  • There are so many games on the Amiga that it wasn't easy to create a top 100.
    It's not the top 100 best rated games, more of a list based on my memories and feelings from childhood.
    Have fun with the video and feel free to write in the comments if you think I've forgotten a few games.
    Special thanks to HALL OF LIGHT who provided me with the cover scans.
    Take a look at their incredibly cool homepage:

    A lot of omissions for my liking. Sensible Soccer, Populous, Walker, Black Crypt, Dungeon Master, F1GP, Colonization, Ishar, Powermonger, Perihelion, Shadow of the Beast, Street Fighter II, Gods, Super Skidmarks, Gunship 2000, Xenon 2 and definitely Benefactor and fury of the Furries. Oh and Hired Guns playing with 3 other mates swarmed around a tiny TV back in the mid 90s was incredible fun!
    Everyone has different tastes and I can agree with a lot of this video but the above games are a non negotiable for a top 100 Amiga games.
    Thanks for the video though, brings back many good memories.

    A brilliant original list of games here for what I consider the golden age of the amiga from 89 to 92. There are obviously other games after that but the growth and development of programming in that period was something else

    There are lots of great games on here, including many of my favourites - Civ, The Settlers, UFO, Historyline, Indiana Jones & the Fate of Atlantis, Lotus 2, Moonstone...well, I could keep on going. As for suggestions to add to such a list, a game that I never played until recently was Rodland, released in 1990 or 1991. It's a great arcade conversion that I would urge anyone to give a go, simple controls but very fun. A fond memory for me is a game we got on budget early in our ownership of the Amiga (which was bought for us by Dad for Xmas '91); RBI Baseball 2. In a similar vein to UFO I would add Sabre Team (controls weren't as refined as those of UFO, though, but in its favour for people like me it has realistic weaponry). Roadkill was a good racer from 1995, and earlier there were the very fun Indy Heat and Off Road Racing. Oh, and Skidmarks! Subwar 2050 was another late game, as was Virocop, both worthy titles. IK+ and Panza Kick Boxing were fun fighting games, the latter probably being the pinnacle of single player fighting on the Amiga. Future Wars was a good point 'n' click adventure. Don't think I noticed Geoff Crammond's F1 GP in this list either, surely the best simulation racing game on the Amiga and on any platform in the early 90s. Vroom is a racing game from the same year (1991) that was more arcade but with wonderful speed and precise control with the mouse - hard to learn but allowing complete control of the vehicle. Which brings me on to No Second Prize...one could go on forever!

      Not everybody likes football games :) I do, but I don't care for puzzlers or platformers much, so they wouldn't feature in my own top 100 Amiga games that I remember most fondly. As the video description says, this list is based on the uploader's personal memories and feelings. For me Manchester United in Europe and Double Dragon 3 would be high on such a list, as would Final Fight, even though objectively all three games could be heavily criticised. For me they were games I played early on in our Amiga owning days and I got a lot of pleasure from them (DD 3 & Final Fight largely because I was 10-11 years old and obsessed with fighting games and films).

    Ah, Lure of the Temptress, one of the games I remember from my childhood and forgot the name of to find and play it now!
    Maybe you can help me with another one though, that I didn't find scrolling through your video:
    You control two characters (moving together). Top downish view, you could either move around a town on the streets, or go down into the sewers, and you could buy and use various costumes for the characters which would let you do things.
    e.g. you could get a snail costume and then you'd have access to snail races to make money, or you could dress up like a child and then you could make money playing a minigame of "hit the line" against kids.
    I couldn't much into English back then, and I remember very little other than you'd get arrested, and that you could rob a (judge's?) house to steal his stamp collection.
    Does that ring a bell to anyone?

      Most were not Amiga exclusives (the video doesn't claim they were) but also most were not converted FROM consoles, a lot of the time it was the other way around. A lot of the point and click adventure games were made first for PC then ported to the Amiga. I couldn't think of any on the list which were actually made for consoles and then ported to the Amiga.

    You can keep your top three. But that's just me. They're not my thing. I would go 1 Syndicate, 2 Worms, 3 Lemmings.
    One thing I am puzzled by tho... No Populous. Did I miss that? Did you never play it? Or do you genuinely think it's that bad? I know it's probably not top 10 material but surely it's better than some of the sketchiness on this list. 😕

    • @Retrospective-Games
      @Retrospective-Games  10 месяцев назад +3

      You are right. I never played Populous. Do you think it's worth catching up on today?

    • @ColaSpandex
      @ColaSpandex 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@Retrospective-Games it's very hard to say if you would get any pure gaming pleasure from it. As with any game it's a question of personal preference. What works for me might not work for you.
      But if you're trying to build a channel about retro gaming then it's probably worth a try because it does have some historical significance. From that point of view (a broad base of experience) it is worth having under your belt, even if it's not your thing.
      One thing to note... Even if it is your "cup of tea" there is a learning curve to get through before you can really start to enjoy it. You will need a manual and a fair bit of patience. It's not a variation on a theme like the latest FPS or platformer. It's pretty unique.
      Maybe search for some videos first. See if it appeals and then decide.

    • @Retrospective-Games
      @Retrospective-Games  10 месяцев назад +1

      Wow. Thank you for the detailed answer. You are certainly absolutely right. Bute i will give it a try.
      Would you recommend the Amiga or another platform anyway?

    • @ColaSpandex
      @ColaSpandex 10 месяцев назад +3

      @@Retrospective-Games part of the reason for my detailed reply...
      When it comes to electronic gadgets the Amiga is the love of my life. And that's not just a gaming thing (as it is for some). The Amiga was an all round tool for creative types who couldn't afford professional equipment. We used it to make music, although the ST may have had a slight edge in that department. We used it for coding (big hobby of mine back then). And it's really hard to talk about the history of digital animation, ray tracing, etc, without mentioning the Amiga. I could go on. In fact, I could talk about it all day.
      And that might seem alien to younger generations who do all this stuff on PC or Mac nowadays but in those days you would need to remortgage to get a machine like that. You wouldn't find them in bedrooms or basements. They were for running accounting software and databases in offices and whatnot. Two different worlds. Two separate markets. Even towards the late nineties a PC for the home was a major investment. For underground/indi hobbyists on a tight budget like me the A500 (with it's 512k RAM, custom chipset and midi port) was a gift from the gods.
      I don't just recommend the Amiga above any platform ever. I say... Let us build a temple, get down on our knees and praise the lord of all number crunching machines. 😂

    • @danyoutube7491

      I only played Populous recently via emulation - without the manual I couldn't do very much, but in any case I don't think it's my sort of game. I remember a friend back then raving about it, and of course it was highly praised in magazines, but we all have different tastes. Incidentally another game that I didn't play until recent years via emulation, Rodland, I found to be immensely fun and wish I'd played it in the 1990s as well.
