I bought a Goerend built trans from Dave in 2009. We installed it and I mmediately had an overheating issue. Dave was amazing with the troubleshooting. We first changed out the temp sensor. Next he sent me a valve body and offered to pay to have it replaced. I did it myself. That didn't fix it. He then sent me a custom wiring harness that I believe had a resistor in it to fool the computer to think it wasn't hot. That fixed the shifting issue, but we both knew something was up. He then called me and said he was sending another trans with a more stock like torque converter, and he paid everything.. shipping both ways and installation. So now 15 years later she's in the shop here in Texas at James Transmission Technology in Midlothian. Getting a refresh. James advertises in TDR but i found him by contacting Goerend who pointed me there. James is super knowledgeable about Goerend and I'm thrilled to have a guru doing the work. I always wanted to know from Dave what he thought the cause was of the initial overheating. I never found out.
    Great video. I learned alot.

Man what an AMAZING video! I am new to this channel and you sir have a subscriber. Dave is exactly what this country is missing in this generation. A true master of his craft, and the best part is he freely shares all of his knowledge. He cares more about people having the right info than how much he can make off a person. I could listen to him talk about the 48re all day. Thank you for the video, and thank you Dave for sharing your craft. I bought my built 48 from Firepunk and it's a great tranny, but when it gets tired I will be going for it myself. I have learned so much over the years from the great people in this industry. Thank you once again, and I will be sure to tune in to more of your stuff.

I’ve always had good luck with Transco Toan go shift cats I run Amsoil tranny fluid in my five 1891.5 dodge and with the shift kit I’ve got over 230 240,000 miles since that was last rebuilt and it’s still working good but go rend. He’s good there’s no question about it. This is six in a row.Jim from Kennerdell, Pennsylvania

Great content and fantastic guest! Can you get the guest that Lenny Reed from DDP had on his video...his an expert on OEMs.
I know Dave was a leader in his field, but dang that man is a wealth of knowledge. Learned so much about how transmissions work, what works/doesn't work and the why behind it. The guys at Revmax are good....but the knowledge that Dave has is truly amazing. Awesome podcast Patrick. Love the content

That was really interesting. I just got my transmission built by Reb Brown at Brown's Diesel with Goerend parts. Top notch stuff.

Prepare yourself, this is a long comment...
Man I love the 5.9 Cummins, I used to be a huge fan of the 7.3 I had one for a year to work out of, but I had a friend give me an old 05 ram 5.9 400k mile 2wd for work I did for him and I realized you don't need a 7.3 and can get at times 2 times (twice) the mpg, less complex, even the 46/47/48re is simplistic enough to do for a home gamer, I've biult 4 of these transmissions and my first one is approaching 320k I have to ask the guy that bought it but I believe he is at a little over 730k on it now ( same factory motor) though it does have low oil pressure at idle now.
I'm interested how much longer it can go because I've added clutches to the max on his and my 4x4 I have now->
    Triple disk DPC converter
    8clutches forward
    5clutches direct
    11clutches o/d
    6 clutches o/d brake
    Case saver
    Sonnax high capacity inputshaft
    300m maraging billet steel intermediate
Sonax 4x4 larger output shaft/input spool
    Rollerizing planets
    Sonnax rear drum support
    New drums
Billet 3/16 wider red eagle front band,
red eagle rear band clutch material,
All red eagle power pack with addition of one extra in the forward drums on top of the power packs
Increased line pressure all forward gears.
(I will pull out the throttle between shifts a little) though I biuld the valve body to shift firm tight.
Also I run a half bottle of rislone additive to help the planets and rear support to last. Also I feel like with the clearances in new bushing, it is loose enough to support a thicker fluid to help support the shafts and drums a little bit better, and with the friction modifier I feel like it adds longevity to the entire system without too much, if any, cold weather complaints from the valve body timing due to a thicker fluid.
I feel like when you go for serious power, you run more clearance and thicker oil, but so many overlook upgrading the transmission FLUID.
i also feel like the oil has more ability to wet out the clutches more eavenly before it's slings out the drum.
I also try to alleviate any excessive line pressure loss by use of all
o'ring servose and rear anti flip servo w/ o'ringed shaft as well.
    Tight clearances.
Tight end play to help keep the 5th direct on the hub. And yeah, just really shocked how nice this setup shifts. And for me, I don't do repeated launches it's a one and done, but even still I feel like there is too much miss information when it comes to the thinner clutches. Too many guys that daily there rigs need to understand where the thinner plates excel and that is in a properly set-up transmission for it.
I don't intend to run over 650hp with my truck. I'm running 19.4:1 compression ( 6.7crank/decked wide bowl pistons), on brand new Big Bang Injection towing injectors, a 1400rpm stall dpc triple, With a custom taylored valve body and a ton of other items to help efficiency and longevity.
With this setup I am expecting to see north of 600k miles on it given the life of the clutches survive this long keeping tune setting on efficiency, but closer to 350-400k+ with how I drive if I stick to the 5th or 6th switch setting. This is all considering the milage was was able to achieve with stock clutches, but now using red eagle frictions throughout and fluid modifier, 10an lines external filter on the output, deleting the heat exchanger. And bigger secondary cooler in the rear, I feel like I can/should be able to expect much more longevity from this transmission with a lighter and smaller foot print than an Allison but with (hopefully) surpassing Alison like durability. I also like to mention that adding the friction modifier additive should help the rear intermediate selective ring to last longer as well but probablt just wishful thinking, I do know with all the modifications I do to my transmissions the clearances will nolonger be a cause of failure in a normal application. As the only real item that wears the fastest is the case and that intermediate shaft selective sleave. That sleave I have witnessed wear to the thickness of two thrusts. The thrusts are typically not a cause of failure even being worn into the copper. Infact your could run the thrusts north of 200k and reuse them is you wanted to be cheap. But the biggest clearance influencers are the intermediate sleave o/d bearing into case wear and clutches and steels. As long as the case and intermediate shaft sleave selective stays intact, and the valve body stays consistent your transmission will serve you a very long time... The same with your Cummins, the injectors and oil "in relation to the valve body and trans fluid " is the life of the engine. My friend sold me his Cummins because he felt 400k and it was just time to sell with the lope and wiring, it was tired, never did he think it would runso smooth and beautifully with a new set of perfectly engineered injectors... Infact he didn't believe me till I spent the big bucks, and in doing so, It influenced him to buy big bang Injection, towing injectors, on top of a million mile warrantied Fass fuel system for his new truck...

You should do a show on tuning the 2022s. They changed something in the ECU and noone has gotten into it . Would be great to hear from a tuning company on if the newer truck will able to be reflashed.

Best podcast guest ever. Proud to say I have a Goerend DK 1900-2200 stall in my 650HP Duramax. Danville 68mm. Pushing through the brakes at 10 psi should I stall higher? K?

You know I should start a tube channel just for answers to questions. That folks have im sure I likely have or can give an intellectual answer to almost anyone's question on life trucks cars engines custom builds deisels transmissions. Many other things I seem to retain most of all I read and or see it actually gets frustrating that I have so much retention it is old school as well as new stuff but not technical or difficult to grasp. There's lots of easy things I don't do well always overthinking everything.
