That is like, the best life a steam locomotive could ever have. Years of hard work, followed by a graceful retirement. Without having to rust away in a siding or be forgotten in a shed.
at least he made it to cgi unlike Murdoch, Aurthor, Fergus, Freddy, d261, old slow coach, duke, smudger, colin, Molly, hank, BoCo, neville, dennis, splatter, doge. do I need to continue?
Did people seriously think he was a freelance design? Every engine has a basis. Maybe except Theo, though I think he's Fergus's basis with heavy modifications.
A breakdown crane that was also a Steam engine was caught my eye about Harvey. I loved his debut episode as it had a good moral and seeing how Harvey would operate was just so cool to see.
I think this explains how awesome Harvey the crane engine actually is I didn't know that the engine in real life was converted to burn oil during some point during his working life. it would have been a very interesting episode about Harvey as i think it was never said what kind of fuel was burnt in his fire box during his time in the show
Great video. This engine has always interested me but I never knew about its history. I think a video about the history of Boco's basis could be fun as the real engine itself had many running issues and the Name Boco comes from the real engines "Co-Bo" wheel arrangement. (At the start I thought it was heading for a VPN sponsorship XD)
Trainboy now: "Some people track your data, however I promise not to. Not just because it's creepy and wrong, but more since that it would require learning to code... and I'm tired." Trainboy in the future: "Hey guys, I learnt how to code!"
Stanley the great Watertown one is a industrial tank like billy or pug Harvey is also in the industrial tank family random fact lady somehow fits into this as well one of her basis's is just that and she fits the profile just enough to be classified for individual use molly I'm not sure but I think she's based off of a k2 or a similar design of the k2 class.
So proud of my stokie boy Harvey, him and Stafford make me proud to be from stoke-on-trent, and train boy if you ever come up here for a look please shout up as we have a few heritage lines and interesting rail experiences in the area that people don't know about
Thank you TrainBoy for making this video I always thought the base was scrapped but thanks for this video I learned that no it wasn’t actually scratch that the real life bases for Harvey is still going around I made a review of his wooden railway toy a while back with one of my friends and then I learn a lot about his real life basis
I saw Dubsy at the Foxfield in 2015. I need to go back there when they're running the freight down the very steep incline they have out of the freight yard at the bottom of the hill. Doxford & Sons (shipbuilders) in Sunderland actually had several other crane tanks, albeit Robert Stephenson & Hawthorn built ones, as well as an 0-4-0ST Peckett and all named after local areas of the city, to help in operations until the 70s when shipbuilding started to wind down. It's amazing to see photos of the crane tanks being dwarfed by the scaffolding and whatever needed for the building of ships.
As a self proclaimed: "Average new characters enjoyer", I think one of the best features is meeting new friends along the way, and seeing their unique designs. Eventually wanting to see the basis of the characters in real life.
That pretty cool man I was never sure as a kid what Thomas engines were based on real stuff or not until I saw photos of this engine IRL and I was hooked btw I love the new channel icon I can see thomes sitting on siding like how unding-y-fried as gordon puffs past like its dignified you simpleton lmao
Harvey is an often overlooked character but what is there not to love about him?! I always liked Harvey. Not a childhood favorite but so hard for me to ignore. I've heard that there are steam powered crane engine's similar to Harvey that have been shipped to Australia. But those were 0-6-0Ts.
Great video as always. I have a suggestion for basis, well 2 actually. 1, Daisy since she a bachmann model soon including the fact of bocos faces were shared. 2, locations. On sodor and their real basis like the Corris railway was the mid sodor railway and tal y llyn was skarloey
There were quite a few steam loco/crane combos built for industrial use. There's another example in the Scottish Railway Museum on the Boness and Kinneil Railway.
I had always thought Harvey wasn't a real engine, cause I thought the idea of a crane engine seemed silly. Boy am I glad I was wrong, cause this is amazing and I want to go see the engine for myself.
Best thing is Dübsy’s not the only crane engine in existence. There’s crane locomotives in certain railways in Great Britain, Scotland, and even parts of Australia.
What I liked about Harvey is while he's sort of set up to be a character that the other engines rely on, they remembered there are times he needs help as well and the others could provide it for him. I felt so bad for him in the episode he feels a bit TOO 'unique' and it comes off that he thinks people see him as a spectacle.
Its really surprising that this locomotive wasn't more common, especially after br was created, having these around likely could have solves alot of railway problems over the years
TrainBoy is probably the only person I would trust to steal my data. Might actually be able to use my oddly specific search history regarding American steam engines for once XD
I volunteer at the Foxfield where she runs and I have worked on her tons of times and it is illegal there to mention the Harvey and it’s not Dooooobs or Dooooobsy we never call her that Ever it’s Dubs with a U and she has been n traffic before 2020 2017 2018 she came back I believe she also worke at Shelton iron and steel all Her life and Never re railed locos because she can’t lift that much from what I gather she has re railed only one Iron ore tipper in her life and that’s it
So many steam engines are bought for preservation but the money never comes and they just rust away until they can't be fixed. Glad to hear this one is fine
Why don't you do a bases series on your channel like what you have done here with Harvey and it will be awesome and could you do one on derick he is a class 17 diesel loco
I loved Michael Angelis' Original Voice for Harvey at first (When it was high pitched) but later on when Michael changed it to deep I really hated the second voice...
Have u ever thought of making the eyes move for your large scale models they look like they could be from the show exactly if u get more perhaps u could remake the actual show
That is like, the best life a steam locomotive could ever have. Years of hard work, followed by a graceful retirement. Without having to rust away in a siding or be forgotten in a shed.
Harvey is severally underrated and underused

@@calebc.2290 yea your correct but I believe that they would be heavily underused as well like the characters like the narrow gauge railway
True
yeah that can be said for a lot of others besides him

Everyone- Wow Harvey is so cool! Too bad he's not Real.
Dubsy- *Allow me to introduce myself.*
Allow us to introduce ourselves (trumpets start)
I know hes real but the unexperience thomas fan said all the steam engines are the same
Did people seriously think he was a freelance design?

@@RoseSupreme Actually Theo Is Also Based Off Of A Railway Traction Engine Not The Blue Circle But Another Engine Named Sir Vincent
@@jamestheredenginefan5268 No, he's a mash up of several engines.

The Dübs crane tank is indeed a very interesting engine, as a whole I find ‘crane tanks’ to be very interesting machines.
Its actually impressive how this is real and still is used.
I thought it was fake but now that I think about it, fake things showed up only recently.
I'm still flabbergasted that there's a real steam locomotive with a crane on it
Nice! Thanks of you to do this video of Harvey's basis. His class is one of the most uniques engines out there.
Harvey is a great TV Series character and I refuse to hear other arguments.
Harvey is one of my favorite Thomas characters I’ve been waiting for this

I like Harvey alot as a kid, and was super happy when I got his trackmaster model

This was awesome! I love it. Can't wait for Duncan! Also Harvey is illegally un used. He needs to come back
I’m thinking you can talk about molly and her real life basis.
Perhaps even Stanley?

Thanks for not being Facebook, trainboy.
this is amazing, i wanted to see this!
I used to have Harvey in Wooden Railway and Take Along. But now I have him in Adventures.
My favourite Harvey moment
Samson:am I the strongest engine on Sodor?(he asked rhetorically)
Harvey:euhhhhhhhhh…
Dubsy is the weirdest and coolest steam locomotive.
Can you do more of this?

The pronunciation of staffordshire 😂
Harvey is so underrated as a character.
The fact that he used penguinZ0 at the end was the cherry on top. Great video dude!
the real engine definitely earned his coal

Trainboy you made me think a VPN sponsorship ad is coming XD, maybe if you sell some data to Mattel they will know what to do with the show, or not. 😂
Was there more than one steam crane? I'm pretty sure there is one in the bone'ss museum
Yes many and yes they look even less realistic than Harvey.
