  • Bond (Roger Moore) is chased by the Russians in the pre-credit sequence for A VIEW TO A KILL which was filmed on this day in 1984. 007’s co-pilot in the submarine, Kimberley Jones, was played by Mary Stavin who was crowned Miss World 1977 and also appeared in OCTOPUSSY (1983).

    My hubby is the stuntman for Rodger Moore in this epic scene! Steve Link along w the legendary Tom Sims!
    *** I apologize, I just stumbled upon all the comments (we're old school & happened to stumble upon them because we aren't on here much😅) Steve Link will be stoked to hear such cool stuff from you all! Not many guys are left from the true history of snowboarding so Steve goes & speaks & does interviews on occasion but he truly loves talking to the real fans the most. I will be happy to pass along the messages & have him say hello if you want & answer any questions. Link is a once in a lifetime kind of guy & very humble & knows the history of snowboarding like no other. Roger Moore wrote Link a letter saying " Thank you for making me look so brave "
    Thanks again for all the cool vibes you all sent, I will pass them on to Steve ☺️

    It's funny how at 48, in 1994, Dalton thought he was too old to play Bond. Yet Moore played Bond until he was 57, his final being his 7th Bond film in a row. It's 2022, and he still holds that record even in death. Moore was a magnificent, monumental James Bond 007

    I remember seeing this film in the theater when it first came out. The moment that Bond appeared on the snowboard, and "California Girls" started playing, the entire theater erupted in laughter and applause!
    Perhaps it's one of those you-had-to-be-there moments, so for those that might not appreciate it simply from not having been alive at the time, pretty much nobody knew what the concept of snowboarding even was until this film came out.
    I remember *everybody* non-stop talking about the snowboarding scene, and how cool they thought it was, and there was an instant and dynamic interest in snowboarding as a sport.
    I grant you, if the first time you saw this was on a television set, for a computer screen, and particularly with snowboarding being much more well-known than it was back then, I can see how this would easily come across as really cornball. But at the time, there was simply nothing like it, and that sequence just blew away everybody!

Later knowing it was Tom Sims who did the stunt made it even more cool.

      That thing in the movie was called a Winterstick, a feeble attempt at the snowboard concept early on. It was like trying to surf a canoe. You had to be really good to just make the thing work.
      Snowboard technology followed that of the skateboard, and everybody already knew how to do that. Until 1985 snowboarding was a renegade sport practiced by beach trash and not allowed amongst decent folk.
      Come 1985, at the ski school Director's meeting, Leroy from Squaw says we gotta do something about those snowboarders, every left turn they make is blind ! The Director from Dodge Ridge says: we sold eleven thousand snowboard lessons this winter. Not eleven thousand dollars, but eleven thousand times fifty dollars. Everybody woke up. The MAGIC WORDS were spoken. Starting tje next day Mammoth Mountain was open to snowboards, as well as anyother place that wanted that money. The rest is history.

There's almost too many stunts that occur but they're all really neat. Bond is clever here. Snowboarding is dope. The Beach Boys cover never bothered me because it's a great tune, I'm having fun watching, and it's mixed really well between John Barry's score that comes booming back. • @lukasnummer1
    @lukasnummer1 4 года назад +65

    I think the bit with "California Girls" is funny; I don't mind it at all.
    In general, "A View to a Kill" is one of the most unfairly hated Bond films, I think. Most people believe Roger Moore was too old and kind of use that criticism to discredit the whole picture.
    Up until San Francisco the film is actually rather decent, the villain and his henchwoman are very good.
    No, it's not a highlight, but "A View to a Kill" is at least a middle-of-the-road Bond film to me.

    • @KyoukiJuuno
      @KyoukiJuuno 4 года назад +9

      Thing is, there's this weird perception that, if I criticize something then this implies I must also hate that something, and that is just plainly wrong. Criticism doesn't necessarily equal hate. Hate is such a strong word, yet criticism can be fair - no it must be fair if it's supposed to make any sense. Matter of fact, criticizm in the purest sense is based on logic (tho possibly subjective) while hate more often than not is illogical to begin with. You may think of it as polar opposites as to how someone approaches a discussion or argument - are they open-minded, or are they dealing in egocentrical absolutes?
      So let's ask this. Is "California Girls" funny in that context? Yes, absolutely. I think it is. I don't force anyone to share that view tho. Does it belong into a Bond action sequence? Debatable. You might like it, I might not, but essentially the answer is subjective, and that is absolutely okay. You can have your opinion, I can have mine. Fair. Would I prefer it wasn't there? Yes, absolutely. Still opinion. Does it bother me that it's there? A tiny bit, maybe. I can get over it. Do I hate the movie or even just the scene for it? No, absolutely not. Is it one of my favourite Bond movies? Certainly not. I still like Christopher Walken as the villain, great pick. Would I ever tell anyone the movie is bad because of my opinion? Hell no. You gotta decide that stuff for yourself, I ain't helping. See it all makes sense this way, and nobody needs to hate anything.

      I don't think any Bond actor will do them in his late 50s today , it seems they have to do more stunts themselves . Craig used to constantly get injured in his later Bond films .
