack gun.
Sootch: what scope is that?
Great rifle, but it seems to me that bolt action .22 LR rifles are best for hunting use as they are much better at handling the huge range of ammo, from shotshells, to subsonic rounds, to high velocity rounds. Semi-autos will only function reliably with a narrow range of ammo. So I would much prefer a takedown version of the Ruger American Rimfire Compact, and am surprised to find that Ruger does not make such a rifle.
It's hard to go past the Henry U.S. Survival AR-7 in a semi-auto .22 for survival use as the action/barrel stores in its own stock, and is much improved over the original ArmaLite AR-7 (which was reliable with HV ammo in my experience) as it now has a rail on top of the receiver, which remedies my main complaint about the original (not optics friendly). Henry also redesigned the stock so it now stores two magazines rather than one (a big improvement IMO). A semi-auto is arguably better than a bolt action for survival use if one is only using HV ammo and you want to be able to use it as a defensive weapon, as they are much better for rapid follow up shots. Be mindful of security though. Many years ago some people on a camping trip in Australia were murdered with an AR-7 one of them had stored in their vehicle with ammo, which some misfit found and used against them.
www.henryusa.com/rifles/u-s-survival-ar-7/
You have a very good point here. Even a single shot .22 rifle (which I own) would be a more versatile one than a semi-auto rifle.
Looking for a older take down backpacker, none around near me, northern Illinois. My grandson would love the back packer style....
Semi-auto is an invitation to blow through huge quantities of ammo. These days, a great lever action tube-fed 22 appeals to me more, not exactly sure why.
I just don’t like the takedown feature. I prefer a solid rifle no frills. I’d rather sling the rifle or not bring it
Very nice. I was looking at the carbine model because it’s on sale this weekend, but I like this one better for the barrel.
I wonder how accurate it is, since the scope is not mounted on the barrel, but rather on the body, which is separate piece. How accurately does it repeat, when you dismount and mount the barrel again!. Tenthousands of an inch error makes huge difference in 100 yeards!
Just bought the magpul takedown. My one complaint is that it didn't come with a bag. . Still, $500 out the door for all the features is hard to beat! It's my 5th 10/22.
Once you put on scope pretty well drop the carry case
I bought a takedown and the accuracy was awful. I returned it and got the Ruger American I have other 10/22s and they are fine.
Great video, brother. Long live the republic, indeed.
Ok Thanks You Videonya.
Very cool kit👍👍
love the looks of the light, but no irons
??
Nice set up !
Outstanding video
Happy Fourth of July to all guns and gadgets put out a video everyone needs to see the new bill it's a real threat
I wanted a Takedown Lite but couldn't find one or any TD online or in the stores I had checked, I ended up finding the heavy barrel version which I think the sporting goods store in my area still had because it was over $600 freaking bucks.
Good review. What scope are you using? Are you using the mounting plate that shipped with the rifle ?
Thanks.
If only they'd made it with backup iron sights and a railed receiver, it would be perfect. Why would they leave off iron sights and not include a rail?
I have a few 10/22's, but no takedown model. I have always wondered about the return to zero with an optic. In your experience, how is accuracy effected by the optic staying with the receiver and not the barrel?
Not so good tbh lol
Will the standard thin barrel fit in the lite stock ? Both upper and lower
Sold
Sure wish we could get it in a 22mag like they used to make or a 17hmr
The exact set up you are showing, what is the price? I am talking case and exactly with the bull barrel.
Thanks ahead .
25x40gr= 1000gr of lead/copper... Flipped over up to 2000g total.. If they're still coming, use the 10 rd that came with it.. Surely that would stop em... ;-)
I just want to buy one 10-22 for my arsenal and
home defense colect diferent cal. Rifle so .22 and 308 would be my last purchase also an 38 revolver
I love my 10/22 takedown.
Muy bueno tu vídeo saludos desde Argentina
with a scope attached to receiver, have you noticed any point of impact shift after taking down and reassembling multiple times?
The point of impact is really close. It's made to retain zero. Thanks B
Ought to switch out the lite barrel for the Silent-SR and drop in FA's 10/22 binary trigger.
