    As a long time dirt user, welcome to the Dirt League!
    Dirt also works for nerd poling up places, blocking doorways during missions and is super fast to duplicate. I typically carry 3 dirt blocks with me at all times - can also craft cobblestone on the run to save inventory space and get a jump on building needs.
    Dirt. It's the new thing.

  • @jaxsonbateman

    Did my own test, and the one caveat to all this is that demos will indeed destroy dirt if you hit their explosion, so depending on how much you lean on a dirt strategy you'd have to be super duper extra careful not to set off demos.
    Otherwise, damn, this is such a game changer. I just started an insane+deathless run, and one of my strategies has been to build small zombie killing areas outside POIs so I can use the strongest weapon in the game (architecture) - but now I'm thinking I can incorporate a dropper design + dirt build so even if I get 10 zeds piling out of a building I don't have to worry about getting overrun.
    Edit: just made it in testing and it works a treat. Probably don't need to bother with such an elaborate design until T2, or maybe even T3, but it's good to have in the pocket. I'll see if I can share a screenie somewhere.

    • @AndrewEddie
      @AndrewEddie Месяц назад +1

      Add to that, if an explosion causes a vertical hole, then they will try to dig themselves out (usually unsuccessfully).

    Dirty deeds done dirt cheap. I started experimenting with it 3-4 weeks ago. Found that zombies would attack it much less then regular blocks. My favorite for strength is asphalt (1500 hp) , and topsoil for filling. Yes, i filled in a PoI with topsoil , and made a nice base atop of that. Moat around it too. Weakness is cop and demolition explosions.
    I guess TFP could "fix" it by duplicating the craftable dirt/ground like blocks so they look the same, but act like regular player placed blocks. Or , most likely, just make them uncraftable.

  • @jrodrichard

    So many applications... this blows my mind. For my current play through, base with attached horde bases. Of course protect your pillars, but two blocks around your fancy poi base and they won't break through that fancy poi you want to keep intact. This is crazy. Literally no mats, your initial shovel, and one dirt block and you could have your first horde base 😮

  • @Wanderinpaladin
    @Wanderinpaladin Месяц назад +9

    The reason this works is because you are building "up". If you build a mine shaft with a defensive wall of terrain, the zombies will get to the wall and go into Dig mode through the wall. The only thing you have to worry about is if you build it too long, on horde night it will count as a spawn point, dirt, gravel, topsoil, or anything else you can create in a cement mixer. This was a building method in A20 in the Rebirth mod because he's got giant zombies that start appearing, after level 30, that are just walking explosions (literally every step is like a demo explosion) but to prevent those zombies from getting stuck in holes they create for themselves he made all the terrain blocks immune.

My biggest problem is not being able to have access to dev tools and editing, as I’m on console. So building high and big without being able to fly is becoming difficult. Plus no one shot rock tool. They actually can target terrain blocks. I made a mod that removes their ability to target blocks or go into destroy area, sometimes they will still randomly smack a block still. If the player is under ground they will also go straight to digging to try to reach the player, even though they shouldnt be able to target blocks at all. There is some hard-coded stuff at work.
    I suspect if you gave them no other option to reach you (such as standing on a dirt covered pillar) they would target the blocks then, however since they have a path it takes preference over trying to break terrain.

    A slight variation of this method is to create your own high density forest in say a 30 X 30 grid. Then build random short length walls three blocks high between the trees in a maze like pattern. You do need Parkour 2or3 to be able to jump over the walls. That way you can run around and hide behind the trees and walls, sniping off the zoms 1by 1.

    I find it hilarious TFP have tried so hard to squash the meta that they've ended up making a dirt meta. Truly we have come full circle

    now a good question would be seeing if this works kind of like the old "to world bottom droppers" we never really built a pathway for zombies to escape those. so if you could make your base/convert poi and dig a mote around it with the dropper and path out for them, and not build up only dig would that work the same

    • @Towkn
      @Towkn Месяц назад

      tested it out myself, other then one sometimes getting stuck on the wedge to help push them over now and then it does work just building a pit and mote. not sure the minimum width the mote has to be, i made mine 5 wide and 8 deep, when they would go into destroy area they just ran back up the path i made

    This might totally negate screamers, too! Just work away in your Earth ship and let them run. Would they eventually time out and potentially drop loot bags?

    • @jaxsonbateman
      @jaxsonbateman Месяц назад

      In my most recent game I had a perpetual loop system (15 high base and a dropper path I could turn on when I didn't want to fight zeds), and at one point I took my headphones off and thus couldn't hear when screamers had been there for a while. Had a massive horde of zombies including screamers that had summoned screamers, but as far as I could tell there was no despawning; they all just hung around doing the loop.

    Anyone else thinking that they just didn´t figure out yet, why they don´t attack after falling from 12 or more blocks? And that this propably won´t last forever?

    Does that mean it will work as a zombie force field around a building you're hiding in?

    • @disconnectedsoul8250
      @disconnectedsoul8250 Месяц назад

      Probably not because zeds will still beat through blocks between you and them if the don’t have a viable path

    Couldn't they put in where they can hit any block above the level they're standing? Regardless if it's terrain? I'm not a modder or coder so I don't know.

  • @ConnorSinclairCavin
    @ConnorSinclairCavin Месяц назад

    Yeah, since player made terrains have the same code as world ones in most cases… i really don’t think this is even patchable hahaha. Not without a 100% rework of the entire pathing system

    So here's the question. If that works, then why do they burrow into a mountainside base vs coming down the planned path?

    • @bradrichardson67
      @bradrichardson67 Месяц назад +6

      that's the best possible path, thru the mountain. this has a different path but by using the dropper they just keep going round in circles

    Shouldn't dynamic mesh do the trick for render distance? Maybe try to up the range and turn off claim block only.
