What an unbelievable concert with the classic Yellowjackets lineup of Russell Ferrante, Jimmy Halip, William Kennedy and Marc Russo at the top of their game delivering quite possibly their greatest music ever. It doesn't get any better than this. I love it!

Most of us, i would imagine, have loved these guys for so long. Hearing this early music of theirs just delights me.... It is so melodic and accessible and skillful and joyous! Dang-They sound GREAT!
Im a musician from South Africa and i have listened to a lot of live shows on youtube, but this one had me to tears. To me personally this is the best I've ever seen from the YJ. And it's the 1st time watching this performance. Thank you so much for uploading this video.
Jimmy's solo on "One Family" is so stunningly well placed! It doesn't struggle against the intent of the song, it actually helps the song make a statement that would have been lost without its inclusion. This is genius!
I could cry when I hear older Jackets with Marc on horn.... NO COMPARISON....Mintier was a long time label mate buried.....like a water boy.. He made his connections to allow him to help get gigs overseas for years. ..gigs equal concert money. It also contributed to Jimmy leaving, too much travel, lower music quality.
I was 20 when I discover this amazing band.. I since listen to them now. Just to say that Marc Russo is really a great sax player, too underrated.. With a tone, a personnality and a "groovy" vocabulary. Thanks a lot for this rare footage.
Are you kidding? Who underrates Marc Russo? He is one the most respected alto saxophone players with his untouchable altissimo ranges, musicality and crazy chops in the music business.
This is some killer stuff the guys are on top of their game!! The most iconic line up of the band here i love it and i can't get enough of Marc Russo's alto sax. It got me hooked immediately the first time i heard it.
Yea mate one of my favorites, the sax and the bass ... I always crank up the volume. It is an amazing ballad. I cannot describe it in words. It blows my mind every time I hear it.

The Yellow Jackets band: Russell Ferrante: Keyboards Mark Russo: Saxophone Jimmy Haslip: Bass William Kennedy: Drums What a great line up!!!
I saw these guys in Merriville Indiana at the Star Plaza in the 80's. I was on the edge of my seat on every song. Incredible concert! Mark Russo is a beast!
Same! Would love to get my hands on it now. Do you have any info about it? All I know is that my folks taped it & various other artists from a Montreux special from ABC or SBS in early 90's (I'm in Australia) So many memories!
I wonder if the Jackets were digging the Zawinul Syndicate and vice-versa back in the late 80's. Shorter and Russo have some commonalities as does the keys. Austrian-California World Beat.
I don't care who you are, I don't mind your good looks or your pot belly, the Yellowjackets are a godsend, Marc Russo or Bob Mintzer I don't mind either, if it weren't for them I wouldn't be here probably, they are always at that last boulder where I stand and think aloud "I will prevail" no matter the situation

Grew up listening to the Shades album, still think this was the most iconic combo in YJ history.
Saw them in 87 in LA...i was a young sax player that used to worship Sanborn until i hear Russo....been my hero to this day

Will Kennedy… such an overlooked drummer. What a monster behind that kit

THE MOST PERFECT GROOVE TO THE NEW JAZZ FOR THE NEST 100 YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The greatest Jazz quartet on planet earth.
Jimmy's solo on "One Family" is so stunningly well placed! It doesn't struggle against the intent of the song, it actually helps the song make a statement that would have been lost without its inclusion.
This is genius!
I was gutted when I lost my old VHS recording of this. Brilliant to see it again. Thank you.
My favorite incarnation of the YJs. Digging that Martin curved Sop
There is a live open air concert of the YJ playing this tune with Jimmy Haslip wearing green shorts!
Something happened and the concert isn't there on youtube
@@JosiahE strange
It Begins with Wildlife and the top sax player Mr Marc Russo, YJ at their best period

YELLOWJACKETS ALL THEM GUYS ARE SUPER AMAZING IT TAKES ALOT TO KEEP IT WITH THAT MUSIC AND BEAT 🎵🎶🎷🎸🎺🎻🥁🎙🎤🎧📯🎹
Thanks so much for uploading. I love the Jackets when Marc Russo was on Sax. What a player!
I could cry when I hear older Jackets with Marc on horn....

@@rogerringold616 Yes. I had the privilege to see and hear them that year at the North Sea Jazz Festival ... Oh man was it good!!!
@@rogerringold616 Yep! Same here. When Marc left they were never the same. My favorite jazz band of all time. Glad I got to see them live a few times.
They STILL got it...Just saw them at Coltrane Jazz Fest in High Point NC....GREAT SHOW!!!
I was 20 when I discover this amazing band.. I since listen to them now.

Fantastic made my day seeing this rare stuff from the 80s. Thank you so much. I saw the Yellowjackets in that era amazing.
This is some killer stuff the guys are on top of their game!! The most iconic line up of the band here i love it and i can't get enough of Marc Russo's alto sax. It got me hooked immediately the first time i heard it.
Beautiful and warm rendition of the YJ's underrated fusion ballad "One Family". Thanks for sharing, love it!
Yea mate one of my favorites, the sax and the bass ... I always crank up the volume. It is an amazing ballad. I cannot describe it in words. It blows my mind every time I hear it.
The Yellow Jackets band:
Russell Ferrante: Keyboards
Mark Russo: Saxophone
Jimmy Haslip: Bass
William Kennedy: Drums
What a great line up!!!
Imo their most iconic line up!
Could have sworn I heard the weather channel local on the eight's music in there. 🤔
I saw these guys in Merriville Indiana at the Star Plaza in the 80's. I was on the edge of my seat on every song. Incredible concert! Mark Russo is a beast!
Unprecedented saxophonists Thank you for uploading it
I love the early stuff. The first time I heard them live was in 1984 at a club in Fort Lauderdale.
Thank you for uploading. I've always hoped to see a full set of classic YJs - Marc Russo is wonderful.
Awesome man, Im rediscovering old Yellowjackets tracks. Will Kennedy is so badass!
Best band ever. Ask ANY musician.
The Yellow Jackets are the best smooth jazz band of all time!
That Haslip, RUSSO and Will's solo..... wildlife is the first YJ song that drew me to them in the 1980s.... my favorite band!
Wow! This is awesome (even with the videotape distortions)!
Jimmy's solo is just too much to be dismissed! His smoothness is unreproducable, no one else plays it his way!
Totally agree. Got me tears
Where is it in the video?
my favourite basist of all time easily... his poise and abilty, musically on that instument he has no equal
I absolutely love this video concert!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
huge thanks to the uploader of this... pure quality

Great band - Great drummer..!
Has it been that long ago? 😮
oh man ....marc russo ...
Good formation, marc Russo monsters....thks for upload rare stuff.
Anyone have them playing Goin Home!? Not sure if it's '88 or '89 but I had it taped from the radio when cd101.9 broadcasted it live from montreaux
The only tune I know with that name was by the Average White Band, it’s an instrumental.
Which synth are RF using here? Is one of them a DX7?
I love their albums with Marc Russo, never understood how and why he moved from YJ to Doobie brothers?? completely different style..
Marc Russo the real star in the Yellow Jackets Group when they were the best around.......when Russo went out Yellow Jackets loose their best musician
Bob Mintzer is a great musician, but Marc is just so....EXCITING!
