    You've gained a new subscriber because this feels very similar to how my ADHD presents itself. The absolute worst for me is the paralysis. My head can be like "ok just do the task, do it now. Just get it done right now" and my body will be like "no,no don't stress we've got time, relax" and then before you know it, 2 days have gone by. Such a nightmare!

    • @BattlefieldADHD
      @BattlefieldADHD  Год назад +3

      thank you, yes the paralysis is also my biggest nightmare - also because there is very little to do about it. recently i try to go outdoors on order to not get pushed on the couch and keep myself at least physical active..that helps a bit. i should make a video about that soon :)

    I'm a retired software engineer with ADD. This turned out to be the ideal line of work because I found something I could really focus on, and just about everybody had ADD, ADHD, or Asperger's syndrome, so I was with my people. Things did get better with my problem and my son's problem later in life. ADD wasn't a known condition back in the day, so my teachers told my parents that "Bob is smart, but he's lazy." Nobody thought I could forget that much stuff. Ritalin didn't exist back then, but my son was diagnosed with ADHD and ended up taking it. Along with your coffee, consider using some NoDoz or something like it to bump your caffeine level. It might help.
    Here's my best happy ADHD story: Some time in high school, we were supposed to prepare a five minute talk to be presented in class. I forgot to do that, but my last name starts with a Z, so my report wasn't due until the second day. I forgot to prepare my talk again on the second day, but since my last name starts with a Z, my report was going to be the very last one. I didn't listen to the other talks, I just figured out a topic I could talk about, and sort of mentally composed my speech. I was the only one who got an A for my report because I had "memorized" my report so I didn't "need" to use note cards. Sometimes things just work out.

    • @linfrommdl
      @linfrommdl Год назад +3

      Thank you for sharing this story here. I have Inattentive ADHD and also had similar experiences with last minute presentations in high-school.
      I got curious about the caffeine and it’s effects on people with similar neurodivergence. When I don’t drink coffee, I underperform and the entire day feels just extremely dragging. When I drink just one cup of “coffee” (1/5 coffee and 4/5 milk) I am more productive but I have overwhelming and overreactive body symptoms such as excessive sweating, higher anxiety and my chest is tight. I’ve been experimenting with this since years and I still haven’t found any solution for this problem.

      thank you so much for sharing bob! I can totally relate with bomb ass improvised last minute presentations - it stuck so much in my head that even to this day im mostly improvising every speech/presentation. I consider this one of my "ADHD gifts" :)

      I'm always surprised that so many autistic and adhd people can enjoy working in IT.. I mean I get how coding can be interesting, but considering the need for stimming and the sensory sensitivity, how can spending 40h/week SITTING and looking at a screen can be enjoyable? sounds like torture to me.. doesn't it hurt their eyes?

    • @BobZed
      @BobZed 9 месяцев назад +4

      You're probably missing the point. If you have a really interesting puzzle to solve and you're getting into the process of solving it, everything else just fades into the background. It's not as good as a video game, but your brain kinda disregards the rest of the world while you're working on building mental castles.

    Well that looks a lot like my days, the random energy burst when I walk around and do household tasks are always unpredictable 😂 My new strategy for work in the home office with pretty flexible hours, is to immediately start working when I'm awake, most of the time even before breakfast. That kind of sets the tone for the day and I can more easily return to "work mode" when I take a break for breakfast, sport and such.
    Otherwise I only get work done when my brain is sufficiently stimulanted, with either stress do to an impending deadline, interest in the subject, general stress about the task, when I'm able to hype myself up enough for the task or meds. Meds are the easiest route without me needing to play sharade with my brain to be able to work 😂

    • @BattlefieldADHD
      @BattlefieldADHD  Год назад +4

      I totally get that! :) its the same for me but im really asking myself right now: Do I really want to live/work like this forever? You tell yourself that you will get it done the next day, but weeks pass by without you even realizing. I experience all these symptoms even though I am not diagnosed. I can't just go to the doctors bc I am still a minor and have a bad relationship with my parents. They would probably refuse to get me checked bc they don't understand adhd and what it is actually like, and they will still believe that I am lazy and making up excuses like they've always thought. Wow what a video. We're the same person lol nice to meet you... I have only figured out at 21 what has made my life so hard and this recognition has shown me I am not alone and has also allowed me to educate my family on how to handle me better to the point where they have been apologetic to how I have been handled at no fault of theirs. This is the first example which has perfectly described my day to day life, with the only thing staying consistent daily is my love for sport. The rest (and probably more important aspects of life) have eluded me at times leaving space for constant overthinking and anxiety to creep in. ADHD wasn't a widely understood condition through my childhood so I have always been in the eyes of teachers, parents etc that smart kid who is lazy and isn't living up to his potential, which I believed to be my fault leading to me not being kind to myself. Understanding our condition has changed my life and allows me to manage my crazy brain, this video more than any other has shown me I am not alone. You're an absolute legend Jérôme, thank you.

    Great video! Just came from the first one you put up. I was diagnosed with Bipolar Affective disorder at 15, but over time have been investigating the links between my condition and other pure forms of neurodivergence. It was only when my cousin Kaden told me (whom received his Autism diagnosis around 22) that Bipolar is a neurological condition by nature, and by proxy it is natural for me to experience and present neurodivergent traits. I had a bit of a revelationary moment then. I definitely have some of the traits, as there is a lot of crossover, and adolescents with Bipolar are more likely to have racing thoughts and rapid cycling. I am currently in a mixed state having just ascended out of low mood when I stopped my medication for 5 days when my mum was away for a week. I think females with Bipolar or Autism are worth bringing up their menstrual cycles in conjunction with their condition/diagnosis. I have PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome), which creates more apparent and tidal mood swings for sure (it is thought as many as 1 in 5 women have this). PCOS plays a part in my Bipolar, and the reason I have had to return to taking my meds again! *sigh* I hope one day I can feel "normal" in who I am, embrace my naturally more extroverted and vivacious personality and diagnosis as simply concurrent, not have to feel at odds with this rather neurotypical world and give it my bravest shot to break the mould and advocate for change, say in the education system, for future generations to come. Only 20% of moderate/severe neurodiverse individuals end up completing their University degree. This is often nothing to do with intelligence. They need an outlet to channel their creativity, and the infrastructure of higher education (less so in my BA/MA but BSc's for definite) is too focused on memory retention, which stunts innovative thoughts from ever fully flying into fruition. Ironic I chose to major in English when I'm such an inattentive reader. I prefer close-reading (analytical) and writing. During my postgrad I discovered the author who most spoke to me. Her name is Ann Quin. Coming back to your content, I really admire how pragmatically and cohesive you put your content out, even if if your head it might all be word salad (as mine often is in disjunct thoughts). It shows resilience and a desire to carry on. Antonia x

    You obviously have ADHD which at least gives you a lot of energy. I'm a woman with ADD, that is, no hyperactivity. I guess I could say I have ADHD, but the H would stand for HYPOactivity. I take medication because my starter switch, my ON/GO/POWER function is missing. There are days I can't get off the couch until my medication kicks in. Then I get up and start moving. I'll make a long "To Do" list, and then ignore it. I rarely get anywhere on time. I've lost jobs, money, relationships, a marriage, opportunities, and more. ADD is no joke. I have many hobbies and interests, but jump from one thing to another. I'd do a video, but I'm too embarrassed over the mess in every room in my house. I've been trying to get downsize and get organized for over 20 years. Despite my problems, I did manage to get a college degree and raise two amazing (non ADD) daughters. I just wish people could know how hard I'm trying when it looks like I'm lazy or don't care. I do care and try so hard to do what others can easily do.

    Haha shit this is so spot on. And also feels really terrible, even when we can laughe at ourseves at the same time one feels that what one does is almost impossible for oneself to influence and control 😭 which is so difficult.
    Every other video in my RUclips feed is about that if one only has enough willpower one can accomplish anything. And everyday I feel like I fail because I cannot control my smallest little behaviors. I have read every damn self help book and tried for so long to create an environment that pushes the behaviors I want. But still I feel so powerless.
    It’s also funny that I found this video now because I had a really difficult week symptom-wise and yesterday I was thinking “I should have hidden a camera in my apartment this week to show ppl how ridiculous these days of my life can be” like when I simply don’t manage to leave the house for a full day because every time I take something out I misplace it. These issues are exactly what i have with some more prominent. I paid attention to myself and learned life hacks to stop and negate alot of these problems wich than makes mee seem more normal and that makes everyones expectations very high and dealing with my issues seem even more impossible to the point that i have to stop everything, shove away my feelings and will just to do every single task till it is done. Consequenses are feeling like a slave to everything, cant let anything go and feeling depressed. Sometimes being different is not so bad, it has its upsides just to be who you are!

    ADHD is funny that way, it impairs you because you forget about stuff, but when you do remember last minute, you get into crisis mode and tackle the task better than people who prepared for days. Like I forgot to study for the test, but it was a small one so I had studied on the 10 minute break, trying to memorize as much as I can and ending up with B+... Or I was preparing for presentation for a final high school exam which I was certain was supposed to be in two days, but it was the next day in the morning, I found out last minute! Dad drove me to school, I was supposed to be second in line, was late, but fortunately so were the teachers so I had like 20 minute window to read the script I wrote the night before. I got 17/20 mark - at least one point deduction must have been because I was supposed to bring some materials I ended up forgetting at home, so... :D

    Muss mich selbst immer daran erinnern, dass ich *nicht* weniger wert bin, nur weil ich an einem tag nur im gym war und sonst nichts gemacht hab haha.
    Ein paar tipps, die dir eventuell betreffend den ADHS medikamenten helfen könnten, falls du die noch nimmst (source: habe alle on und off für mein unaufmerksames ADHS bzw ADS probiert seit ich 18 bin, bin jetzt 23):
    - mit kleinen dosen ist das "down", also wenn die medikamente aufhören zu wirken, viel weniger heftig (nehme nur noch 2.5mg-5mg ritalin auf einmal).
    - protein hilft dem gehirn dopamin zu bilden. Genügend protein kann auch dabei helfen, dass man nicht so schnell eine toleranz für die medikamente aufbaut und die dosis erhöhen muss.
    - genügend essen, wasser und schlaf ist extrem wichtig für die reduzierung der ADHS symptome, aber auch damit die medikamente richtig wirken.
    Du weisst das eventuell schon alles, aber dachte, es könnte dir von nutzen sein! :)
    Viel glück auf deinem weg 🍀

    I understand that caffeine works differently for people with ADHD. Instead of waking you up, it calms you down a bit. However, it can be abused like any other substance, and depending on whether you chain-drink sodas or coffee, your health can be at risk (my father was a chronic coca-cola drinker, which Sis I suspected when we got diagnosed with ADHD ourselves, and he lost his life to NASH).
    Still, I think coffee would be preferable to soda with caffeine, since soda has a lot more sugar compared to black coffee (even though I hate both as well as tea). So everything in moderation.

    Hi, got my diagnosis not long ago. Still struggling to not to feel like ADHD is just normal human existence and hyper focus on everyones struggles. Um, anyone else feels this way? How did you come to realise that this is different from other peoples experience? I get too emotional on daily basis, struggle with raising thoughts, have creative outbursts and other stuff, but feel like its half the populations realities. Please share ur thoughts or insights on this! Thank you

    • @BattlefieldADHD

      hey rasa, most of the adhd symptoms can also be found in people without adhd, that is what it makes so hard to diagnose and it also feels like everyone struggles with the same issues. its the combination and the intensity of the symptoms what differences us from neurotypical brains. also when you have adhd, its much likely that a lot of your friends also have adhd bc we tend to surround us with people that are like us - so for me personally it feels like adhd is around 30% of the population :)

It's so hard to get out of bed.., I stay in bed until the very last minute before I am obligated to get up.. and then it takes me hours before I can start really functioning.. (but, I think I am also autistic so it's not the same as just adhd)
    Maybe it's not a very good idea to work from home if you have adhd, no? because it's so easy to be distracted and do anything else than work since no one is watching..
    Hearing your accent I suppose you are german? Maybe it's a cliché but I imagine it must be specially impairing to have adhd in Germany because being ponctual is seen as very important, no?

    I'm 32 and I just started a daily routine for my ADHD.
    I don't use an alarm because they scare me. Besides, my biological clock tends to wake me up at around 7:00 - 7:30am
    I drink exactly 1 cup of coffee and no more. Otherwise I'll be running like I'm wanted for murder.
    Shower, eat breakfast. Just a a bowl of fruit and yogurt, at least 200 calories. Brush teeth, take meds. 20 pushups
    Leave for work 9:00am, arrive and clock in at the warehouse at 9:30-ish. A wizard is never late, Frodo Baggins. Nor is he early, he arrives EXACTLY when he means to!
    official 15 minute break at 12:00, but I have to run and hide from the constant loud noises every hour for 10 minutes. Of course the warehouse is located 10 feet away from an Airforce base... Don't look at the clock, Don't look at the clock, Don't look at the clock, Don't look at the clock, Don't look at the clock, You're looking at the clock, it's literally 12:01. Time has not moved. Finally Clock out at 2:30pm, drive home. try to avoid the temptation of grabbing a hamburger on the way home. You lost 50 pounds, you don't need to go back to... aaaaaaand he's going to Jack in the Box. What the F, dude! You're a disgrace! This is why you can't get under 180 pounds!
    Arrive back home at 3:00pm, take a 1 hour nap, oh wait, you forgot to do 20 more pushups!
    get up at 4:00pm, help mom make dinner and eat at 5:00. Clean the kitchen, do the dishes. Man, it sure is nice having a parent who loves me and will cook me dinner! ^_^
    Go back to your computer and start your second job making 3D models and hosting meetings for the 3D Art team. Check progress, give critique, assign new tasks.
    time to work on your portfolio. Wait, didn't you say you'd help the director review more 3D Artists on the jobs board? Oh, hell with it, you've got to work on your portfolio.
    Why aren't you working on your portfolio??? It's literally your favorite thing! and You're sitting here watching RUclips and typing comments--
    WAIT, WHAT TIME IS IT??? IT'S 10:00PM??? WHY CAN'T TIME MOVE THIS FAST WHEN I'M AT MY SHITTY JOB AT AMAZON?!
    I just realized I forgot to take my 2nd dose of meds before 2:00. Welp, too late, now! I guess I'll add that pill to the "Emergency stash" in case the pharmacy decides to put my script on backorder for a whole month, AGAIN.
    Realize you're being too dramatic. Let's close everything, listen to some ASMR or play a game till 12:00am. Ahh, this is nice. Life is good!
    Go to bed. Take a magnesium to get better sleep because melatonin makes my head feel thick.
    'Ello, Brian, welcome to.... P I L L O W L A N D...." Zzzzzzz....
    Repeat.
