Considering Hank was abusive to Janet in the comics and even more so in the Ultimate comics, I don't think Hollywood is wrong to focus on Scott who is by far a much better person.
crypticbeliever123 Hank Pym in the Ultimate universe was a wife beater and generally just a huge asshole. Hank Pym in the main comic universe (616) was a mentally unstable man under a lot of pressure who lashed out and smacked his wife away, when she tried to stop him from doing something he thought he had to do. He has been working to make up for that ever since, and Jan (his wife) has long since forgiven him. So has pretty much everyone else in the Marvel universe. He has not yet forgiven himself, though.
Don't forget his time with the West Coast Avengers when he just went as Hank Pym, the scientific adventurer. He couldn't grow or shrink himself anymore, but he had a jumpsuit full of pockets of equipment he could shrink and grow by touching them. He also had Rover, his little robotic transport, that went with him on his adventures.
Carl Koree Ochah the thumbnail was Giant Man In his super heroing career he’s been Ant-Man, Giant-Man,Goliath, Yellow Jacket, and Wasp, and now dead Thank god because he was an psychotic freak
Hank Pym is my favourite superhero. While I enjoyed the Ant-Man movie for what it was, and I like Paul Rudd's version of Scott Lang, I hate that it had to cost Hank Pym basically his entire legacy: In the comics he's the original Ant-Man, Giant-Man, Goliath and Yellowjacket, all using powers he invented, he's an Avenger and he is the creator of Ultron (not a good thing, but still impressive and central to his character). In the movies, he's the original Ant-Man. That's it. He's too old to even be an Avenger, and Ultron's creation went to Tony Stark. Oh well, at least he still got to invent the Ant-Man suit. That's something.
I agree with you. I love the movies but they skip out on important things from the comics. I myself like Nova ( the original Rich Rider) and I hate how guardians didn't even mention him when he was a big part of forming the modern term. Now they replaced him too in the comics so I understand how you feel.
nova phoenix They'll probably use Nova at some point, but it might be the new kid instead of Rider. I'm not really familiar with Nova's history, but it's something you get used to when you're a Hank Pym fan. Every single one of his identities has been used by someone else, and the only one that isn't used by someone else currently is Yellowjacket. When the MCU was just starting, I looked forward to getting a movie that would put Hank Pym in the spotlight. After all, everyone knows who Iron Man is now. Then we got the Ant-Man movie, and now everyone knows who Ant-Man is: "It's Scott Lang! Oh, and there's that old guy"
+Alex Larsen Yeah that's exactly how it is with the new Nova. It makes me sad that most people won't know how awesome some of these heroes really are in the comics. I also hate how marvel tries to change all the characters now. I don't really like to read the newer comics, as I enjoy the older ones. Hank Pym was really cool back then in the Avengers and it's a shame the wasp and him never got to be counted as founding members in the movie.
nova phoenix Originally, they were going to be in the Avengers movie, but their names were tied up in the Ant-Man movie, which was under production before the MCU even started, so they were replaced with Hawkeye and Black Widow.
+Alex Larsen Yeah I remember hearing that. Hawkeye is another character I think isn't done as well as I would like. Oh well, it was nice talking to another fan that is as passionate as me. Thanks :)
There's interesting aspects of Hank Pym that weren't touched on here - the fact that he hit Janet resulting in her divorcing him, that he was actually the creator of Ultron and that he lost his mind because everything he tried to do resulted in more violence, which is when he became yellowjacket. He's really one of the most tragic figures in the MCU.
I'd like to see one of these origin videos for ROM Spaceknight. Given his new IDW incarnation and comic series, now might be a good time to capitalize on that.
I really think MCU Yellowjacket was the best decision for the Ant-Man movie! Having Darren Cross as him instead of Pym was a smart move! Worked with the movie and he has been one of the cooler looking MCU villains! That costume is so Dope!
Anyone who wants to read any or all of these stories can check out the Avengers TPB The Many Faces of Henry Pym. It collects all of these issues and more giving a complete history of the character!
It would probably be confusing since they established Yellowjacket as Darren Cross in the MCU. I liked the way they handled Yellowjacket in Avengers: EMH, personally.
Not only has the Yellowjacket name been given to a villain in the MCU, they've also made Hank Pym too old to fight under any of his aliases anymore. They really screwed up Hank Pym's legacy.
Spot Light They didn't screw up his legacy? In the comics he's a founding Avenger, the creator of Ultron, as well as the first Ant-Man, the first Giant-Man, the first Goliath and the first Yellowjacket, all using powers he invented. In the movie, he's the first Ant-Man, and that's it. The Avengers formed without him, Ultron was made by someone else, Yellowjacket is a different person and a villain, his wife is dead, and one more thing which is a spoiler, so I'll mention it below the main comment. Additionally, he is now too old to be anything more than a tech provider and a voice in Scott's ear. v Spoilers below v SPOILERS: Scott Lang is the first Giant-Man (at least the first one we see)
Because that was Darren Cross. In the movie things weren’t as complicated and AntMan wasn’t going to go through all of these phases... It would’ve been awkward having both the hero and the villain named Yellow Jacket.
When yellow jacket was first introduced he was a villain I think the book came out in the late 60's or early 70's. He was a better villian than he was a hero...gave the avengers fits. I have a box full of the older comics but I don't have that one.
WatchMojo should have also said, "...aka The Wasp" during the intro of this video. Yes, they mention it at the tail end of the video, but it still should have been stated. The statement was about all of his costumed identities, so that brief tenure should have been included in the sentence.
Alex Larsen I don't recall Scientific Adventure era. If that was a costumed identity, then yes. It should have also been mentioned. However, I recall there was a time when he wasn't using any kind of costumed identity. He was still having adventures with the Avengers or Force Works or Avengers West or something. But he was just Hank Pym, like how Jean Grey stopped being Marvel Girl or Phoenix and was just Jean Grey. If that is the era you are referring to, then no. That would not count.
High Heel Knight Yeah, I know. I was mostly joking. It was the era you mentioned, where he didn't use an alias or a costume, beyond just having an outfit with a lot of pockets. He began that period by saying he would be "Hank Pym, Scientific Adventurer", so that's why I called him that. It's the only distinct name for that version of Hank Pym.
Does anyone know the name of a superhero who wears a blue superhero type suit with verticle white lines and a circular design in the middle? He was in some comic book I used to have and I can't get any information on it. It's really starting to piss me off.
Hank Pym created by Stan Lee, Larry Lieber & Jack Kirby. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hank_Pym The Yellowjacket identity was created by Roy Thomas & John Buscema. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellowjacket_(Marvel_Comics)

Hold on so the aliens have the technology to erase scientists to another dimension, but they can't make a damn atom bomb
Braxton Birchard It’s comics dude. If you think this was weird, I guarantee there was a Batman villain who had no face, but could talk and breath.
That’s silver age comics for ya

Comic Book Origins: Professor Pyg :D
:)
If you are referring to Hank's last name it is Pym not Pyg.
***** No I mean Lazlo Valentin aka Professor Pyg from Batman.
+Niall Dempsey oh ok what does that have to do with Marvel's aka Ant man Giant Man Goliath and Yellow Jacket?
Yes Hank needs more love. I feel so bad that the movie focused on Scott and not him, not to mention how Ultron is using him not in the comics.
Yes!
Considering Hank was abusive to Janet in the comics and even more so in the Ultimate comics, I don't think Hollywood is wrong to focus on Scott who is by far a much better person.

crypticbeliever123 no hes not, he accidentally hit her, hank is way fucking better
I've always loved Ant-Man.He was a moron for creating Ultron though. That was a bad move.
Very true.
Let's be honest, Hank Pym makes the worst decisions every single time.
Ultron is a pretty cool villain though.
Didn't he also create that Thor Robot clone during the Civil War that killed the previous Goliath?
Oh shit Did he? Cause when I read that I was like Nooooo!!!! But I should've know at the time that there would be casualties of war.
Don't forget his time with the West Coast Avengers when he just went as Hank Pym, the scientific adventurer. please do Azrael I've been asking for a very long time

someone been playing Batman
You are supposed to ask them on their website
i did that 20 times already and it has yet to be made
it's an ice cream in sweden
But.. he's red in the thumbnail :(
thats giant man
Because Hank Pym who's Yellow Jacket was also Ant-Man/Giant Man
+Dylan Bright He was also Goliath :)
and you have no idea whats all about
Carl Koree Ochah the thumbnail was Giant Man
In his super heroing career he’s been Ant-Man, Giant-Man,Goliath, Yellow Jacket, and Wasp, and now dead
Thank god because he was an psychotic freak
I think you should've mentioned the fact that the name Yellow Jacket was dawned by the villain in the Ant-man movie
Will Hank Pym ever settle on one Superhero name?
He did settle with Giant Man for a # of years, that is until he was fused with his creation Ultron.
He did, he's now the new Wasp.
+Martin Guzman No he isn't Wasp currently his ex Wife and daughter are the Wasp currently. He gave Janet the name back when she came back to life.
Cyclone1293 Janet came back to life? how did that happen?
+Martin Guzman I think she was missing presumed dead, and they found her in the Microverse.

yellow jacket was the main villain in ant man
I love these comic book origins!
ah yes, one of my favorite Marvel Characters
Thank you! :)
thanks for doing Yellowjacket
Lol
So the video's titled for Yellowjacket, but the thumbnail has Giant-Man in it?
I'm early
What were you expecting a joke?
no
Not really
No😩😩😩

Wow Rom in the MCU I collected his comic book for a while.

You left out the years Hank Pym spent with the West Coast Avengers under the name of Doctor Pym .
I cosplay the classic Yellowjacket
Bring back yellow jacket
It's been a few years-but I'd like you to cover "Cloak & Dagger". Thanks!
Yellow Jacket has the best duds .
How they made the Yellow jacket name the villain in Ant Mans movie was my only complaint .
Do Squirrel Girl!!! That would be awesome.
Giant Man was the first persona of Pym that I ever saw.
Yellow Jacket needs a solo film at the end of Ant-Man trilogy.
It would probably be confusing since they established Yellowjacket as Darren Cross in the MCU. I liked the way they handled Yellowjacket in Avengers: EMH, personally.

Alex Larsen it isn't a screw up, they had to change a few things, and I have seen every MCU film. so no Spoilers.
Do ocean master and bronze tiger please
Aliens could travel through space but couldnt split an Atom lol
Do one on Sheena queen of the jungle.
why the freaking movie is Yellow jacket is a Villain!!!
Probably because he doesn't have a rogues gallery to chose from.
Because that was Darren Cross. In the movie things weren’t as complicated and AntMan wasn’t going to go through all of these phases... It would’ve been awkward having both the hero and the villain named Yellow Jacket.
I know sucks because I would of loved them to do a yellow jacket story as him as a good guy in the mcu

can you do kang from marvel for surper villain origin
4:34 And then he disgraced the whole point of that by macking on Ultron disguised as Janet. No I am not making that up.
Anyone else find Hank Pym a little attractive in the average: earths mightiest heroes?
*cough* me *cough*
Yeah.
A little?
I wonder if Rita Demara aka yellowjacket will be in marvel Cinematic.
How the fuck do I keep you aw-...you know what, draw a circle, no more Sea-Bear.
So Yellowjacket is Antman?

He started out as Ant-Man, then Giant-Man, and Goliath.

Do the origin of David haller aka legion
You forgot to mention that now Hank is fused with Ultron and is now using that name as a hero.... so yhea
Maz from Shezow has even more secret identities than Pym.
Why did you put a picture of hank pym in his giant man costume instead of in his Yellowjacket costume?
Antman movie was good. They need a movie to explain everything that's in this video. But still have it be interesting and action packed. I understand it would have to be spread out over more than 1 or 2 movies like Cpt. America.
I always wondered why he kept changing his superhero name, now I know
Hank Pym had a pretty big inferiority complex, so he kept reinventing himself, so he wouldn't feel like an ant among giants in the Avengers.
+Alex Larsen I like what you did there.
Awho Chen
Thanks. It's pretty easy to make puns about Hank Pym though. It takes very little effort. No big deal.
he's even fused with ultron now too
can you guys do shuma gorath plz
why does the video show a picture Giant man cover of the video when the origin story is about the yellow jacket?
They're not talking about Darren Cross from the Ant-Man movie, but rather Hank Pym who don the name as one of his many personas.
+TransformMarvel I'm talking about Hank Pym yellow jacket, not Darren Cross yellow jacket.
+TransformMarvel he was talking about the comic book version of yellow jacket
