I was blessed to meet Marc in Dallas. He was taking his son to a Ranger's game and I saw his license and I said "You spell your name just like my favorite sax player, and he said "who is that? I said Marc Russo! He played with the Yellowjackets". 45 minutes later we were still talking. Still my favorite sax player.
Four Corners, Politics and The Spin are the greatest trilogy of albums ever made by the Yellowjackets at their peak. The late 80s lineup of Ferrante, Haslip, Russo and Kennedy is the best ever.
Best Jazz group of the eighties. Best Jazz Album - Four Corners and Best song... Postcards. My favorite Jazz song of all time. Wish I could meet all of them to thank them for that album. Sorry to say it but when Marc left, they were never the same.
i met him at my place a jazz supper club in santa monica in 1986..he was a great guy and a as a fellow percussionist a great drummer....r.i.p. my man : )
My favourite alto player. Awesome playing. Not sure what mic he's been given here (looks like a Shure), but it's made his sound a bit thin and toppy. Either that or the sound engineer is to blame. Shame because he has a massive rich sound.
Like the first time I heard sound Yellow jacket with alto sax player in the midle 80's (politics album).same sound like first time i heard....i swear......

Agree 100%. Marc is my favourity alto player. Every so often I return to The Spin to remind myself how it should be done.

yellow jackets = marc russo ( king of the alto )
Nice tune, what's it called?
It's called "And You Know That" from their album entitled Shades
Original!
Gotta love Marc Russo! His sound is unique! I don't think there's another alto player that can sound that crispy, cheeky and funky!
