Hi Cody, on my way to pick up a Yamatic hose. That Ole Girl is looking nicer & better each time I see her. She’s almost ready to come to California. Cheers buddy🍾🍻
Cody, if you go to napa they can match your paint in spray cans , spray on the bad areas then wet sand it again, those areas , then buff it and polish it and you will like it better than clear coat ! Put the missing chrome on it and go WOW !
@@CarolinaCustomClassics no drive the car there , they put a type of gun to a good part of the paint and it takes an image then tell them how to mix the paint
No snow??? Hope it missed your area. You get to work on your '57 Chev! You have to take it easy on us 65 year olds you know... This is looking very good!!! Thank you, be blessed too!!!!
The car is looking good dude it’s awesome I like the way how your wet sand that car looks like the true colors coming out I like the teal blue like that
When you get done with this phase of the job, she's gonna look pretty righteous on the outside, but then I think when you take a good long look, you're gonna come to the conclusion that she deserves some upholstery. At least some clean comfortable seats. This car is slowly but surely turning into a class act. Maybe you could find somebody who does upholstery and barter it out, labor for labor, with something you can do in exchange. I'm an electrician, and I used to save thousands of dollars by doing labor barters like that. You just have to make sure youre dealing with somebody you can trust. All in all, you've really got something great taking shape here, keep up the good work and bring her all the way home!!!
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! Thats a great idea, I definitely need to redo them. I will post around on facebook and see what I can find, thanks!
Looking good so far, Cody... Glad the old girl still has some decent paint under the primer... I know how your fingers, hands, and body feels...Not too long after I got out of High School, I worked for a year in a paint and body shop,, my job eight hours a day, 5 days a week, was Wet Sanding/prepping every vehicle to be ready to be sprayed...Then once they were painted and the paint was cured, I had to buff, then wash, and do all the detail work on the inside before it went back to the customer...Work was hard but the pay was good,, and I gained a lot of knowledge about primers/ paints,, and what you can and can’t do with them... The one thing our painter told me that I’ll never forget was,,, If the body work and prep isn’t flawless,, The paint ain’t going to hide it And it’ll look like crap... no matter how slick you get it...lol Keep up the good work my friend....
I'd love to see the car repainted the same original color. Not a patina fan myself. But I have a 57 that was originally a shade of blue like yours. Called Harbor Blue. Previous owner primered over it before I got it. You did a great job in this video. Keep up the great work bro.
Cody the 1957 Cevy you did an amazing job absolutely amazing what a difference, it looks awesome keep up the good work and put some ice packs on your hand ☺️😊👍🏽💥
I did an early 60s Cadillac the same way with 1000 grit, then instead of doing the clear coat, rubbed the whole thing down (about 5X) with a solvent based polish that leaves a coating similar to clear. There are a couple brands of the stuff that seem to be the same fomula; TR3 Resin Glaze, Nu Finish (orange bottle)... that gave me the best looking high gloss finish.
That green sure is a nice color and you have done a wonderful job on saving it. Most people would have taken a DA sander and sanded the hell out of it and the green would have been gone forever, Old car is looking more like a old girl that has aged well and now ready to Party again.
That's so cool how the old paint shows its patina! You've done a great job on your 57 Cody! And yeah buddy I can only imagine how your arms and hands feel. But your a young guy you got this man👍
Yes sir I know the wet sanding is hard work but its worth it your car looks great. Looking forward to seeing it finished with the clear coat on it . All the best to your and yours from an old SC man that wishes he were still there, cheers.
This is one of those hard work pays off jobs Cody. The harder you work, the better it looks. And man does it look great! Can't wait to see it done and in clear. It has the look!
Love the patina look. Great job on the sanding. It's looking really nice. Up here we're in day 1 of a 3-day snow event. It's not that cold so we're getting heavy snow. The hardest to shovel. Supposed to get about a foot of snow before the storm moves on Friday night. Be safe and stay well.
The green paint looks nice. Put a bit of linseed oil on it or clear it for the shine its going to look so cool. Do you have the missing chrome for the old girl? It would finish the outside and complete the image of a survivor. I know the old red primer is a pain but it looks like it protected the old paint pretty well. What trim level is the car I'm just curious? Nice work
Thanks, I totally agree I'm glad the owner primed it. I have the missing chrome, just need the clips for them to put on. The car is a 210. Thanks so much for watching!
Superb work Cody! Don't clearcoat it though as it will be a headache later on when it starts peeling!! If it was my car, then I would blend some paint in on the sides in the worst bits and leave the top parts alone.
She's looking cherry Cody! I'm still working on the front suspension on the Pontiac. Still debating whether to keep the patina or paint it back to the original color Harbor Blue
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! And I need to rebuild my front end too! Feel free to email me a pic of your car and I'll share it with the channel if you want. My email is rogerscody022@gmail.com
A sanding block will help your fingers. Hope you eventually paint it. Not a patina fan. Body looks straight, without bondo, and only a few small rust holes that would be easy to patch. Why not?
Thank you! Yeah I need to use one haha and I do plan on eventually painting when I get up the extra money to fix the rust spots and get some paint, meanwhile just trying to revive the original cause I'm cheap hahahaha thanks for watching!
Do you have the rest of the chrome trim or the car? It would be a nice touch. It's a nice car.. You sure have it running good from when it first started.
Excellent video Cody :) also have done one vechile on Wet Sanding buy hand block size 4×4 in 2 by 4 thick ness took me 6 months to get orgnail color had house paint on not vechile also person did roller on and tell was worse one ever did ! But nice shining with new paint job plus clear coat too ! Also 400 grit paper work too Cody for wet sand too sometimes got smack on work clothes to clean too paper up like teacher do to black board's with chalk Lol!
Ya man, she looks good. I generally hate and I mean can't stand Patina... I think it's a fad for the most part but this girl... I like it. That shade of Green metallic and the "Patina" with it? Ya this will look tough after the clear coat and clear it with a few coats of clear to protect this one. You going to keep the six in this one and maybe put the 350 in the other tri five you've got? Be cool to see what you do with the Pontiac down the road as well. Be nice to see you put a 455 wide block Pontiac in it with some Butler Performance heads and ported intake under an induction style low profile hood [just ideas... I Love that you have a Pontiac].
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! I have a basically stock 350 going in my 57 4dr hardtop, and I have another 350 I want to soup up for my 57 2dr hardtop. Got it at 12, saved up from working odd jobs and scraping cans lol. Paid $750 and it has been my personal favorite car. I hope you see my comment! I think this will go much faster for you...vinegar! Rub the primer and rust right off! Hard to see you struggling, I hollered at my monitor but you couldn't hear me! Ha!!! See ya Cody!
Hey man! I got a tip for you. Get a few gallons of white vinegar, soak a bunch of rags in it, put it on the car wrap it in plastic, (garbage bags) overnight and the rust will wipe right off! Seriously!! Try it out, let me know how it works for you. Soak nuts bolts, anything rusty and soak overnight! Wrap bumpers, I think you get the idea!
