Is the NEW 2021 Hyundai Elantra a BETTER car than the Civic & Corolla?

  • The Elantra has been totally redesigned for 2021 and Hyundai is trying to not make any mistakes. The exterior of the Elantra now mimics the Sonata a little. There are many sharp angular lines to really give it some bold styling. Under the hood is a 2.0L inline-4 that is producing 147HP & mated to a CVT transmission. On the inside you will find a 10in digital display, wireless charging and wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto. Is the NEW 2021 Hyundai Elantra a BETTER car than the Civic & Corolla?

      Don’t worry, there’s always a trade off somewhere. It’s not the tech that’s important, it’s what’s underneath the hood. Kia and Hyundai know they can’t compete with Honda and Toyota in terms of quality and reliability so there going the tech and design route. Which is fine for most people because most people lease for 3 or 4 years. Don’t see a lot of 10+ years Hyundai and Kia on the road. At least not here in Canada. But lots of civics and Corolla.

    • @CDalonzo
      @CDalonzo 3 года назад +14

      @@cyrano661 I beg to differ, although this particular model has a CVT, which I have to say is a total zonk, the reliability on Hyundai and Kia has been pretty good over the years. I know tons of people who have old Hyundai’s and kias and they love them to this day and only do regular maintenance (oil changes, brakes, tires, etc.). I think the reliability ratings will go down for these cars that use these CVT transmissions. Me, personally I’d rather go for a car that you can get with a manual and learn how to use that than buying a CVT any day of the week.

    Just bought a 2023 Hyundai Elantra less than a week ago. Had 45 miles on the odometer. Still had the plastic on a lot of the components. The whole thing, with all the fees and fixin's and taxes and the whole shootin' match out the door for right at about $27k. And to be honest it's like waking up and still being in a dream every day. It's so comfortable, nice, and most of all, smooth. It's like piloting a shuttlecraft. Worth every goddamn cent. Just a fantastic, amazing, awesome all around car. Smooth and quick, and quiet, and comfortable, and to be honest. I truly believe it's the most beautiful car in the world...for under $30k. It just looks so beautful and sleek and fast. I got blue with black rims. I can't tell you how happy I am. Every day I wake up and I actually....until I get work up real good, I honestly think either the car was just in a dream or that somehow someone is going to come take it away form me because I'm not supposed to have something like this.

    Just bought a CPO 2018 SE there at the Fitz last month. Better in looks then the 2019/20 refresh and the ol 6-speed auto. Was gonna buy new but wasn't ready for a CVT yet. The 2021 is definetly an improvement, and those gunmetal wheels!

    Hyundai has done a nice job with this new Elantra. Normally, I'd say they will sell them like hotcakes. But, in this crossover crazed world, people don't see to want cars anymore. The fuel economy is awesome in this thing - it's almost like a hybrid. Great value for the dollar too. That should attract some buyers to it.

    Love the color & how black wheels work with it. Actually this is a similar base design to the KIA K5. This Dealership needs to talk to their Detail Guy(s) because they barely wiped over the outer surface of those wheels. Black (wheels) show EVERYTHING 3:42+ ...absolutely inexcusable for New Car Prep. I would tell him to get on it! 😖

    Raiti, love you man! It was because of you I started my own channel! You kept calling it a CVT and it's not. Hyundai calls the transmission an IVT (intelligent variable transmission). Works the same way, but the pulleys are replaced by chains so they are much more durable as opposed traditional CVTs.

    Great review Joe! I'm not hocking my '19 civic ex turbo for this elantra. For similar sticker price, I have much more power, manage 40mpg when not pushing the turbo. Power driver seat, sunroof, heated cloth seats, all the safety tech, and even a rear armrest. I am curious what the n line delivers, though. Keep up the good work!

      Not that I’ve seen .... was looking at a 2017 with 10,000 miles at a Hyundai dealer ... finally beat them down to $15,000 “out the door” .... even wrote them a check and was going to pick it up the next morning ..... got home and looked at their web site and it looked like I could get a new 2020 for only $3000 more .... went back and asked them about it and they said “yes, a little less actually” (both SE models) ... finally decided on a new SEL model for $3600 instead of $3000 more (out the door) than the used 2017 SE ... total $18,600 ‘out the door’ including 7% sales tax and $799 “dealer fee” and including license and registration ..... and WOW ...is it ever nice (wife’s car) ... I drive a 2018 Camry but the Elantra almost as nice and in some ways even nicer.
