Folks, there were a few things I didn't get to talk about since I shortened the gameplay footage to mercifully spare you from too much exposure to this toxic goo. Just so you know I didn't forget them, here they are: 1. You may not have noticed, but your opponent's energy bar constantly refills. Yours does not. Awesome. 2. There are no sound effects in the game. Music only and just that one track during gameplay. 3. I know that in the US some platforms got a different version of Street Fighter. The C64 for example had a terrible Tiertex (Yechhhh) version in the UK but a slightly better version in the US from Pacific Dataworks International. I've actually owned a retail copy of that (paid for and everything!) since it was new. It even has the three special moves! Maybe I'll show you that some time.
I feel like Tiertex were the guys real programmers hated. They wrote everything in higher level languages so it would be portable instead of machine code so everything ran like 2fps. Then they could easily port their crap to other machines so it could run like shit there too. The only time I can think of that I can actually appreciate this was Paul Woakes, he wrote Mercenary for the Atari ST and then wrote an ST emulator for the Amiga so the Amiga version of Mercenary is actually the ST version running in his emulator...... :P That's actually respectable in a weird way
The one they call Inglebard. I was 12 years old. I went on holiday with my grandparents to give my folks a bit of a rest from my ADHD-addled self, and also because we were moving house, and it just made some sense to get me out of their way for a couple of weeks while they got it done. Anyway, in the arcades on holiday they had a Fatal Fury machine, a Super Monaco GP machine which you could get free credits out of 9 times out of 10, a Simpsons machine which all the kids used to play 4 player on, and a Streetfighter 1 machine. Having played a little SF2, I knew how to do the fireball, spinning kick and Shoryuken, but it simply wouldn't work on the arcade. I eventually figured out that just rolling the button in a quarter circle while spamming punch would throw out random fireballs & Shoryukens enough to get by. By the end of that holiday I had been able to complete the game on 1 credit. On the way home, which was only like a 2 hour drive, we stopped in a service station somewhere up the highway and I made a beeline to the game magazines but I also found a place that sold games, what what do you know? They had Streetfighter for the Amiga for like 4.99. Bargain!! The screenshots looked great, with big, clear characters, backgrounds which looked just like the arcade version, if a little plainer in the colour palette which was perfectly common with Amiga arcade ports, nothing I couldn't get over quickly. And because this was an old arcade and not particularly impressive technically even by 1987 standards, I was excited by this find. Could not wait to get it home. Home being somewhere I had never live before, remember. Never slept there before, didn't know anyone within a 5 mile radius. Drowning my sorrows with a competent port of Streetfighter was just the ticket. Then, after a short loading period, the game finally started... The game was so bad that it actually made me hate my Amiga. I never got to play Human Killing Machine, but it looks every bit as bad as Streetfighter.
It's equally bad, just in a slightly different way. It's a little faster than SF on the Amiga, but the tradeoff is there's no scrolling and the playable fighting area is tiny.
I never knew this existed at the time and I'm quite grateful for that. The janky kick reminded me of playing Brutal: Paws of Fury on the Mega CD and I thought that was bad. I'd say IK+ on the Spectrum looks more fun to play!
It's hard to properly describe how bad HKM is using simple human language. Maybe someone can create an interpretative dance that will convey the proper emotional firestorm that it conjures within the unfortunate gamer! Also, Brutal sucks, lol, but nowhere near as much as HKM!
I might! I've been thinking about doing some videos on modern Amiga ports of stuff like Gradius, Bubble Bobble, Rygar and the rest. There's also a homebrew version of SF1 headed to the Genesis.
I never thought a fighting game could get worse than Amiga SF1... until I saw HKM. The opponent AI and character animations are risible. Having the opponents regen their health is just cheap.
Well, the thing is this was developed by Tiertex (Yechhhhh). They were notoriously terrible at making games and did lots of awful arcade ports across multiple platforms. The Amiga did get a lot of junk, but it was really capable for when it came out and has some great stuff, too. But games from Tiertex (Yechhhhhh) though, they were in a category of awful all their own.
I'd heard this was their follow-up of sorts to street fighter... but man, what a massive downgrade! sounds about right for tiertex (yecccch!) and I thought rise of the robots was awful...
I found this video really boring. I like Tiertex, I think they are a good developer who were just tasked with programming for literally every single platform and given not enough time to do so. They are legends. I had enough after just 4 minutes. I heard it all before. I don't like mud slinging when it's just this game. Yeah we all know about it already. It just feels pointlessly callous.

It's amazing that the company was around until just a few years ago. They only closed up shop in 2021. Crazy, right?

"Nachtclub" is Dutch, so it probably is The Netherlands, Amsterdam.
Ah, thanks!
I think its Germany, as the opponent is named Maria.
And Helga
@@freddyr8318 Maria is just as Dutch. Helga could also be. Also, there is already a very obvious German stage in the game.
