  • @thedragon12

The interesting thing about this movie is how it's deeply religious at the same time. All the ancient civilizations ever have depictions of some sort of UFO or aliens on their walls the "true" Gods if you will... So it's interesting that they picked their new Adam and Eve and dropped them close to the new tree of knowledge of good and evil.

    • @kel5423
      @kel5423 20 дней назад

It wasn't the tree of "knowledge of good and evil". Adam and Eve already ate from that tree and damned humanity in the process, including the children that were taken. The tree is most likely the "tree of life", which was also in the "Garden of Eden". Eating from it would allow the children to grow, but live very long lives. This would be needed in order for them to populate the planet. In the original story...the "fall" and subsequent decadence of human nature caused Adam and Eve to be cast out of the "Garden of Eden". A celestial guard was placed there to prevent humans from ever finding it again. This was to keep them from eating the fruit from the "tree of life" and then living exceptionally long lives. Just imagine if some of the most evil people in history were to live a thousand years.

I consider this film a guilty pleasure of mine because it's not very well received/respected. I love end of the world and apocalyptic films, and this one is tons of fun.
Side note, whomever was the casting director was they did an outstanding job casting Lara Robinson as Abby/Lucinda, because she looks exactly what I would think a young Rose Byrne would look like.

this movie reminds me of an old Outer Limits episode. There were these men dressed in black. 1 guy noticed that whoever he saw them around would suddenly go missing. He started getting scared and suspicious. When one of the guys in black came to him he was so scared he shot him and they left. They disappeared into the sky and right after they were gone these air raid sirens came on and he realized it was the end of the world. The men in black were actually there to save him. He was one of the chosen ones but when he shot one he ruined his chances of being saved. OMG I loved that episode

The creation of this movie actually started with a public art project/contest. It's so long ago I don't remember details, but I did see an ad for the results at the time the winners were announced. 1st people just submitted art drawings (totally hand drawn or computer generated), paintings, & photography (with or without special effects added) all inspired by just a couple of key words given in the ad announcing the contest. Then someone judged the art & they chose like the top 100 winners (who were each given a small prize). Then the writers played around with all the pictures up on a series of storyboards, fiddling with them until like a young children's picture book they seemed roughly in the "right" order to start suggesting parts of 1 big story. For instance one of the pictures showed a slightly alien landscape because there was a sky that wasn't blue, a field of strangely colored wheat & a great silver tree in the distance but 2 human children running towards the tree. That picture was put last, deciding that was some kind of utopia/heaven.
Then the writers used the pictures like an official story board, only in reverse of how it usually goes, to create the story from the pictures. There was no script until then, despite the funding for the movie being ready & even some of the actors chosen.

I still understand why Christians hated this movie By the ending where the two aliens take the kids up with them along with the other children in spaceships And they were basically trying to make It look like the rapture And them running towards This alien tree that represents the tree of life I was baffled and confused by the end of at first time watching The real rapture we all know is when god takes All the believers home A lot of people also believe that aliens exist and will abduct us and experiment on us In my opinion , I don't believe it in aliens And i'm a christian myself and I believe in the rapture But with that aside I thought it was a very interesting move for this movie Thanks again for checking this out @It'saprimate

I assume all the other ships hold 2 children of each ethnicity in order to start over. Abby and Caleb were the chosen Caucasian children, so I believe the others are different ethnicities from all over the world. Only children can go since they are young and still pure of heart. The tree at the end symbolizes the one in the Garden of Eden that held the Forbidden fruit.

About a year ago or so I had the most vivid dream & I was in it saying I wash my cats were with me because the air was about to get set on fire like a nuke went off or the sun did this! It was so real when I woke up I was like WTF?!?
My one of 2 cats died last year one left but she is 14 now he was 13!
I’m expecting something to happen since the election is coming some shit is gonna go down lol!
Hope it wasn’t a vision in my dream LOL!

This movie is underrated but it’s true there are certain things that don’t make sense especially regarding the selection process. Like if they knew that much about the future, why did they warn a little girl 50 years before when she would die anyway before everything unfolded? That didn’t really impact the children’s fate, clearly just stalking the chosen ones the way they had been doing was enough. And when you realize that, you realize that 75% of the movie is pretty much built on sand and useless.

It is a little convoluted. I know the kid says, “they sent a message ahead”, but you’re right that the numbers are too inscrutable to be an effective warning.
Best reasoning I can come up with is that the kids are kind of acting like open telepathic receptors. Information is getting to them, but it’s mostly incomprehensible and overwhelming to them. They don’t immediately know what the numbers mean or what specifically is going on. They aren’t even always aware they wrote them. So it’s almost like the aliens are trying to talk to them but *can’t* actually do it all that effectively. It’s like there’s a translation gap that can’t be bridged and the only thing really able to get through cleanly is numbers.

This movie does not have a single redeeming quality. It's stupid from beginning to end. Why are we pretending this is a good movie? 30% on rotten tomatoes is even too high for this garbage.

Thoroughly ridiculous movie, one of the worst I've seen. Nothing Cage does makes one whit of difference, meaning it's basically a "shaggy dog" story. Worse, it's a shaggy dog story with a blatant and almost literal Deus ex machina ending... the way the aliens and ships look, the movie clearly was pushing for you to see them as angels or something.
The fx look largely ok (except when Cage is putting his hands in fire), but watch the plane scene again: the cop is looking down the road when he sees the plane and panics, except the plane is coming from 90 degrees to the right of that! The camera even acknowledges this by first looking were the cop is looking then panning hard to the right. Wtf? I'm astonished this wasn't caught and fixed.
The subway train derailment? Cartoon physics that are embarrassing. A subway is a light train yet this one crashes and crashes for a full minute, while taking out masonry column after column, and destroying car after car on other trains. Yet it remains mostly intact
Sorry, that subway train isn't a freight train with a couple hundred loaded cars. It wouldn't have even made it into the station!
There are many many other problems!

Primate noted this: when they were searching for Lucinda, why are they using flashlights instead of turning on the school lights? This is either dishonest or sloppy movie making, creating drama that shouldn't be there.
The gas station guy? It's pandemonium there. How in the world would he know that Diana's car was stolen with the kids inside?
