Childhood, perhaps, represented through "chinese" aesthetic rules, in a most genius way! Besides novelties in technique and phrasing, the whole style foresees in a prophetic way what was to come in the european music and painting some decades later, i.e. late in xix and early in xx centuries. You are more than usual enthusiastic about this extraordinary Etude. Your inner power, flame and joy, can by no means be hidden !!! I can clearly realize, Mo Niemczuk, that this Etude has put his huge seal in your mind and heart in a permanent and seductive way !!! Thank you so much for these surprising firework, both in analysis and virtuosity !!! A miracle to be heard on a non-stop basis !!!

So helpful and so charming. You’ve helped me with at least five Chopin pieces that I deeply love but I otherwise may not have been able to play or interpret adequately. Thank you.

Watch you so joyful and enthusiatic about this etude made my day. I felt happy... it made made me laugh and made me surprised, it caused me something I can not explain - like a pure, good and positive energy. Yes, this is a really shocking etude, so many magical surprises even for today, right? Breaking the "rules" yet beeing that beautiful, it is truly a genius masterpiece. I'm also crazy about Chopin's music, it's impossible not to be. Well... this "episode" from the series "all Chopin's music" was more than special for me. I learned so much today, as always, and all I can say is that I am grateful to you for your videos, which I will keep watching whenever possible. With heartness, thank you Greg!!

Thank you for this! I'm teaching about Chopin - and this etude in particular - to a group of music appreciation students. They are elementary aged, but I believe they will definitely be able to pick out the birds, and the shocking quiet where there is supposed to be a loud climax. As a lifetime pianist and music lover, I learned a lot. from your video. Thank you!

Rs

    Great discussion Greg!
I always wondered why there was a single white key (f natural) at measure #66 in this etude, for the right hand.
He could have left it out and it would have been 100% black keys.
Perhaps it was a little joke Chopin was playing?
Musically, it makes perfect sense (Gb-->F natural).

How do you learn these peaces so quick to be able to do one a day. I don't think you already know all of these already or do you? Took me several months for each etude and I've only completed a little less than half of them.

Thank you! I've learned all Chopin's music , most of it during the past two years. Etudes I started earlier and I was gradually learning the most difficult ones in between other pieces. Now it's somehow easier for me but you know.... I'm practically working all days!! The last two years I'm practicing all days long...with a few days off and 1 week of Summer vacation....

Japan has more pentatonic scales than China, for example
    C, E, F, A, B . . .
    C, E, F, G, B . . .
    E, F, A, B, C . . .
    E, F, A, B, D . . .
