The piece is called "On a Hymnsong of Philip Bliss" by David Holsinger. Played it in The Virginia Wind Symphony. Always did like that Cadets all Holsinger show in 1993.
I love how Gino throws his hat off mid-bar at the beginning of Rocky Point. :) This is probably the best quality vid on youtube of Cadets' warmup....no substitute for the real thing of course..but it'll tide me over til tour. can't wait to have my face melted :)
Yes, that is "It is Well With My Soul". The tune is titled "Ville Du Havre" and was written by Philip P. Bliss. Traditional Christian hymns frequently have a name for the just the tune. This is a beautiful arrangement.
My Gosh... I marched Fever, and the song that the Cadets are playing from 1:00 - 2:52 was our Corps Song, "Hymnsong" by Philip Bliss. Absolutely amazing job they did of it.
i love how when the soloists march back to their spot they sort of just melt into the line, put their horn up and you can no longer see which one solo'd. its cool. 57=awesome...when they put their horns down.
lol that was just awesome...at the end I was like ..."why is he still conducting....then I hear the trumpets....lol" I think warm-ups are just plainly amazing. right?
Im not a fan of George Hopkins or his show themes but I cant deny the Cadets of their awesome talent all around. Their guard, percussion and especially brass are excellently balanced and have great technique!
I don't have a problem calling them trumpets and tubas because that's what they are. But I am disappointed that most corps have abandoned the G bugle, which is known for it's bright and urgent. sound. That edge is what made drum corps sound like drum corps, not to take anything away from the amazing talent and musicianship of today's corps members who are better than I ever was.
Not being able to get to Endicott to see the drum corp is a real bummer. But not as much as having to go to Beverly because Manning Bowl in Lynn is no more. Garfield (I mean Cadets of B.C.) never sounded so sweet.
They're tubas. Period. Actually, up until a couple of years ago, most corps' used 10 tubas (the relative Bb horn) because the average hornline had 64 members. Nowadays, corps' use 72 members in their hornlines. The Cadets are one of the few corps' out there that used 64 horns in 2006, partly because the idea behind the show continued off of the 2005 idea, which used 64 horns. When you're the Cadets, you don't need 14 tubas.
Naaaaaah, the solo "saprano" is playing an old Christian hymm: "It is Well With my Soul." Sorry, old school. I can't say Tuba, trumpet, and such! It's just wrong.
Thanks for preserving this -
a 2006 tuba alum

My home town where I was in the high school marching band, '79--'81.

That was amazing.
Trust me, seeing these guys live is even better.

Two of my favorite songs "On a Hymnsong of Phillip Bliss" and "Rocky Point Holiday" Good stuff!

i remember competing in dci..i was in 2nd division..my two favorite corps were the cadets and the blue devils...back in 92-95
they were amazing......
With a sound as good as that for 06 Im surprised they even had a bunny and a singer in the show, I died on the inside. Where have my Cadets gone!!??
we played something just like this for state mpa....1st trumpet part was fun :)
I love 'em. Elegent yet powerful but poised; disciplined.
That was the best arrangement of "It is well with my soul" I've heard!
They do quite well with ten, thank you!

Very good sound !!!
hey zoom - not to worry - it's greatly appreciated!

I love the very end at 3:36 when they're like "oh hey let's play this little diddy"
That was from their show in 2005. I think it was during the Liquid movement.
Best hornline in DCI.
wow @ the mellophone runs @ 3:26! and also the amazing sound @ 0:35 to 0:50
So much to say in the first
11 seconds till liquid:) and 87/03 ending
rocky point holiday and the "golden section". That is what I'm talking about!
Hymnsong of Philip Bliss, actually.
we have 8 and 17 all together :P
Yes it is. 10?! MY current marching band has 2 and they only really want 7.
Hear hear! Well spoken. It does just seem wrong, and certainly sounds wrong to the ear to call any horn in a corp a trumpet or tuba. Old guys rule!
@davebenham1 Because ya feel it man!!! LOL It brings back such memories for me... The Lot work is the official PUMP for Corps members!!!

3 people have no soul that clicked dislike
Good lord that is a LOT of tubas.
HOlY SHIT that was intense
im definitely going to more horn line lot stuff this next season, i love the song they play at 1:00, would somebody tell me what it is?
what kind of mouthpieces do their mellos play on?
I'm....prreeeetttyyyy sure they're tubas now
:39 classic knee bend, lean back, "DAYUM!" move
but i'd prolly say cadets for more chills
Yup, I'm a jackass for not paying close enough attention. That's a completely warranted insult. I mean, you could've been immature about it.
lol why does the director at 2:57 throw his hat off?
Seconded.
Are you sure the contras didn't blow it off?..lol
this is hot
