- This is my long term review of the updated design on/off style Cab Over America wireless cab lights. Find out if they’re worth it, and if the new design fixes the issues people complained about. Spoiler alert they are and they do!

If you’re curious about these lights, here’s a link to their website: caboveramerica.com
DO NOT BUY THESE LIGHTS, they are a huge waste of money. I have had multiple sets of these lights and no matter what I do they will not stay on longer than 30 minutes. Ive charged them for multiple days in a row without using them and no matter what they still turn off or die after 20-30 minutes. Either this guy doesnt know what hes talking about or caboveramerica keeps sending me garbage lights, even though they are "pre tested". Either way I would stay away from these lights. If you want cab lights go get real ones and have someone that knows what they are doing put them in.
Definitely getting these. I spent $60k on my truck and the only thing I hate is didn’t come with cab lights. I looked into having them installed. Close to $2000 to have them done right. I love how everyone is freaking out over $400. I guess you could get some duct tape and stick on some harbor freight hazard lights to ur roof 🤪
😂😂 I’m sure they’d be cheaper if the company was bigger, but it’s a pretty small operation! I actually never realized that when I first ordered them. Totally agreed with you though. Why drill holes in a brand new truck for cab lights when you don’t have to!
Another great Review!- I have had these for a couple of months now and I believe was one of the first to receive the updated "on/off" version. Just wanted to share my experience regarding run time. First, and most importantly, these need to be charged in direct sunlight for at least 30 total hours over a few days to ensure a full charge.---- While I was on vacation, I came home around 11pm one night and forgot to turn the cab lights off......Around 10 a.m. the next morning, I came out to the truck and the lights were still on and just as bright as they were the night before!!!--- 12 hours of continuous light!!!! I did share this with Cab Over America and I learned that to the best of their knowledge, the "record" so far is 22 straight hours off a full charge.
Awesome, that was my only question that I haven’t seen covered yet. Thanks!
thx for the insight
Loved the lights not the price ..
As in all DOT required cab lights they are on a separate circuit as in all large 18-wheeler trucks. This function is used to signal others as they desire. We have mimicked that ability with our Cab Over America lights, so you can have that option to control your lights via your remote, separate from your running lights. I hope that explains our products capabilities better. We have 12+ hours of run time on a full charge with a 3:1 charge ratio, this will give you plenty of use as the battery charges daily even in cloudy conditions. Thanks again for choosing us for your cab lights. We are always here for your support
We are the only patented proprietary wireless cab clearance in the world and our price is less than a shop that pulls your headliner down and drills 15 to17 holes in your roof. At Cab Over America we have used a very expensive high/low temp battery to allow our product to function well in extreme environmental conditions. The battery cost is around $30. each. We did not compromise on our quality and durability. I hope that explains our cost and market price. Remember those holes will eventually leak and you will have to deal with that expense.
We design a product simple to use, by all. Unfortunately, not all our customers use Bluetooth and their vehicles don't have it. Our product is sold worldwide in many applications to include ATVs and can work with almost any truck new or old, domestic or foreign. We have no plans to go Bluetooth or hardwire to individual vehicles, although our patent covers that option. I hope you reconsider I am positive you will like our product. Thanks, you can see our lights and order at caboveramerica.com
I said the same about the price. But I do love the look of the cab over lights and this option is nice since hou do t need to drill holes and pull the roof liner out and a the labor involved
I will end up getting them
Guarantee you'd pay more if you'd buy the ones that you have to drill in
When you factor in not having to drill holes, or the price it would cost to have someone else install them, these are a good price point for what you get
@@vbadkin how would these function in a Canadian climate
I really do like what I see. I just don't want another FOB in my pocket. If they made a module for the OEM light switch I'm all in!
Just ordered a set of these based off of your review. Customer service was great and I can’t wait to get them installed. Thanks for the review!
Thank you so much!
How are they working out? This post was a year ago and I'd really appreciate knowing what you think...
I'll definitely be buying a set asap. Not only is it made in the USA, but it's a small company. I support small and upcoming companies.
I can’t verify that everything is made in the US (maybe shoot them an email) but I can at least say that it’s a US based operation and if you reach out the responses aren’t in broken Chinese haha.
I love your channel and your photography skills are at a high level. I am going to pick up a 96 F250 tomorrow and if the deal goes through I will buy these lights. I can't believe everyone saying $400 is too much - my gosh an iPhone goes for $1,200. This is a great product. Great video, keep your channel coming. Unfortunately may F-250 will be a 7.5L Gasser but still an OBS. I figure a gasser will be easier to maintain.
Thank you! I think the reason for the price is the company’s size. They’re a small operation, and any kind of plastic molding is really expensive. That’s my best guess at least!
Love that they made an on/off version. I’ll definitely be picking up a set as soon as they go on sale. $400 is pretty steep.
Yeah not cheap, but cool to have! Seems to be a common theme with truck parts 😂
they are on sale
@@wetplanet268 that’s what they want you to think lol
@@JustDiesels sad but so true! Hahah
End up getting them? How'd you like em?
One thing that would be cool, (since they're solar powered), is if they knew to turn on when the sun went down. Such as you would see with solar powered yard lights. Clicking on/off would be tedious imo.
There’s lots of times I don’t want them on though, especially when the truck isn’t on! Haha Since they’re wireless they have no connectivity to know if the truck is on or just parked.
No possible way, to hard wire them in, with your lights though, huh?
Loooove/ have cab lights 👈🤩
#04cumminsLIFE 🤘
like a garden light it's ok till you go to the drive movies :)
@@brandontormaschy6977 what would be the point of wireless lights if they were hard wired in?
The idea is awesome, my ram 3500 did not come with cab lights so I googled it to see what was out there. Unfortunately I don’t think the price is worth the idea. But eventually there will be more competition that will drive the price down for wireless cab lights......so.... I hit up eBay and got a cool set of led lights, rechargeable 3v battery’s small solar chargers and a transponder and receiver and after a 45 mins of soldering and sealing I now have the same thing for $47.....but that’s not all! I have a signal wire taped to my runners so I really don’t even need a remote 😎
The only reason why I have not bought these lights, is for that exact reason that they do not tie into a light circuit to turn on automatically. I do not want to have to remember to turn these on every time I get my truck at night. Great video thanks for all the helpful info. But I think I’ll wait until they can turn on automatically. Thanks again
Got mine on Christmas it is now the 28th, my lights don’t turn on even after charging in the sun all day, it is a little cold, could that have something to do with it
Edit: If you have the smoked lens it is too dark to be able to charge, you’ll have to take them out and let them charge because the smoked lens doesn’t let enough light through, therefore i would go with the amber or clear lens. I had been going back and forth on Emails with the company trying to get them to work and it was just the lens is too dark the whole time. Great lights, just a heads up about getting the smoked lens
do they charge well and hold charge with the amber after all this time?
Just ordered mine tonight can't wait to get them ..And let me just say these guy's rock customer service is AMAZING I emailed a lot of ?s and they were prompt at getting back to me You get what you pay for and I can tell without even having these in my hands yet this company is A+
How are they working out? I'd like to know before I order...Thanks
@@ChrisGriffithCrimeAuthorone of the 5 lights is not responding anymore after 7th day of purchase
@@MohammadHarisMania My luck is just like your luck, so I'm glad I got a set hardwired. I look at these very much like I look at my solar post lights in my back yard. I had to replace them after year three because they were either defective or got to the point they wouldn't hold a charge. Again, I think the concept is great, but it's a roll of the dice.
@@ChrisGriffithCrimeAuthor atleast they served you 3 years, mine went out on 7th day of purchase. Thats pity but what to do
I'm definitely going to get a set soon. Just this weekend I built my front end up based on your videos, used all the same parts and it's like I've got a new truck. Love the videos, they're extremely helpful and full of knowledge.
That’s awesome and I’m glad the truck is driving better! I appreciate the support!
Hope u got a spare $500 sitting around
Love the lights and the concept. Customer Service is good but.......Lights work during the day. Once they site overnight, they are not holding their charge.
I just bought a pair a few weeks ago. I guess shipping time is 8-12 weeks right now. Seems a little long.
Just what I've been looking for...
Not bein' a Dodge/Ram guy, I will have to admit, that's a nice lookin' truck...
That's a good move to go with just on/off unfortunately i had the 3 mode type, but that wasn't the only issue the ridiculously short run time, this Co. advertised on it's web site they use the 'BEST' material, i disagree.
I think if they were more around $200 the company would be much more popular, but with the price unless someone really doesn’t want to drill holes it’s just not worth it

Well , I like the key fob rather than any wiring this stuff in and yes no drilling. When you tired of them you can just take em off. I look at this kinda thing as ,.. fun stuff. and for looks ( my opinion). I would like to try these out its a great idea and on/off only system is better than all the other jazz. On Off simple! Great vids man!!
My experience was totally different than yours. First I’d like to say I’m glad you were treated right by them and I’m happy you got a good set of lights. Me on the other hand was not so lucky. I bought a set and they kept going out of sync with each other, I contacted the seller and they replaced them with another set of bad ones. I have never been able to run my lights correctly once. And since I gave them a bad review, they sent me a email saying “You better hope you never have a warranty issue”. Maybe because I don’t make videos on RUclips, they felt they didn’t have to deal with me like they did you. Do what makes you happy but I wish I didn’t waist my $400.00 on these lights and not to mention you would have to spend another $125.00 on replacements. I’ll take my chances with leaks
Remember that going out of sync isn’t something they can warranty. It’s just the down side of the 3 mode lights losing communication with the transmitter when they die. That’s the entire reason they now offer these on and off lights. My first set was actually bought and paid for like anybody else, but they did send me these new on/off ones for free. If you want to get the older ones in sync, you have to pull the offending lights off the truck, walk out of range from the truck, and use your remote to cycle them into the correct mode. Then you put them back on and everything is in sync. It’s a total pain, which is why it’s nice to have these on/off lights now!
Having blinking light should of never been an option. It is illegal to have light that blink on your roof. And if happened while going down the road you would never know..
I'd be perfectly happy taking my chances on leaks, but I can't find a soul that will install them in my area. I do a lot of projects on my own, but I hesitate to attempt to hardwire a set. I know for a fact they would leak if I did it DIY 😞
How wonderful to get a threat from a supposed legitimate and "professional" company. I'm so happy I didn't buy them that I think I'll treat myself to a steak dinner!
How long will they last with a full charge?
And all that free press and no discount code?
Great video.
I love these. My only issue is that either the connection in the remote is trash or the lights just don’t have the best connectivity. Last night I tried to turn them off and 2 of them just wouldn’t. Had to let them die completely. Kinda frustrating
Just ordered a set after seeing your review. Nice solution
Great video. Really makes me want those lights 👍🏼👍🏼
Love your channel
Thank you!
I ordered the lights last week and had them installed …at first one light quit working day 1!!!
Then after letting the truck sit outside in the sun for 3 days the other 4 lights lit up well but shut off after 45 min😡 I have tried to contact the company multiple times to speak to SOMEONE I was only responded to by emails then they finally replied with a phone number and it was DISCONNECTED!!!!
IF ANYONE KNOWS WHO TO CALL PLEASE POST
Man that sucks to hear. I’ve had two sets without issues and they responded to my emails quickly. I was a normal, retail customer too.
Same issue as you and believe me i tried to make sure they had enough charging exposure i was really excited about these and wanted them to work(read my post above) i never was able to contact a rep from the Co. So im out $445
To have this option is fantastic and they look great. I'm just one who would love to have them turn on when I turn my lights on. As far as price, you said it's a small company so that could explain why the price is so steep. It could also be price vs convenience as well. In any event I think they look nice on your truck and for your needs seem to fit well!

@@vbadkin do you guys have plans in the future to offer a remote that you can wire into your truck so they work with the light switch?
Good review, but there are so many negative reviews out there about this product it makes me hesitant to purchase. Now that u have had the newer version installed for 7 months do u still feel the quality is good & they still work as advertised ? Thanks
I still like them. I think the people that complain don’t understand the product. The on off ones take away any of the connectivity issues, and they do what I need them to do! They’ll only last for a few hours (maybe 4 give or take) but that’s fine with me!
Can you show off more about the Radio your running in the 3rd Gen? I have a 2006 Ram 2500 and I want to upgrade the radio!
I think this is a great idea but I have 3 issues! (1) It's been 3 years since you made this video and how are the lights holding up? (2) Cost of replacing an individual light drives your initial cost even higher. and (3) They do not seem to be as bright as a standard mounted cab light. With that said what is your opinion of the lights now 3 years later and have you done an updated review?
Mine are still working, but I keep seeing horrible reviews, so I think their quality has fallen off. Based on what I’m hearing I’d no longer recommend them.
That’s too bad. I happen to know allot about batteries. Long explanation short, this problem would mostly all go away if in addition to solar charging each one should also have a charging port.
Even if they have them so that they turn on at night automatically would be fine also. Which I believe would be fairly easy.
If there was a way to tie them into the vehicle lights I would be sold immediately, and I would pay stupid money for a set of 3 in the GM style.
Just diezzzzels? Or diesel??? LOL.. Love your videos man. Great channel!
Thank you!
@justdiesels how long did test them for? Some people said they aren’t lasting after only a few months
Had mine on for three months and they quit working at night. Strange
I wonder how these would work in northern Canada with snow and minimal day light.
Hi Just Diesels...with the off/off design. what mode does it come with? Bright or medium? (i know it's not strobe)
I just installed these lights on my truck and honestly they are worth the money.
Ralph, how long did it take from your order until you received them?
@@samoyfire A few days, they are shipped via usps but they will ship it ups or FedEx if you ask them.
@@ralph7254 How are they working for you thus far? Thinking about ordering today...Thanks!

Which combo goes best with baja amber fog lights?
Great review with all pros and cons. What about wind noise at higher speed (75 miles on the highway or faster)? Any noise coming from this cab lights?
Nope! No noise at all.
@@JustDiesels Great. Thanks. Will order my lights now. It's a must have for every truck owner. And, no hazzle with leaking cab lights after drilling .
The price is too steep
Have you found less expensive ones with the same quality?
.
How would these work in Canada though?
Is the sight trust worthy as far as your card info
Do they have them for a 2022gmc sierra 2500 I only see lights for dodge and ford
How do you resync the light?
What is the purpose of the amber cover in front of the led if you are running an amber cover…is it necessary or does it make it even more amber?
It does make the light more amber!
I wish they would have the option to have them wired into the headlights, if they did that I'd 100% buy a set. Thanks for the video!
You do realize the point of these is to be WIRELESS
@@braydenbarry9014 The light is still wireless, there should just be an option to integrate that remote into the headlights so everything turns on without having to hit that remote. IE completely wireless if you want, or wire in the remote so you don't have to worry about turning the lights on or off.

Would be sick to have turn signals for the outer driver/passenger cab lights haha
I think that's excessive lol.
I can think of other words for that idea.
Wish they were powerful magnets instead !
I have them on my 07 5.9. And I find them annoying cause you never know when they’re fully charged so you’ll turn em on after “charging” for 2 day’s and when you get home an hour later they’re dead. You also dont know if they died during the drive. Wish they had a battery indicator of some sorts. I think it’s a cool idea but would rather them be wired into my light switch and have an oem spec even if that means drilling.

Solid video
Will they charge if they are covered in snow? Is there a chance the batteries will freeze?
They definitely won’t charge since the solar panel is obscured, but they won’t freeze!
What would you recommend for some type of fog light on my 2016 Ram 1500 Tradesman? The front bumper doesn't have the oem openings for factory fog lights.
If there’s no openings in the bumper, you’ll want to swap to the OEM bumper with fog light openings.
How many hours after a full charge do you get with the new on lights? And if two people are next to each other with cab over America lights is each key fob specifically synced for each set of lights so someone else cannot turn them on with their key fob from Cab over America?
They claim over 10 hours and I'd say that's accurate. I've yet to have mine die on a road trip that's 6 hours plus at night! One remote will turn on other sets, so that is something to consider if you park next to friends with the lights. I have two sets and both turn on with the remote.
Curious what did you paint your grille with? I’ve tried many products and always chipping...
This is a premiered factory grille that was painted to match. That’s the best route to go since painting the chrome doesn’t stick!
My ‘08 headlights suck, can you share what you did to yours bc they don’t appear stock.
They’re a custom built HID projector retrofit. That’s the way to go if you want the best you can buy!
How well do they stay put with being parked outside in sunlight with 100* weather
Had them in 120 degree palm springs heat without issue. Remember they use the same adhesive that holds on all your factory emblems and trim, so it’s not coming off!
do you was your truck yourself, or go through a car wash? Curious to know how these hold up in a car wash
You couldn’t rip these off the roof if you tried, but I’d never in a million years take this thing through a car wash! I like my paint haha
@@JustDiesels Amen to that lol
So I live in northern Alberta where it gets minus 30 to 40 during the winter, would these lights be durable enough to make it through that?
Honestly I wouldn’t know since I live in So Cal!
@@JustDiesels ahh gotcha, maybe I’ll call em
Something you didn’t address that I was curious about, once the suns goes down and they are fully charged how long do they stay on like per say you were driving all night on the highway how many hours would they last till they run out of battery?
It’s hard to say since I never sat there with a timer until they died. I did a few 4 hour road trips at night with them on and they ran the whole time though!
12 hours of run time on a full charge with a 3:1 charge time ratio
How do they hold up in the cold though?
How long will they last on a full charge? Nice lights
Typically around 6-8 hours in my experience!
How long do the last on battery at night that the real ?
1 hour or 12 hmmm that would be my interest can they run through a long night on a road trip. While you bought them for looks these are made to be more visible on road while towing. If they don't last at least 7 hours after sunset I'll pass.
Honestly it’s about 3 hours or so with my smoked lenses. Definitely not an all night type deal. The clear lenses actually translate to better battery life since the solar panels are more efficient.
@@JustDiesels cool thanks for the info....
Are the white ones truly white? Kinda wanna get them but I don’t want them to have a very off looking white tint compared to LED’s
They are pure white LEDs!
I can't find the company's phone number. I have two out of the five lights that won't turn on. They were working great for a month beforehand. But no matter what I do. They won't turn on.
where did you get your headlights from?
Custom built!
When I went to order these, you only get a one lens and one light choice. Not all three as your video says.
They should sell them separately if I remember right? I have all 3 lens colors.
Does anyone have a fix for this?. I purchased the cab lights and I got smoked lens and amber lights and It emits pink light. Like wtf. It also didn’t come with the small covers that go over the led to make it more orange
Shoot them an email!
@@JustDiesels do you know why it’s pink? Because if they sent me white with my smoked lens then I should still be a white, but no , it’s pink
they should make gm/chevy wireless cab lights
These are wireless so they work on any truck.
Does anyone know how these lights stand up in cold Canadian winters? Can’t find a review anywhere
My thought exactly. I live in northern New England and have my doubts how these will hold up charge wise during the winter with snow/cold.
How long did you have to wait for the delivery?
Not sure. Maybe 2 weeks or something?
@@JustDiesels oh it’s been almost 2 weeks since I ordered mine, can’t wait to have them!
COVID is making everything a mess! Just be patient and they’ll come!
is it bad to put these on 1500s?
Do whatever makes you happy! There’s no right or wrong way!
I’m liking the truck without the toyo rt on it
Same!
Can’t see the glow from the hood? To know they are on
How have these been holding up for you?
I've had a set for a few months now and they haven't really held their charge well, here in winter time.
The tinted lenses definitely don’t charge as well as the clears so that has an impact. Mine are still working well though! Had them on for about 6 hours the other day and only one died at the very end since it was partially shaded by a tree earlier that day.
"Reasonably priced" my ass
Can I buy the other ones
I think so? That’s a question their website can probably answer!
Not wired to the headlights? For that reason I’m out.
Save your money . They don’t hold charge and I live in florida so it shouldn’t be an issue . Overpriced and don’t work consistently
Can you get me the dimensions please
Well. I want cab lights on my truck
I would definitely be interested in these if you could wire them to turn on with the factory lights. Having a remote is just another thing to lose. Imo.
Thanks again for choosing us for your cab lights. We are always here for your support
Nice but way too expensive. The price point is the deciding factor.
Does any body out there know
But $400?

Your spacing is wrong on those lights
I decided to make them all even instead of the normal 3 closer in the center look. For some reason even look better to me.
FYI The 5 cab lights have meaning & purpose, the 3 center lights indicate a vehicle wider than 80", the 2 outer show width. I assume as not legally required on a truck less than 80" wide could be placed where ever you want because what they are indicating doesn't apply. Which is why I've never understood the attraction or why folks do this to std. trucks- but many do.
That said very good video.
per NHTSA: Required for vehicles 2032mm (80") wide or wider
Front Identification Lamps (ID):
Indicate presence of a wide vehicle (80"+) Exactly 3 Yellow on the front - centered - horizontally spaced 150 mm (6 in.) to 300 mm (12 in.) apart As high as practicable or on top of cab
Front Clearance Lamps:
Show vehicle's width Minimum 2 Yellow at widest point - symmetrical - on the front or near the front - facing forward As high as practicable
(Same for rear ID lights)
Sorry but ill spend 100 on lights..drill my holes...have properly installed onto factory harness..and keep the other 400$....sorry but they are ridiculous on price for some solar lights w some double sided tape...
Way too high priced
These lights suck so bad and the company is just as bad. Do not waste your time and money. You will regret it.
Garbage lights. Either done turn on or they don’t turn off. Done waste your money.
$400 for wireless cab lights? Na I'm good I'll just drill them into my truck and take 30 minutes to wire them up. If you want cab lights save yourself the $250 and just order the OEM kit from Dodge. Plus if you do want to put cab lights on you know that you already like them and wont be questioning your self after they are installed. Good Concept but I'll find something worthy of $400 to add to my truck. Good review tho.

Do these fit a Toyota Prius?
No, the tape will not stick to a Prius roof.
If a hardwired bluetooth module for the headlight switch became a thing, that's all I'd need to make the move.

Could probably use a relay on the running like circuit to trigger the switch.
@@vbadkin I would love it if instead of a remote you guys came up with a wireless switch one can just attach to the inside of the truck so the lights could just be turned on with just a flip of a switch like our lights at home. Just an idea thanks. Love the lights tho I will be getting some soon.
@@224chingonjust 3m tape or Velcro tape the switch somewhere. If you want more seamless you could probably remover the switch housing and flush mount it somewhere.
Sweet, now i may buy them.I didnt care for the 3 way option of the original ones.
Anybody else have this issue?: when I got my lights, only one remote was working. The second remote never worked from the beginning. I ignored it thinking it's probably just the batteries. But a week later after installation, my first remote stopped working too. I figured if I just changed the batteries, everything will be fine. But after putting brand new Duracell batteries, neither remote worked. So I contacted Cab Over America, and they sent me 2 new remotes. And I'm still having the same problem with one of the new remotes. I currently have only one working remote out of 4. I've replaced their batteries and still nothing. What could it be? It's driving me insane.
