Excellent production Rick. Your knowledge of the the Caribbean islands and South America amazes me. Your videos are not only visually great to watch but the narrative you give about the history to explain about the places where you are at is truly appreciated. It must feel at times you are truly visiting a Sacred place and a little hard/sad to imagine what it was like in the past for the people that lived there.
Love the old forts..and so much history at that location! Thanks for filming it for us, and the surroundings as well. Can you imagine the battles fought there? To go back in time..
Another great vlog post Rick! Thank you!! Also, I wanted to voice my opinion that - of all the beautiful women who have come sailing with you, I believe that Valentina is the one who most exemplifies what a true ‘Sophisticated Lady’ is all about! Definitely a good find Rick!! 👍
Portobello ..... so deeply steeped in history .... the lesson most appreciated ☺ The cathedral .... stunningly beautiful venue to display the Cristo Negro ⛪ So good they are committed to restoration. Must have been tons of ceramic roofing tiles on site. Amazing superimposed pirates! ... a blast from the past. Lovely lavender colored flowers! Your drone footage was breathtaking. Stay safe ⛵ ⚓
Great video Rick. I really enjoyed the history lesson and the views of the old buildings and fortifications. The overlays of the ghostly battles was a good addition. 👍
Rick, its always nice to know more about the history in that area and you are showing the rest of us what it looks like today. Thanks Rick for that history tour.
An excellent video showing Portobelo and its history. Yes one only imagine what life was like during those turbulent times. In addition, apparently there were many deaths because of yellow fever and malaria in those times as well. It's a pity that the pirate movies could not have been a lot more realistic (instead of octopus heads and skeleton bodies etc) because there is more than enough good history to film a great pirate movie. And Portobelo is an exceptional and integral part of that history. You did a great job filming the treasure house and forts. Your drone work is always brilliant. The lovely lady of course ads another wonderful elegance to your videos. In 1989 when I travelled there in my 1969 VW campervan I don't recall having seen any yachts at all in the harbour. Things have certainly changed a great deal in thirty years.
Defiantly one of the best, that comes with great big thumbs up. I really enjoyed the historical trip back in time and ponder just how much has changed in such a short time. I suspect not very much. They just smile more. Thank you all for the update, and wish you all well. Steady on Rick and crew.!
As always, a highly educational and entertaining video. Your videos have gotten so much better in those two areas since you have spread your wing's and gone to new lands that you never went to before. I've learned about areas of the world that I knew were there, but very little else. Thank you.
I was there when I was a US soldier stationed in panama it seems the same as it was in 1986. That was a great blast from the past, thanks for that... They were very friendly and let us look over there beautiful church.
I'm always baffled by these small island commnunites like 380-382 no running water, no big industry, washed in garbage, poor, but they do have paint with numerous colors to paint their houses. You can tell their pride is their homes. I think it is wonderful to see color everywhere. : )peace
I was stationed in Ft Sherman and the jungle school. Portobello is a small but must visit sight in Panama. Thanks for this beautiful video of that area, and what a pleasure to see you with a beautiful Italian woman. Keep the videos coming for that area.
If you get to the Pacific side you must go see this. Just out side of Panama in San Talmo. This was the FIRST real submarine ever made. www.spiegel.de/international/spiegel/early-submarine-discovery-the-secret-of-the-pearl-islands-a-412287.html
Jim, my next videos will be about Ft Sherman.. do you have anything you might like to add? pictures, charts, stories, etc.. If so can email me at rick@AmbientRealLife.com
@@SailingSophisticatedLady Yes, and the marina that is there was part of the US Army area and be sure to go to the old spanish fort, fort Lorenzo. I will email you and I hope I can get some movies of the base for you.
I love your cinematography and wait eagerly for your videos every week. Thank you for doing such an amazing job and allowing us to live vicariously through your videos.
History is nice to hear from you Captain Rick, thank you for sharing this wonderful Planet with us. 🌎🌏🌍💙⛵🌬🌊 Btw, passion fruit juice is the best drink for relax. 🤙big Hug's for you guys. 🇺🇲🍺🥂
Great video, I’m a simple person, Captain Rick love your videos, You are very informative with everything that you do, you have nothing that I want, so I’m not gonna take it from you,It is a shame that people want what others have and they do not understand what they do have, the Lord will give us what we need if we seek him, it is wonderful that you have this opportunity to see the world and help other people, please keep our Lord in everything that you do,
Hi Rick, great video as always. I think this is the first time I have seen a video of Portobello, looks like a very interesting area. As always stay safe and keep having fun.
You out did yourself with the video special effects this time. Well done Rick! I'd like to do some serious metal detecting around and inside that fort, as well as out in the bay. Very nice episode. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Hi Rick, I follow quite a few cruisers. The videos really run the gamut in quality and content. I can honestly say that yours are among some of the best. Very professional quality and great content. I know how much time and effort you must put into them. Always a pleasure to watch. Please give Valentina a big hug for me. What an amazing woman. Safe travels.
Bars on the window and doors ... :-( On a bright note Valentina is quite special... one in a billion. Your two person crew is at a peck when this vlog was done. Keep making the memories Captain Rick and we will enjoy the glimpse of them.
Very cool video, do love getting an education from your postings and would enjoy having that experience continue thanks guys really enjoy your travels.
Portobello Panama, amazing history, nice people, and fantastic diving (at least back 37 years ago) just do not ever pick up any gold treasure otherwise when you get caught you will loose you gear, boat, car, (everything) and find yourself in jail :( Brings back very old memories
Hey Rick, been watching your channel for years.. Love it!! I'm a sailer from Toronto, (CS36) and just wanted to drop you a line to say hi. Interesting to note, I also had Africa Gray's. Lived in Nigeria for 3 years as a kid, 1973-1976 and raised four of them! I hope to be down sailing in the BVI's this winter.. Bruce F.
Thanks again Captain. You are making every stop such an enjoyable history lesson with the best video ever. keep it up. I think everybody should watch you.
Very nice job, great historically story line and I felt like I was seeing Portobelo with you. The fortress across the bay, east side is just as impressive. Amazing history and to anchor in the same place as Spanish Galleons and Pirate is a special memory.
Hey Rick...I wish you'd have had Valentina read those historic plaques & translate them into eeeenleeesh for us !!! Love the history !!! When you bring us to places like this it;s amazing !!! Thanks Much'o !!! Cheers from home... P.
Drakes Island is right outside portabello. Legend has it he is buried there. Find his lead coffin and the British will pay u well. used to spearfish and lobster around there as a kid. Play at the fort too. Did you get over to isla grande? hung out there quite a bit too. Being a teenager and with your girlfriend, what good times.
I think this is your best upload yet, Captain Rick! Like others, I loved the superimposed battle scenes. What a wonderful place, screaming with history for those who will listen, and see..
Great video and tour of where I would like to see but probably won't. For fun it would be neat to see how Tiki would do around those vultures. Parrots are pretty fierce and the vultures might be curious. Guess the regulations don't allow it. KUDOS on great video and those little clips dissolved into the fort. You are a great editor.
Loved this episode Rick. So much history and mystique. I’d love to travel there onboard a yacht of my own! Thanks for sharing and keep up the great work! Cheers, from Mike
I immediately wondered what lurks below those waters in the bay, shipwrecks, artifacts? I would assume there are regulations and laws about exploring underwater at Portobelo.
Great video. Production values seem awesome. (apart from the little hiccup in the opening scene!). Can't remember the last video from you with no blue skies... you must love those sunglasses! ;-)
The stone streets remind me of the stone streets in New Orleans when I grew up in the 1950's. I was told that the stones were ballast stones from ships.
Excellent production Rick. Your knowledge of the the Caribbean islands and South America amazes me. She is a good addition to the ship! She speaks multiple languages and money conversion.
Awesome little town. Really enjoy it when you show the cool places and give your Capt. Rick history lesson. Thanks Rick
Liked the special effects, brought it to life. I learned some great history as well. Awesome Capt. Thanks

Keep doing what you do!

Love passion fruit. Tip, buy more volume at the fruit stands, then negotiate, plus fruit is super anti-aging and produces healthy energy. Great story.
Nice video Rick, well done! Really enjoyed the special effects - clever! The lesson in history was really interesting.
I liked it and now I have a great new place I would love to go. You have a great crew Rick have fun!

Dang Capt, with a tad more dialogue, this is PBS quality. Actually better. 👍👍. Keep them coming. Very enjoyable 😀
Cap you make very fine video's...Thank you...!
The stone streets remind me of the stone streets in New Orleans when I grew up in the 1950's. I was told that the stones were ballast stones from ships.
Awesome video!!
Wow! history lesson thank you.

My best class in high school was history....Straight A's. Thank you for a new history lesson.
