It is finally revealed which contest will play the role of Nancy in Cameron Mackintosh's production of Oliver! as the results from the public vote are announced.
I might be a Nancy traditionalist but I'm so glad that Jodie won. The audience falls in love with Nancy because of her heart- not because of her rawness or grit. And you need them to fall in love with her or her death does not have the emotional payoff it should. The 2009 cast recording is my favorite because of the amazing charisma Jodie has in the role.
I saw Jodie live as Nancy. She was good, but I didn't fall in love with her. So her death didn't break my heart. Jodie was wonderful in the finale, but when it comes to the Oliver material, I honestly believe Jessie gave the more emotional, believable performance.

Although I agree that Jodie was the better fit for this particular part, Jessie's performance of "As Long As He Needs Me" just blew me away - so emotionally connected, so believable, she had me in tears by the end!😍😍
I'm sorry but Jessie BLEW Jodie out of the water there. She embodied the desperation, heartbreak and tragedy of Nancy mistakenly standing by her man. Jodie has a great voice but I didn't feel light and shade in that performance. I didn't feel her feeling the words. Based on those performances, Jessie should have won.
Anyone else notice how pissed off Andrew, Cameron and Barry look when their favourite didn’t win? Oof those glares and forced smiling/clapping, that’s British for “absolutely livid but we’re on TV so need to be polite” 😬😂

@@kastanymusica I'd say Andrew was legit angry and hiding it. Cameron was more balanced, showing happiness for Jodie while not rubbing it in Jessie's face. Barry was probably disappointed but we don't get many shots of him after the announcement, it could be possible being an overweight,old man with the final happening late, he was just tired.
I think Jodie did a great job as Nancy; Jessie turned down the opportunity to understudy Nancy to do other theater, but it’s possible that the big overall winner was 3rd place Samantha Barks who played Nancy in the UK touring company before going on to play Éponine in Les Miserables, first at the Queens Theater in London, then at the 25th Anniversary Concert and finally in the 2012 movie.
Katey parkinson Rachel is a world class performer, un matched in many way. Samantha, too has been fabulous in everything she has done, a perfect Eponine.
Samantha has had the biggest musical career no doubt. She is the definitive Eponine . But Jessie decided she wanted to be more than just a singer. She wanted to be an actress, and my goodness me she is one hell of an actress. Brilliant in everything she does. Of course she is also a fantastic singer ! IMO Super stardom awaits her
Keith Bate Jesse’s got the resemblance of Nicole Kidman and deserved most to be Nancy coz’ she had that X factor in interpretation of moving emotions in her!!! A good day to y’all!
They closed the voting lines 5 seconds after Jessie's performance,and before the panel endorsed Jessie... If it had closed later, perhaps the winner would have been different..
When Jodie started singing at the end "I won't betray his trust though people say I must" felt like a big f you to ALW because it was so obvious he didn't want Jodie to win... the way she sang it with so much more power than earlier which is something he said she didn't have... it was a definite "f you, I told you I could do it" moment
Andrew, Cameron and Barry clearly thought that Jessie was the perfect choice for Nancy. Andrew later said that he thought Jodie was too old for the part of Nancy as the character of Nancy. What a stand out star Jessie was become. She's one of the best actresses of her generation.

Jessie won when she was born into such a talented Killarney family. Her mother, harpist / soprano Marina Cassidy is a regular at White House functions. They are equally talented, stable ladies who wander unmolested through Killarney. As does Michael Fassbender when back home in Killarney.
Apparently Jodi broke up with her fiance a few weeks after this aired. He claims she was just using him to win. She also didn't make him part of the celebrations after she had won.
Oh it was apparent for weeks that although he was still at the shows, things weren't good between them. And she seemed sad and stressed in a way that couldn't really be explained by the pressures of the show. The guy interviews with a big media source and gave a detailed account of his version of their first date, even talking about when they first had sex. He then proceeded to trash her in said media source, all while playing poor me... Freakin' narcissist. No wonder she broke up with him. Probably the timing was due to the amount of pressure and intensity in her life without adding a breakup, and the revenge he was likely to seek.

Having watched to the end, she puts more light and shade and emotion into her second performance of the song at the end.
