I was in the same audition day for DSL with Jessie and I just knew that she was going to be a star. Such a huge talent. I knew she’d do well! So happy for her!

As for award chances, I think they made this movie for the BAFTA which Jessie was actually nominated. You see that BAFTA acknowledge British movies more than Americans whereas Oscars is the exact opposite
Never been a big fan of Webber, but his assertion that Buckley hold onto that truly original spark within her was really moving. The two judges that pushed up against her throughout seem to have a very narrow view of what a unique actress can achieve. She takes on challenging and idiosyncratic characters constantly now, and has found herself as the most successful of the contestants 15 years on.
I’d forgotten how harsh they were to Jessie. I loved her and always thought she should have got the role. Nancy is no blushing violet- Jessie is wild and raw and powerful. I’ve just seen her in Wild Rose and she was fabulous. Julie Walters says she has an incredible voice so there you go!
I watched and enjoyed all those Andrew Lloyd Webber talent shows. I think Jessie is the greatest talent to emerge from any of those shows. She proved 10 years ago she was a brilliant singer. But since then she has also proved she is a fantastic actress too. Super stardom surely awaits her.
Always felt while watching this at the time that Denise Van Outen and John Barrowman were really hard on Jessie Buckley and that they preferred Jodie Prenger. Andrew Lloyd Webber and Barry Humphries were never blind to how good she was. And look at her now and were is Jodie Prenger🤔😉
