I've been away for a while and i have come back with an exciting arrangement of the Dueling Piano Cutting Contest as performed in the original film "Scott Joplin" (1977) please excuse a wrong note i play towards the ending of Maple Leaf Rag haha

I love the facial expressions that Louis Chauvin and Scott Joplin give each other in the movie when it breaks into Maple Leaf Rag. And the fact that Joplin is played by Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian) and Eubie Blake himself is in it is something I still cannot fathom after watching it for the first time almost 4 years ago.

It’s primitive and basic. It’s not accurate to actual ragtime.
@@SQUAREHEADSAM1912 There are a lot of syncopated rhythms in this arrangement which is the main core of what ragtime is. So this, in fact, is actual ragtime music.
@@LouFlos indeed it is ragtime but I’m referring to melody and harmony as well as few others, but this isn’t true to the form. ragtime wasn’t honkey tonk, it was classically written, composers were usually classically trained etc. just listen to Rifkin’s performances of Joplin, it’s very professional. They’re agreed upon the community to be some of the most reliable depictions of rag. (Especially Joplin’s rags)
@@SQUAREHEADSAM1912 Ah, yes. I have his CD. But there is a sublime purity in the primitive side of ragtime as well. It's the mixture of classic and folk music that makes ragtime.

@@ianizer1 No it isnt. i listened Poet and Peasent Overture.Overture's a little short part is played by Scott Joplin's friend for a few seconds.Starts at 4:31

@@ianizer1 if there is no name to that specific part of the song then my guess is probably that it was just a small tiny improvisation or a short piano cue written for the film to fit the medley ragtime battle. But again, we probably may never know :’v

Did you play along with the original film so this is synchronized or did you just transcribe and hand play the midi to a metronome click?
I tried playing along with the film but it was extremely difficult. So I just played to a tempo that would be comfortable and just a tiny bit challenging enough for others to learn and play.

@@betserv.1187no haha:’v all my musical knowledge came from books and purely by listening to music intently. I am currently on my way to becoming an orchestral conductor which is why I haven’t been able to upload many videos for a while:’v I’ll get back to it next year for sure;)

i think it is a modified version of poet and peasand overture, but idk maybe it is just a part of the cutting contest.

Awesome! Id prefer it without the smoke/flames. It makes it harder to see what is being played
I knowww:’v this is like the 592849th comment about the issues with the visuals haha. I have learned from this annoying mistake and have fixed and improved the visuals for my videos after this particular one XD I’m thinking of re-uploading it to fix this problem but I’m not so sure :’v
